  • Welcome to a 3rd video with the RS4 B7.
I managed to combine one happy ending and one problematic repair that we did in our workshop. I test drove the RS4 and RS6 the same weekend and unfortunately one of them didn't make it back and recovery was needed. In this video I would like to tell you the true issues with old German sports cars. No matter how much you love them , no matter how much money you spend, they can always turn their back on you.
    Thank you for watching

I was an Audi parts manager for 15 years and what really pissed me of is Audi’s lack of support for older cars, it’s disgraceful.. an idea for Audi fans is flood Audi Germany and social media with complaints about lack of support for older premium range cars, See if that has any effects

I'm wondering if I should sell mine. I love the car but I hardly drive it and the parts availability and the cost of the parts when you can get them is a concern. I recently priced out an oil cooler, I don't need one currently but I know they often need to be replaced. Dealer gave me a price of $4,300 Canadian, that's crazy

    • @stevefairbanks835

@@marksinclair1173 you could bypass the oe and fit an aftermarket competition oil cooler, use a thermostat as well. It’s a hell of a thing to do get rid of your pride and joy. I could get parts here if available and ship if anyone is interested, would be interesting to find the price difference between USA/Canada and the UK

Unfortunately they’ve stopped supplying OE parts too soon, we too have at our garage an RS6 C5 and a W12 D2 and the lack of parts is really a huge problem as there are no aftermarket parts for these kind of vehicles and you’d have to either manufacture it or improvise from other Audi parts. Shame to Audi for not standing behind their products as we owners do, other german brands still supply parts for their even older models, while Audi can’t do that for vehicles barely reaching the 20-25 years old mark. On to the cooling system of the RS6, i’ve owned 2 RS6 C5 both were driven in the Middle East and never had issues with overheating even at 50C and city traffic, the AC wasn’t that great when it was that hot but the cars never overheated, had a track-day with one one of them too and did great in that hot climate.

I have been a VAG technician for 25 years. I have a amazing c5 allroad which is a money pit but sorted. It's now summer here. It overheats at times. New heater core, plugged, which I have to back flush occasionally. New factory radiator. It still runs hot when I turn it off. New temp sensors x3. New afterrun coolant pump. New factory fan controller. After running pump and fan still no longer works? My wiring diagrams are confusing. Any ideas?

Great work guys , a big fan here for your work and dedication. Especially the older V8's , because i was passionate enough to buy one myself . I'm located in Istanbul , got a 99 S6 -4B with 4.2 N/A . Manual swapped it , tuned the ECU from Nefmoto and VCDS . In my 3rd year of ownership , already done the cam-chain tensioners and other bits and bobs like timing belt kit with pulleys and water pump . Pretty simple unless its a turbo. These engines are actually pretty rigid , clocked at 300.000 km , still measured 11 psi compression from all cylinders . Had to delete the variable intake diaphram due to the lack of parts. Re-wired the engine , but the mechanical torque is intoxicating . Also the automatic ZF5HP24A was 160 kg , and the 01E manual was 62 kg , the car now weighs 1630 kg. Which i must say is a handful. Sad to see the old A8 and A6 s lying around in Europe , but i thing the future is in manual swaps in these old cars . Reduction in radiator load , fuel consumption and weight .
    Cheers.

  • @alanprice3524

When you receive the new radiator place it face down so the exit pipes are facing upward and fill it with hot water, then use either a inferred thermometer or a thermal imager on the full radiator and that should give you a good indication of the water flow and heat distribution through the radiator.

ouch on the Overheating B5 ...I think you guys should be fine regarding liability ...as you proposed to the owner to go with new OEM radiator, but he opted for some aftermarket replacement. I'm a little disappointed that the aftermarket radiator company didn't realize that there would be an additional pass in the OEM radiator due to the locations of the inlet/outlet ports being on the same side. The coolant would just straight-line to the outlet and not as you say take the long way around utilizing the entire cooling surface area. Thanks for uploading these video, very informative info for sure!

  • @aukanmeister

I don't really think that was unreasonable for the amount of work that was done. You basically did a full renewal of the engine. At least the bits that are failing due to age like plastic, rubber and stuff. The owner can now be confident it will be good for many, many years.

when you think of the years ahead its really not a bad investment , as long as you owned the car for a while first ,, if you had just bought the car and then had to spend that on top it would hurt.
very well spotted on the radiator issue , ok , well diagnosed as the internal baffles couldnt be spotted but theres no way you should be responsible for that ,,, fingers crossed all is good as it didnt really get a big cooking.

Had loads of radiators rebuilt or repaired cars vans trucks plant never had a problem my repairers will also tell you different prices for different cores ie budget against premium the cores are different tube diameter and the number of rows which leads to overheating if for instance you go for budget not saying this is the case but sometimes because of supply you encounter these problems
Regards stuck on the ramp choose a time where the owner or the supplier has to decide how long you will be waiting (a reasonable time in this case) for the parts without it eating into your revenue then charge for storage but that’s business great vid sorry to say been there and got the T-shirt 👍👨🏻‍🏭
