  • Starbucks executive chairman Howard Schultz tells "CBS This Morning" co-host Gayle King he "couldn't believe it" when he saw the video of two black men being arrested at a Philadelphia Starbucks. But he admits the racial bias incident may not be isolated to that store.

Actually, when i was younger and a drinker, my favorite bar in Seattle (shout out to the Comet Tavern) welcomed the homeless, as long as they "did not drink alcohol" and did not panhandle. And some of these people were very interesting with great stories, even if they stank a little. I never once felt offended by this policy. In fact i took pride in it. Maybe it's the way i was raised?

+Tim England Again, Civil rights are being broken. Anyone should be able to go into any establishment, homeless and filthy rich, as paying customers. Some places want more appropriate clothing and that needs to be posted on front door! In a bar, everyone over age 21 can drink, as long as they are approprite in behavior after several drinks, homeless to filthy rich! It sounds like the comet bar is living by 2 justices of the law? Illegal!!!

I can publicly vouch for this man . . . Starbucks chairman Howard Schultz.
I have been a shareholder of Starbucks for many years and I have watched him closely . . . his values . . . his leadership style and his commitment to social justice. He is genuine and he will address this.
And his reaction to this situation is not lip service. While he might have been ignorant of the prevalence or level of inherent racism harbored by employees I'm confident, in no way, he ever supported it.
Howard I believe the solution to this includes firing this particular employee and making an example out of him or her. I suspect you are hesitant to do that but I encourage you to see the benefits of bringing that type of accountability for this kind of behavior which is counter to Starbucks culture.

I briefly trained to be a Starbucks barista after college and one thing that stood out during the training and that I clearly remember to this day is that, anyone who sits inside Starbucks or its outside/al fresco seating areas even though they did not buy or will not buy a drink, the staff is not allowed to ask them to leave or vacate the seats, the premise being that once in their lives they have been customers of Starbucks, only if they're causing trouble perhaps is the only time they can ask people to leave. (this is in the Philippines btw)

starbucks is a business, not a homeless shelter with free showers. if he would have bought a cup of coffee then he would have been able to take a dump and chill there for a bit. but he refused to buy and refused to leave. when that happens, you call the cops and they will ask the individual to leave or arrest them for trespassing regardless of their living status or skin color. you can cough up a few dollars for coffee, leave or spend a few hundred dollars in court costs when the cops put you up in a place to stay due to trespass

You can't just go inside a private business, buy nothing, and refuse to leave when they tell you to leave. It doesn't matter what race you are. This whole story seems absolutely ridiculous to me. Of course the media over-hyped this truly insignificant news story because they knew it would be another log they could throw in the ever-lasting race-war fire

It happened in California at another Starbucks just this past Monday, April 15th. Give them a half day off CEO, but the bigger question should be do you have WRITTEN Starbucks POLICY and GUIDELINES that will be POSTED in All of your facilities. If the staff don't follow the corporate guidelines instead of transferring a problem employee they should suffer automatic TERMINATION.

i go to starbucks 4 days a week, i've had had problems where people come in and not buy coffee or a snack and take my space to drink coffee with my sweet bread, it;s not fair. if people want to be at a place to talk or read, then go to a library, the park, but don't take customers like me and take my space when i want to sit., regardless of race or religion. i live southern california, and in the Coachella Valley and the COACHELLA fest was taking place and when i came to buy coffee, i went to sit on a high table looking out the window, and this youg girl came up to me and told ME that i took her table, i turn directly to her and i said, " does this this table has your name?" and she was there just using the power to use her Iphone for her site report. to me it's wrong to tell that i can't sit there. i believe starbucks should make a policy on their front window that starbucks is a coffee store only and not for other unexcuse reasons.

Rivera Lupe. What would be the point if these guys actually went into Starbucks, and bought coffee, like everybody else. How could the media know that another black person, who didn't follow policy, would know they were being discriminated against? So they play the Race Card and get what they want. I'm surprised Starbucks is offering every black person in America free coffee.

Thank you Starbucks. I had said I will never go to Starbucks again but your company has handled this situation in an extraordinary way and I would be remiss to hold the actions of one person against the whole company. I will however wait until after the training.

Why don' we send all the homeless to your house since you think this is funny and we will see what you think when they decided to stay. The point has nothing to do with homeless people, TROLL, so take that ignorant Fox News style deflection and stick it.

There is also another video floating around about "Starbucks & their customer service" where a black man was refused to use the bathroom cause he havent order (yet)..so he waits by the bathroom for the white man that was allowed to use it & and asked him if he was refused to the bathroom before ordering (while in front of the workers) and he said "No"(he did afterwards)...It was like 2 days ago so by now im sure it made its rounds by now

bill shea Yes, we ALL know white lives matter. No one is disputing that. And keep in mind, no one was saying white lives matter until someone said black lives do. Ugh! White feelings are so fragile. F.U. and your white supremacy! F.U. and the privilege that you DO NOT use to dismantle systemic racism. Black Lives Matter more than your white feelings!!!

Corinna Turner What's "systemic" is : (1) Starbucks hires black people on the regular. (2) Starbucks has blacks in management and upper management. (3) Starbucks has black Licensed Partners. (4) Starbucks serves thousands of black customers DAILY without incident. (5) Managers have asked people of all colors to leave and they have left with no incident. Starbucks is a PRIVATE BUSINESS and not the social services office. What's "systemic" is that in the USA there are too many people who have an entitlement attitude and not enough people stand up to it.

Ok, everybody go to Starlucks tomorrow and Just order nothing and play with your devices
for hours. Also go into the restroom and bathe. My lawyer said to tell them I’me waiting
for a friend. Can you go to any restaurant and just sit and wait for someone? What
if the person they are waiting for don’t show up for several hours? At least order a drink
or a beverage. Most people would order something right away and not wait for someone
    to show up.😛
