    My favorite and most versatile accessory is a floaty.
    It can work as a bite mount. It floats. It’s the lightest. It can almost be a tripod in a way. You can drop it and be more protected. The window of the floaty, fits into the sticky GoPro mounts and acts as a quick detach.
    NDs are sweet. Those magnetic mounts are magic for vloggers.
    Awesome tips David!

      Thanks Chris! I remember when the floaty was on the back of the camera, we always used to use it as a bite mount! Solid solution!

    I have several of those accessories, but I have to say my favorite is the snap mount because like you said it makes all my other mounts better. The ability to just remove the camera from one mount (or surface) to another in a matter of literally seconds is amazing. Highly recommend it.

    Great video David. I have 70% of this gear (100% 0f the basics) mostly because of your recommendations. The one thing I appreciate the most is the Snap Mounts. When you reviewed this product I started ordering it before your video ended. They are amazing! I use it for ALL of my driving videos because I can leave the suction mount on the windshield and without disturbing the suctions placement and angle, I can grab the Hero 9, do my thing, and return it to exactly the same position. Sometimes, I remove it just for security reasons. And for business videos, I can move the cameras between tripods effortlessly. Seriously, my video setups are so much faster thanks to Snap Mounts!

    One item you forgot to mention is a thumbscrew wrench . I prefer the ones that fit on the outside and on the inside of the screw on the other end of the wrench. Mount fit tolerances vary widely and there are places where the hi-torque screws can't be used, so wrenches to the rescue.

    You don't really need the pricey SNAP mount if you get the GoPro Magnetic Swivel Camera Clip. It is magnetic, and you can use a piece of flat metal for cellphone cases to put under your shirt as a chest mount. If you have the GoPro subscription you can buy it for not so much and it comes with a Hero 10 kit. The magnet is pretty good, i drove on a dirt road and it kept my camera on my car hood (i was driving relatively slowly, i would not try on a normal road with traffic). But that GP mount is great. I can also clip it on the edge of the car's sunroof. You can also clip it to the windshield's visors.

    • @DavidManningvlog
      @DavidManningvlog  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Magnetic Swivel clip mount is good, but not nearly as strong as Snap Mounts. The main reason I love Snap Mounts so much though is just that they make it so damn easy to swap between my different mounts. Like to go from the windshield mount to the Ulanzi and then over to the bite mount. Just for those three, the Snap Mounts is absolutely worth it!

    • @stefpix
      @stefpix 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DavidManningvlog yes you have a valid point. But if the needs are limited i think the magnetic clip is really great as a more budget friendly alternative. You could clamp a metal plate to a tabletop tripod like the Manfrotto pixi and ise the magnet of the clip or clamp it

    • @jasonshanker4456
      @jasonshanker4456 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I bought the Snap Mounts recently on David's recommendation and in spite of already having the magnetic mount and while I like both I have to say the Snap Mounts were well worth it. They're insanely strong and yet because of the design easy to disconnect/swap. What makes them so great imho is how easily you can switch between different mounts without ever worrying about stability or security. Example -- while snorkeling everyone in the family has a SnapMount on their snorkel mask which means instead of one person filming and thus being the only person NOT in the film, we can swap the camera easily among us all without even pausing the video. I've also had it mounted to the hood of my car at 70 mph with narry a movement. I tether it to the vehicle but it's totally unnecessary. Would never trust the magnetic clip mount in that condition. Both great but I've absolutely found benefit in the Snap Mounts!

    • @SNAPMounts
      @SNAPMounts 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jasonshanker4456 Thanks Jason! Yes our mount lets everyone be a part of the content capture! We have tested up to 110 mph for the car, but a tether is never a bad idea! Keep SNAPPING on!

    • @stefpix
      @stefpix 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jasonshanker4456 thanks for the tip. that is great about the strength. In the ocean, I would always tether the camera unless it is calm and clear waters where you can see the bottom. a simple leash made with a piece of thread is peace of mind

    • @DavidManningvlog
      @DavidManningvlog  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've used it on the outside of my van, but not while driving. If I'm going to get a shot like that, I switch to the Seasucker mount. Magnets are awesome with pull strength, but not shear strength. So the wind could actually slide your mount around on the metal of your car. The rubber mat for the Snap Mounts helps with things like that, but ultimately I would recommend switching to a suction cup for those shots👍

    Bitemount in the ocean, you can also secure it with a homemade lanyard around your neck, made with some nice bungee line, so if you accidentally get hit by a wave and lose the grip on your jaw, you have another layer of security to not lose the camera. You can pass it on to the mount below the screw. In the ocean, you may also need to ventilate with your mouth after you get kept underwater for a bit.

    • @DavidManningvlog
      @DavidManningvlog  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh, very clever!!! SnapMounts actually has a long lanyard that comes in the box. That could totally work for that!

    • @stefpix
      @stefpix 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DavidManningvlog i have used also the GoPro wrist mount, the velcro strap should be little longer to secure it on a thicker wetsuit. The velcro seems strong anyway. But still I made a short bungee wristband and passed it on the mount. I know too many people who lost GoPros in the ocean, You get hit by a wave, banged on a rock or aby a surfboard and you can be unlucky. I am in NY where you don't see the bottom, and the current is usually strong, so it is hard to find the same spot where you were. I also tie a gopro hero 7 on the tip of my pneumatic speargun with a cheaper wrist/helmet mount, but I also tether it with a little loop of dyneema line to the speargun itself. I found this bungee line made by some US marine veteran company on Amazon. Got a long spool for 10 bucks and I can make easily wrist or neck lanyards. I wish GoPro also came out with a new camera with a smaller form factor, like a Session with small LCD screen and removable battery.

    About the SD Card section, any tips or pros and cons of having 1 large capacity card like the Sandisk 512 Extreme Pro rather than multiple smaller capacity cards?

    • @DavidManningvlog
      @DavidManningvlog  2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      That's always a hot topic amongst photographers/filmmakers, but it generally boils down to having your eggs in multiple baskets or having your eggs in one basket. Things happen. Terrible things! Like losing your GoPro somehow, having it stolen, having it fail on you, having the SD card fail, etc. When/if that happens, the argument goes that if you had multiple SD cards, you could have swapped out the first one or two and be on your third by that point when something terrible happened. Which would mean you didn't lose an entire day's worth of footage, but just the last little bit that you filmed. Totally up to you, but I keep about six or seven 128GB cards in my bag so that anytime I'm about to put my GoPro/Osmo Action/Drone in a dangerous situation, there's a fresh SD card in there with no other footage from the day👍

    I wouldn't recomend the Octo mask, of for that matter any head mount, for SCUBA diving. You get a lot of whirlwind head turns and and ruins most of the footage. Holding it out on a wrist mount or, just a grip gives more control and consistent footage.

    My Christmas was a go pro 10 today after many years I wanted one from the beginning 😂 I think like from go pro 6? Yes, I'm not mistaken, but well, I don't care if it gets hot because nobody records those very long times. Also let's agree that are designed to record underwater. Obviously they have to be sealed compared to a dslr or large cameras that heat up even though they are large compared to a go pro. I'm happy with my go pro 10 because I can get the juice at 5.3k 60 It's good that I could see the whole video very well explained make sense I as a videographer don't worry about that we're going to make movies anyway

    It is unbelievable that you didn't mention MOST important MUST HAVE accessory and that is any rotating clip, connector or else (however to call it). When you mount gopro on a bike or on a bike-helmet or ski-helmet, 360 degrees rotator gives you varieties of angles of recording without removing your camera and re-mounting. It it so practical so you have any angle at your disposal !
