Off Road In The New Ford Everest: 4x4 Review

- It’s become a cliché that modern 4x4s spend most of their time navigating mall parking lots, occasionally taking on a pavement here and there, instead of grinding through mud and sand and mud and more mud.
However, with the new Ford Everest arriving in SA, packed full of the latest in Ford’s 4x4 technology, we thought mall parking lots and curbstones just wouldn’t be enough to challenge the latest bakkie-based SUV.
And so we headed out to the infamous Melk “Bos” 4x4 facility north of Cape Town, and the result is this video: a full off-road affair with all the mud-flinging, water-diving, side-skirt-scraping three-wheeled action you could hope for…or at least that I could pull off without breaking the car/injuring myself/breaking a camera.
With a new terrain response system, which you’ll see in action, it was as easy as turning a dial to deal with whatever the Ford wanted to climb over. And as capable as it felt from the get-go, it felt virtually invincible when in 4x4 low. It’s like running out of ammunition in a battle, only to remember you have a tank ready and waiting.
However, as good as it might be out here, what really matters is how the Everest fares in the hearts and minds of South African motorists. At around R650 000 for the top of the range Limited model in our video, it is pricier than the current Toyota Fortuner, but there’ll be a new one of those out early in 2016, and I think it’s fair to wait until then to compare the two.
At that price, the Everest is in line with the Toyota Prado, and with its impressively luxurious interior, we think some buyers might be interested in comparing the two.
After a full day out in HelGat, the facility’s 4x4 crater of awesome, I was a) badly sunburnt and b) hugely impressed with how easy it was to pilot the Everest over the rough stuff. Either I am very good at this sort of thing, or the Everest is very good offroad. And I think we all know the answer to that.

Is the new everest taller than the 2014 model of everest?,its just that it looks taller when I am seeing it on the road nowadays, it seem shorter and smaller a little bit than the older version which is what we have. But its talller right?

I said it before I will say it again...Nissan Pathfinder had most of this gadgetry (transmission and suspension) way back...I guess their marketing just couldn't convince the public
There's a lot to like about it, but that belt-line is unreasonably high. I just don't get why they thought that was a good idea.
But how is it on the open road? People don't 4x4 all the time.
you need to put more people on that wheel to simulate the real uses.

I am very interested in why the Chevrolet Trailblazer did not once exit your mouth, or was mentioned? It is in the same class as the "so-called' mighty fortuner. I drive a Trailblazer, and it is mighty competent. I would choose it again. But my Q remains, why is it not even mentioned as a competitor? ?

Here at the Cars.co.za office, the Trailblazer is well liked (in fact it's a personal favourite) and often recommended, but the reality is that the Fortuner is the market leader by some margin, and I was wondering aloud as to what kind of dent this new Everest might make in the Fortune's dominance. Most of these vehicles will never see any sand or mud let alone get the tyres dirty. Probably used as a Mums Taxi. Where will the bull bar go plus 12,000 lb warn winch. What about spare wheel carrier ??? Low profile tyres are no go on the beach. Cant deflate them for off road work

Cannot comment but one thing is for sure that mitsubishi ain't what they were before and with steering in the hands of renault their fate as a company is completely in the hand of almighty just like the way nissans future speculations have arisen. They're line up is just junk excluding some of their patrols and armendas are. They as a brand are going to go defunct just like ford did with their mercury line up.
Expert rise up to the volume saying the end for mitsubishi is very close . Hence mitsubishi are almost a brand that is defunct and have shifted long back from automobiles to other buisness in the automotive industry.
So it's obvious that we'll see Toyota manufacturing vechiles on a large scale and even create brands like the hilux abd supra for resident evil village and for fast and furious
So what that SUV really is, is a Euro Ford Explorer.
