- It is finally here!! After hearing about this camera in leaks and then two delays to launch I finally have my hands on the new GoPro Mini. I take it for a test spin and share my thoughts on flying and color grading the new camera.

I’m really liking this new camera. GoPro labs really takes it to the next level. I may have to make a video showing off all the features and just how much you can really tweak this camera.

Awesome video Stingy! I'm really liking the Gopro Mini form factor over the full size Gopros for sure. I'm planning on using it for chase and cinematic style flying. Im hopeful for the Session 6 to come out for freestyle!

Is there any real benefit to pay extra for the dual screen vs power combo on the Action 2 for fpv?
I flew on my 4s nazgul Evoque and definitely noticed the weight difference. Not sure the best way to over compensate, but I coming from using a action 2. Image quality great and stabilisation though. Hoping for a sunny/dry day to properly test it in uk.

Just got the 11 mini too! It’s a bit heavy for sure (especially if you still run a 4s setup like I do), but man! The video quality is something else! Gonna remove the back of mine like you did, and make a mount in solidworks!

How have you managed to solve the jerky panning issue with the the hero11 ? Hypersmooth works great unless you are doing smooth pans while flying. It puts in little jerky movements which look very bad.
Did you leave the Wifi on? I have heard that it can cause fail safe? I downloaded QRcontrol app and firmware but after doing so my videos were like it was setup in slow motion

I just ordered one today, and haven't flown with a GoPro in a while. What's a good way to match the GoPro angle with the FPV Camera angle? Thanks for any info!

I highly suggest using a Leeming lut to correct each then drop whatever you want on that.

I have used the scopes in the past. It is really handy to get facial tones just right.
Your flying skills are nuts… Good grief! I’m looking at the mini to replace my Hero 9 for mountain biking… seeing it perform at this level in overcast light is crazy good!

Tested the 10 bit color GH11 mini match to my Sony slog footage, she holds up! 🎉🎉🎉

Yeah I pushed it a bit. I'm curious just how far I can push it when I have better lighting.
Nice to the point review…what does the body look like with the tabs removed? Does them missing effect the IP rating?
I'm not sure. I hope not.
Weight wise you could try a 5.5" like the AOS 5.5 to counterbalance the weight... I tried it and the difference to a 5" with that hero 9 on it is night and day... just so much authority and you can feel the drone being able to handle it much easier.

I feel the flat color on the 11 looks a bit saturated compared to the previous heros, what do you think?
I totally agree. I had to double check that I had even turned on flat colors

Hey Stingy, can you do a FCPx series over the winter? Im new to it and it would be sick to see you do a series on how you do an edit from start to finish.
I used to do live edits on twitch. It's kinda a pain to setup and do a whole edit. Maybe I can make some pointer videos.
How is the battery life in the mini? I love the no screens but not being able to swap batteries has me worried.
Would you mind sharing what mount you are using for the SourceOne V5?
That original plastic GoPro screw is also pretty heavy, around 9.5 gr. You can get the aluminium one from the Apex DC, that one is 1.5 gr if I remember correctly.
Yeah I'm getting rid of the screw mount all together.

kinda excited for the mini, i'm still on hero 6's and auw 700g and candycane props my quads feel super nice, so the mini looks like a solid option.
My AUW is less than that with the mini. It was 650 in this video.

Oh man. Welcome to the rabbit hole known as FPV. I am using the DJI FPV goggles. They have recently released a new version and there are several other systems to chose from. Check out more of my videos and check out Joshua Bardwell's channel for great advise about getting into FPV.

I heared you can't turn of wifi/bluetooth connection. Doesnt this make a quad go failsafe? i had this on my session 5 some time. any tips?
How hot it turns when using it? Just curious, mine turns very hot in the back
Ahh man, I know all too well about those batteries being charged for way too long lol. After a week or two, I'll get this sick feeling about it, and go discharge them. Then inevitably it'll end up being nice out a day later, and they'll all get charged again. So goes the cycle. lol. Thank you for the stellar review!!!

I was expecting it to be much lighter. I have a H8 with 4.13 oz / 117 g weight, and H11 Mini weights 133g, so heavier than the H8!
yeah, I don't own an action 2, but never been a fan of the footage that you guys have posted online with it. The GoPro looks much better IMO. Thanks Stingy.

