Great work lately reviewing all the cars I've been looking at. Just bought a 2022 2.0 titanium and after Jim's epic run down I'm happy there is plenty of warranty left. When reviewing these 4x4, can you comment more on the towing/off road chops please?
17:11 - Why do dealerships often come up with excuses to void vehicle warranties and not honour them, like saying that having a catch can installed voids the warranty as Jim said at 16:53 into the video?
Was looking at a either a used or possibly new one. After seeing this and since the engine and transmission has not changed in the new models... Toyota here I come 😆
The best buy is a 2.2 XLT automatic. Had one for 4 years loved it, never had issue's, I don't trust a 3.2 at all but have seen many 2.2 rangers and Everests with 400k or more. The 2017 updated automatic had all the issues fixed and most of the problems were with the 3.2 in the most cases.
I had an Everest for 6 years. I had plenty of the issues outlined, EGR failures (x2), Ad-Blue Heater, Rust in doors, random electrical gremlins (screen and tailgate), warped wheel nuts, inconsistent and rough transmission shifts and a torque converter that would randomly unlock at highway speeds for a minute or two. Our Ford Dealer was excellent, but any time I went on a long drive I didn't know if it would get me home. Not a pleasant owning experience.
Someone get Jim a cold beverage, he had his work cut out for him with this one. So basically buy one if it hasn't been used for what it was marketed for, and it might not empty your bank balance. Or buy a Fortuner of Pajero Sport and use it and enjoy it.
It'd be good to ask the owners what their various maintenance regimes have been from an interior perspective. When you reviewed the SK Forester you said the leather was hard, but mine is about the same age and mileage, and I manage to use upholstery protection every 3 to 6 months and it's still about the same as new, maybe a bit shinier, but still fairly soft. This with 190k, would be good to know, is it mainly a long haul cruiser, or a daily commuter, because what hurts the seat bolsters is entry and egress movements, more than necessarily being sat in, so if it's driving a few hundred ks at a time vs 10k, it can make a big difference.
Fortuners are awesome rigs mate I had one for 2 years drove a few big missions east coast, bullet proof comfy and very very capable off road. That was a GXL with cloth seats (great!) now have a Prado vx but I still love that fortuner.
I have a 2015 ranger Always heavy Absolutely love it But you do need to do the bypass valve Transmission cooler Very regularly service with a new fuel filter every time

As a company now with basically one model in our market you would think they would be on top of any issues. Amazing they still sell as well as they doing considering all the issues. Rusty panels today.WTF?
I have an early 2016 Everest Limited (titanium) 3.2, the fist of this generation. I bought it with only 7000km on the clock in 2018. I just hit 50 000km a few weeks and have had no mechanical issues, and no rust issues. The only issue I have had is the tailgate issue, which was compounded by the tailgate being really poorly fitted from the factory. My vehicle is out of warranty so I'll have to have it repaired out of my own pocket. Other than that, this vehicle is exceptional. I have serviced the vehicle every year whether I have hit the distance interval or not, but this long list of problems doesn't exactly fill me with confidence for my next 50 000km though.
I have a mate at work in the middle of a law suit with Ford ATM relating to a 2L Ranger burning to the ground on the side of the road. This was his second Ranger both with the same faulty Fuel leak on the engine. His first car was replaced, Second one Burnt to the ground. We are betting they will pay him out to keep quiet about it. Now its no surprise after watching this review. Would never buy one myself personally. Jimbo needs a beer after this one haha.. Nice work guys keep it up....

Fark! My 30 year old landcruiser has not had a single issue like this in my 25 years of owning it. Except some rust. But I live on the beach so that’s forgiven
I just sold our 4year old Everest for 55% of the purchased price. It was a 4wd Titanium version. It was white with brown leather. I had over maintained it because if the 2 liter biturbo and the 10R80 10 speed transmission woes. But I had zero problems in 80k km’s and kept all the maintenance records for the new private owner. It was a great car. We just wanted to buy a 2nd Model y.

