£10k is a lot to drop on a 17 year old car. However, once all the work it done the car will be transformed and good to go for many years. Personally, I prefer investing in maintenance rather than suffering from depreciation.

Just had a big reply wiped out by an advert. Bastards. I'll try again...
I like your perspective. That's some sort of bangernomics principle that works for me. I tend to buy old, looked after cars when 10 years old. Stuff people might assume is about to implode or they're lured by 'new and shiny = better'. Each to their own though, we all have different tastes and requirements.
But for the enthusiast, it's worth it, especially if you're not reliant on the one, old vehicle for daily transport. I've got two old ones that I rotate 😂
I like doing the work myself, fitting quality parts, knowing what's been done. It's a hobby. I get people just want a reliable vehicle for A to B, so they go new or nearly new. A quality car that's well designed and maintained can go on and on and on, and offer something different to the new. My Audi 90 20v is testament to that.
At this point, I think the RS4 B7 is probably at the cheapest it'll be (at 17 years old), but what a car. It's likely to start appreciating soon, or at least hold it's value imho.

Great video and glad you are back online. Certainly an eye opener to how quickly the costs can spiral and that even with the prices reasonably firm for a good RS4 B7, that £10k going into the car is going to be a decision of the heart rather than recouping that outlay in the short to medium term.

Thank you for announcing the prices so it will help other people to se how much things are cost before they make the decision on any purchase or repair of the car .
People just think it's all easy and cheap
That's why broken car is woth that much and good car that much
Or how costly it will run you if you don't do it by the book..
    Thank you for you videos

I tell you if i was in the market for an rs4B7 and you posted this one up for sale after all the work you are doing it would be a no brainer! Anything of that age not worked on is going to present bills, not all at the same time but certainly adding up to that in a year or two. To have one sorted so completely is worth a premium price IMHO. Great vid as usual!

I have a '12, S4 that is stage 2+ APR. Vossen Wheels, APR Big Brake kit up front, full H&R coil over racing suspension, sway bars front and rear, Armytrix exhaust, Enlais rear splitter, it's a show stopper! I've got 62K miles on it, it's been pampered and somewhat of a garage princess. Now that my son is turning 16 in a couple of weeks, I'm handing him my daily, a stage 2 Golf R, so I'll be reunited with my B8.
So funny that when I get in the car, at 11 years old, everyone thinks it's a new car!

  • @Ludwig_996

    Nice job !
For sure the b7 is a legendary car and it should be a classic audi sport car on a near future. But as a rs4 b7 owner, I can confirm that in term of cost, this car is a nightmare ! Spare parts prices Increased a lot on the two last years, a lot of parts are only available as a genuine (€€€+) or out of stock and not all the shops are able or want to work on it. If you want to buy an rs4 b7, please plan to put mini 1,5/2k€ per years just to keep it alive. And cross your fingers to not have serious issues. I really love mine, but the ratio cost/pleasure is not really good as soon as the car starts to have more than 60000 miles ( 100000km) carbon cleaning, injectors, pcv, HP fuel pump, DRC, front axe, clutch, etc… 😢

    • @kiordanov
      @kiordanov ปีที่แล้ว +1

Absolutely agree with this. I just picked one up 3 months ago. It's spent 2 of those in the shop. Not only is it expensive (I'm looking at a 3k bill for a new TB and some other minor things) but parts are hard to find and take forever to get delivered. Good thing this isn't my daily driver. I have maintenance records from the previous owner. It's been between 2-6k (Swiss francs) almost every year for the last 5 years and it's only on 100k kilometers. The DRC was done but the rest was all relatively minor/routine stuff. I read people say that there are only a few big-ticket items on these cars but I disagree. No matter what you do on this car it will be at least a grand. I was fortunate to acquire it at about 50% of current market prices so I have room for some maintenance costs but otherwise no way..