Great review, thanks! I don’t know, maybe it’s the overcast day, but I wasn’t very impressed with the image quality. And the dynamic range doesn’t seem to be that great either. I expected more to be honest
My only gripe is with the new stabilization, it does some wonky things at time. Other than that solid camera
If they'd return to the session form factor, I might be interested. I'm still flying my session 4 along with a few hero 5 blacks, and one heros 6 black. They all work for what I need them for, bought them all used on Ebay a few years ago for $100 or less each. I can't see throwing a 4,5, or $600+ Gopro on my kwad that will sooner or later kill it, Just me though. Never really needed the lastest and greatest. I let everybody else upgrade, then buy their old units at a heavily discounted price. 😆

I use total tech and you have two years of protection. Just trade it in when it’s smashed.
It works out to the same weight as a hero6 once you remove both sets of feet which I think is actually perfect.
How would you mount it without the feets? Is a 3d printed mount lighter?

How much camera angle do you run? "I like to look at the top plate" haha, I definitely want to snag one of those, maybe the 12 will be smaller. ;)
A lot lol. But usually around 20.
I'm still using my old standard session and a hero 3 silver lol I'm a simple man loloh and all my quads are running betaflight 3.0 or earlier and I'm happy flying them

Action 2 shadows are horrific. Unusable. Excited for the 11 mini, I'll pull off the fingers and rock it for sure.
I agree. So are the constant exposure adjustments.
Why not hyperview if you liked the wide fov of the action 2?
I’m gonna try it out. In the couple of clips I’ve seen it just looks a little odd. Like too much vertical and not enough horizontal.
I like it but I hate the time it take for GoPro quick app to load the screen to it

If we learned anything since the session 5 is that they don’t make it for a long time so buy as many as you can

i’m a bit confused about recording in 30 fps, are u recording in 30 and posting in a different frame rate, if i record in 30 it’s always really stuttery
also what settings are best for freestyle, wide or linear? i’m coming from an action 2 and hyper + superview look a bit strange
I am constantly changing my settings. For freestyle I run superview with either the lowest stabilization or none.
I have an issue when i slam a gopro it wont turn on again until i swap batterys, im worried only having an internal battery on the mini will be an issue.
How did you deal with it on a session? Hold down both buttons to reset? It works on the mini too. I had to do it once. So far it’s working for me.

Still don't see a point to upgrade from a hero 8. Hero 8 with a ND Filter and setup correctly with locked white balance, flat profile, ISO locked 100-400, shutter speed locked, stabilized in post, and color graded will look superb and you have removable batteries, SD card, and still weighs less than the 11.
Is the GoPro still waterproof if you remove those finger mounts?
I think removing these mounts isnt interesting. They‘ll Never weight 15g each… saw something like 1g each somewhere😅

Yeah just low light. I was making the best of what I had.

Yes! All cameras from HERO8 onward are compatible with The Remote.

You power it off the quad correct
It comes with its own internal battery. You could heavily modify it to do that though.

Have you encountered the issue where it freezes yet?
Mine has frozen several times on the bench but never while flying. Hold both buttons for several seconds to reset it.

I think I’ll pass on the 120g camera I’ve been enjoying 5 - 6 minute flight times going down to 3- 4 mins again doesn’t fill me with joy, action 2 for recreational flying any day of the week

If I was going to make some bank off of it by using it on my drone then Id be down. But its over 500 CAD, way to much to invest in a recreational cam for me, Ill stick with my runcams, but thanks for the review.

Yeah I've been flying the source one for a while. My frame came out so long ago. It was optimized for a much lighter setup than is common these days. (4s and a gopro session) One day I'll make another frame exactly to my specifications.

DJI action 2 cant beat the weight and capture, Gopro is loosing edge in FPV world for me.
Looks like the weight is going to annoying you until you go back to an action2 weight.
TPU mount will also add weight.

Try adding some TPA 55% and throttle Expo like 10% it will help you with making your throttle less twitchy. Oh and don’t keep charged batteries for more than a week or two, you’re slowly ruining them 😂