@@Gogga7 kms? Not a single one will last to 250,000 without a major problem or a hugely significant preventative maintenance measures such as described here, any new vehicle should not need modifications and additional parts to add reliability or longevity
@mitchell5064 I always wondered how some of these utes get treated. I change my oil every 10k, and my mechanic checks and does what needs to be done at every service. I suspect all these engine failures are caused from the recommended 15k service intervals. Maybe not, just a thought
The EGR is a common issue and like Jim mentioned, if it isn't picked up quickly enough by the driver, total engine failure will be the end result. However Redarc do an after market kit that warns the driver that there is a problem with the EGR before it causes permanent damage.
@@mwat22 Well l have to agree with you on that well they sell a lot of them in Australia most Australians like them when some people are wise in making choices when buying cars and keeping them l own a 1997 Hilux myself and about updating their vehicles well the Land Cruiser 70 series it hasn't been really updated in years the latest update is that are making 4 cylinder ones
Why are there these repair issues? Is it because QC is low? The parts are under engineered / or not using high enough quality material in the first place? Are Ford pushing the envelope too far too soon? Why is it so? 🤔
These began life as a Ute built in Thailand ..until someone at Ford decided to do a makeover of it into 4 door SUV ...not the best philosophy for a refined wagon/terrain vehicle...still in Thailand.
What goes wrong - oil pumps just stop working then engines lock up - drive for fuel pump has no key way and comes loose = no pump pressure - front drive shaft flogs out quickly- BCM issues and the list goes on

I used to drive Ford Territory and it was decent car even with few issues but this is the whole another level of Forrest Gump situation!Run from it run until you're out of town lol.Would definitely look for something else
Some friends in NZ had one of these. Nice to drive but, oh dear, what a reliability nightmare despite regular Ford dealer servicing from new. A new engine (5 cylinder) at just over 100,000 kms was paid for by Ford after some "discussion".
Isuzu MU-X? Better read up on their bump steer issue and the current class action against Isuzu and Mazda. Check out Jim’s BT-50 “what goes wrong video”.
So sad. In every way, other than the obvious 4wd features that few people who buy them will ever use, a late model Commodore Station Wagon is so much better or even a Mazda 6 wagon. Note: I would include the Falcon Station Wagon as well had Ford not totally neglected it for 10 years prior to its demise.
I skipped straight to Jim to get the answer to the question for this video and given how much time Jim spent for the video, you don't need to be a mechanic to say "No".