Man you guys are so thorough. That's about $19000 AU plus. Oooooeeeee, that's a big hit but then European cars are pricey to fix especially over here in Oz. I have a 2008 BMW 135i which requires some engine work (oil leaks, decarbon intake ports etc etc) and although I could do most of it myself I can't be arsed at my age (70) so will get it done for me. I plan on keeping it because it has only 66,000km on the clock and it in otherwise mint condition. Decisions decisions decisions....

Great video and I really do admire your expertise. Really can’t get over the money that needs spending. I looked at these before I bought a Lexus ISF with the 2UR-GSE 5.0 V8, 417bhp. Besides wear and tear nothing went wrong in 5 years and nothing does go wrong especially to this extent at 60k! Plus these coke up too and you end up down on power. I know you work on these because they constantly break and it’s work for you but it’s not great reliability is it. Plus do the owners actually research these cars.

I get this question off customers all the time is it worth doing? Well would you rather spend £1200 on a car you know or pull £7000 to £10000 out of your pocket on a second hand car you know nothing about, that's your choice not mine, I can only give you my honest opinion on your car, and yes sometimes it's not worth it and I advise people that your gonna spend more than the car is worth but sometimes better the devil you know 👍

I would love an RS4, but this is what puts me off. One day the dream car turns into a nightmare because a £20 nylon timing chain guide snaps and costs £10K to put right. My only thought; buy the car and fit a brand new timing chain kit and intake manifold kit as a preventitive measure asap.

After watching other videos, with similar timing issues, my guess, was timing adjuster broken.
10k is hell of a lot to spend in one go, but, if the owner decides to go ahead, then everything's done, and the car will have a new lease of life.
These vehicles are money pits IF they're not well maintained from the start.
Personally, I would only buy one, if it was from new, but that ain't happening any time soon.

I had the throttle body looked at ,and the guy lost the cover of the plug
Audi can only see diagram of harness but can’t determine which plug cover it is
Really need someone with one ,and take a look and put me out of my misery
I don’t know why I am getting so worked up at for a plug cover at less than tenner after spending 4k to remedy my problem
Good news is the Rs4 is running faultless
Thanks for your reply and time

I have a 2015 Audi S4. oer a year ago it started having shifting problems. I took into the dealer and said it was a mechtronic problem and they replaced. Now I have no reverse. I took it to another shop and they replaced a sensor and for about a week worked ok and the all of a sudden started having the same problem and I was told that I have to take it to the dealer because the transmission heating control is only dealer part. So I took it back to the dealer and they said I have to replace the entire tansmission. The car has only 70K miles and all this is happening. Any ideas on what the proble is a nd if i cane the transmission will that solve the problem for sure? Thanks for your help.

Question, I have 2008 A6 S-Line with the 4.2 that just touched 160k miles. Car runs great, never had any major issues (replaced a cam solenoid a few years back) couple other minor things but thats it, IS this car approaching its end of life where I should think about selling before something breaks? Im very meticulous on maintenance and oil changes etc..... I just daily it back and forth to work.... My garage queen is a 2017 S7 lol.

Dont think so , if you’ll keep up the service up to date it can run 4ever

Seems at the beginning you were praising the engine and how it “lasts forever”, but really, you actually proved it’s only good for 60k at a time 😂

Have to keep it in the budget … always things what need changing but you have stop somewhere otherwise the bill will go over Empire State Building 😗

@@VAGTechnic yea i totally agree but is the starter known to fail at a certain mileage?
if it's not likely, I'd take the risk. I had my alternator fail around the 100k mile mark on my 2010 B8 S5 4.2L .

I always say Milage.on these cars don't mean a lot, 60k on that car and engine went out, I got 160k on mine, and runs strong..... thing happen, well I wonder if he fixed the car or not, IF he did, no reason to sell it anymore

I do have some misfiring on cylinder 1 and 2 when doing a cold start. In the other 6 no misfiring. And a high frequency rattling noise the first 2min after cold start. Anyone an idea what it could be? New spark plugs coils and carbon clean has been done 500 miles ago.