Thanks 4 another wonderful and professional/informative video! Don't buy a car w/o checking out ReDriven first. I will share the heck out of your channel here in Finland!
Nice vid king. Btw can you please drop the workout routine 😤
Mans has juicy arms
My two neighbours both have one of these Everest things. No wonder neither of them ever smiles 😂
Probably just angry bogans mate. Ranger or Everest are their vehicle of choice.
The missus and I were considering one of these for our next car. Emphasis on "were."
Good Lord that is a long list of shit to potentially deal with. Makes me miss our R51 Pathfinder.
Dumbfounded how the 3.2 5 cylinder models of these and a ranger are so popular heap of shit mechanically
Not to generalise but the do seem to be driven by Idiots.
Coming from someone who owns a 3.2 Ranger, other than normal maintenance and a new battery, it's been flawless. Great car, does everything really well, and that's why they are popular. But believe what you want.
@@Gogga7out of any dual cab ute, I’ve replaced a shit tonne more 3.2s than any other engine.
Would love to hear your thoughts on the Suzuki Kizashi guys!
Awesome car, just ensure the CVT has been serviced.
I rented one for the day to test it. Handled so well but lacked torque. Ended up with a 380 more for its larger engine.
The EGR is a common issue and like Jim mentioned, if it isn't picked up quickly enough by the driver, total engine failure will be the end result. However Redarc do an after market kit that warns the driver that there is a problem with the EGR before it causes permanent damage.
Unless it dumps the coolant into the intake.
That has to be a record the longest ever "what goes wrong mechanical problems" and after that no way would l ever consider buying one of these
you haven't been watching redriven for very long then.
And people laugh at Toyota for not updating their cars often 😂
@@mwat22 This is why l don't see many of them around
@@mwat22 Well l have to agree with you on that well they sell a lot of them in Australia most Australians like them when some people are wise in making choices when buying cars and keeping them l own a 1997 Hilux myself and about updating their vehicles well the Land Cruiser 70 series it hasn't been really updated in years the latest update is that are making 4 cylinder ones
How was this and the ranger one of the best sellers when the whole video consisted of “what went wrong” with Jim, blows my mind 🤯
Could it be possible for a Toyota Fortuner, been thinking of getting one and I drove the 2.8 auto once, but eish the engine didn't feel right
Why are there these repair issues?
Is it because QC is low?
The parts are under engineered / or not using high enough quality material in the first place?
Are Ford pushing the envelope too far too soon?
Why is it so? 🤔
It is a Ford.
The overheating problems on the gearboxes are generally from user error.
I.E overdrive gear whilst towing or wrong gearing for 4WDing.
These began life as a Ute built in Thailand ..until someone at Ford decided to do a makeover of it into 4 door SUV ...not the best philosophy for a refined wagon/terrain vehicle...still in Thailand.
What goes wrong - oil pumps just stop working then engines lock up - drive for fuel pump has no key way and comes loose = no pump pressure - front drive shaft flogs out quickly- BCM issues and the list goes on
Great video.... best review I have seen
Cheers mate!
Nice vid! I'm looking at a Holden Trailblazer/Colorado 7 you guys should do a vid on it!
Nothing scarier than dropping the oil on a 3.2 Ranger/Everest and then having the workshop phone ring.
Pro tip: do not drink coffee before dropping the oil
Was looking at a second hand 2021 model but i think ill go with the paj sport.
I was considering one before realising a Territory does every I wanted for 3rd of the price.
But researching these, I only found the injector issue, trans cooler and egr cooler.
Thats litrally it 😄
Thank you. You’ve just thankfully swung me in the opposite direction in avoiding a likely lemon.
Bought a 2016 BT-50 3.2 manual as a stop gap ute and everytime I drove it I had in the back of my mind that the EGR was going to fail. Once my main car was back I immediately stopped driving it and put it on Carsales 😅
hi hi I search for Everest 2020 and I find one it is driven one lakh 40,000 and it under warranty one year warranty left and they asking for 43,000. It’s good or bad.
🐑 real life image of the people who finance an Everest or ranger
Can we get a review on the 2015 upwards Merc C class preferably diesel please
Does this apply to Ranger?
This only reaffirms my thoughts on Ford product. Oh what a feeling.
watching this after the Fortuner video... what a contrast in what goes wrong!
Is it safe to assume these problems also exist with the equivalent Mazda bt50 then?
We doing Mountains now? I approve.
This here is all you need to know whether to get one of these: “Either stay off dirt roads and creek crossings, or put up with no handbrake.”
Has anyone got any information on at gearbox issue something official
I used to drive Ford Territory and it was decent car even with few issues but this is the whole another level of Forrest Gump situation!Run from it run until you're out of town lol.Would definitely look for something else
Some friends in NZ had one of these. Nice to drive but, oh dear, what a reliability nightmare despite regular Ford dealer servicing from new. A new engine (5 cylinder) at just over 100,000 kms was paid for by Ford after some "discussion".
It seems your routine is to play tennis after every video is made. Good on you.
Cant wait to save up for one of these gems
Fellas! When is the next podcast episode coming out? Loved the first ep but that was a month ago 😢
Dropping very soon!
Had a 2015 Trend. Multiple things went wrong, Ford denied all warranty claims. Sold and bought a Toyota.
Good move 👍
In this day and age it is too risky to take a gamble.....
Was a bit undecided between this Everest and the Nissan pathfinder.
But this video just helped my decision. Thank you 🙏🏾
Pathfinders are pretty shit too
Amazing Vids as usual!
Ah yes, the Ranger owners Wife's car - when Ranger Danger isn't already bad enough 😬😬
So ... mechanically, would second-hand Isuzu MUX or Mitsubishi Pajero Sport be better vehicles to consider?
Isuzu MU-X? Better read up on their bump steer issue and the current class action against Isuzu and Mazda. Check out Jim’s BT-50 “what goes wrong video”.
Last long "what goes wrong" segment was in the VW Touareg I think 😅
Just the right car Full-Time 4wd is just game changer
- Great Video - Poor Jim :) . Hopefully new generation Everest has sorted most issues out.
I doubt it
It's a Ford.
You do good work bro 🇦🇺
Wow that's a lot of things going wrong. Does this little company have much experience in making cars?
This or the new generation Trend/Sport?
