Masking tape in a pipe is very typical. They do that because they have to compress the packing to get it into the pipe. The idea is that the masking tape will burn off and the packing will expand to fill the pipe completely. Tho, I've never seen that much tape. Usually its just enough to hold the packing to get it into the pipe.
Good, honest review man. You tried something, it sucked and you changed it back. Honest. I like that! The masking tape thing, that looks like shit, but they put that on just to hold the fiberglass in place for assembly. The baffle isn't really designed to be taken in and out multiple times. If I take mine out, which I doubt after watching your video, I'll just wrap new masking tape around them for reinsertion, and put them back in.
Thanks for watching. Someone below you said the masking tape was just to hold the packing in place as well. I’d recommend leaving them in and if you’re looking for more volume a de catted head pipe really made mine sound awesome.
Thanks for the insight! I’ve been debating on taking mine out but now I’ll prob leave them in. I’m on a 2018 street glide with tab bam sticks. I’m unsure of the baffles in it because I bought it used.
My Zombies were shipped bare. Are you sure you didn’t install shipping/packing material that were wrapped around the baffles ? I know the medium sounding baffles have a fiberglass covering, but zombies are straight metal
Hey man, you lost torque because of exhaust gas reversioning. It's not because of the lack of back pressure which a lot of guys will tell you. Basically it's the exhaust trying to go back into the combustion cylinder because the exhaust gas has not left the pipe and the motor is sucking it back in on the next revolution. Think about velocity. If you have two exhaust pulses of equal volume, one in a 2" pipe and one in a 3" pipe, the pulse in the 2" pipe will be traveling considerably FASTER than the pulse in the 3" pipe. Basically the baffles make the exhaust faster because of the narrowed down baffles. If you want open pipes, DK Customs sells a product called Thunder Torque Inserts that speeds up your exhaust in your open pipes. It's fluid dynamics and hard to explain! The Thunder Torgues create suction to make the exhaust faster. They also have a video explaining this. So, don't give up on the open pipes Brother! th-cam.com/video/g2VB0nBFhTQ/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=DKCustomProducts
Yea I’ve seen those I love dk custom products have their cooling wings and oil filter relocation kit quality shit….I cammed my bike and that made it loud as shit so no need for straight pipes anymore lol
@@theaveragebikergarage That's awesome! Next week I am ordering the same things for my bike, plus a tank lift! Yessir, quality stuff from these guys! Hopefully I can get somewhere from 30 to 50 degrees reduction is heat. My bike is all stock, just got her a month ago. Keep pumping out the vids man, I enjoy them a lot!
Zombie baffle do not come with backing if you have any kind of louvered baffle inside that is not a zombie baffle zombie baffles have a smooth and straight pipe inside and they do not come with any packing from the factory..
Interesting. I've never heard of them either but just watched video. Thanks for the idea. I've been thinking about replacing the baffle because I installed open headers as pert of my stage II, and feel as if I lost a little something. The bike is also SUPER loud now.
You can remove the packing and not loose any performance or cut the steel baffle down till u like the sound start cutting off 3/4 and go from there more cut off less performance
Just got the zombie baffles on my lowrider st…. Omg. They are loud… Almost too loud… I never thought I would say that…. But I’m in Minnesota.. so I only heard them inside a building so the sound was amplified by the walls
What you putting them on? I can still hear my radio over them no problem. These aren’t the bam sticks they are just the slash cuts but according to the guy I talked to at TAB the only difference between these and the 4 inch bam sticks is the changeable tip. I have no experience with the 4.5 so I can’t comment on those.
Gotta take the metal mesh catylist out of the stock headpipes brother.... Clogging it up big time.... Delboys garage shows you how.... Tab slip ons usually sound awesome
I’m trying to keep all stock parts if I ever sell this shit but I’m starting to think fuck it and do it anyways....have you done it? Big difference when you gut the cat?
Removed my cat, pulled the glass packing off the baffles, reinstalled the baffles and added the zombie rings with the torque cone...... Holy S#!+ you should hear and feel the difference!!!!!
Thanks for the video. I installed the TAB Bam Sticks as part of my Stage I. Like them a lot. Sound was perfect for me. When I did stage II I installed the Fullsack headers with no catalytic converter. Bike is SUPER loud now, and I obviously lost back pressure. A Harley mechanic told me the M8 engine loves back pressure so I'm thinking about replacing the Zombies. I would have been interested in seeing what the baffle looked like under the fiberglass. I was actually surprised at how long they were. Are they louvered?
I honestly cant remember if they were louvered or not i wanna say they werent but im not 100% on that. I installed a stock head pipe that was de-catted and that really made these pipes sound awesome and i havent noticed and significant loss of power with doing that.
I thought they sounded bad ass with the baffles man.... I'm considering g ordering these for my 03 road king.. Between these and the monster ovals from vnh...
Yea they sound great with the baffles and after removing them I lost a lot of tourque made the bike a pooch so I put them back in....haven’t heard the monster ovals but for the price you can’t beat these...let me know what ya choose and thanks for watching
Did you try to remove the packing from the baffles and put them back in? This may give you the volume you're looking for while maintaining some back pressure to preserve torque (although the baffles are practically straight pipes, so not sure).
Thanks for your video. I just got my 202 Fat Boy and i am thinking changing out the exhaust. Between vance and hines full system and TAB performance zombie, which one is louder? Which one would you recommend?
Thanks for watching…as far as which exhaust system to go with that’s completely up to you ….I did what was best for my budget at the time just gut the cat and got the cheaper tab slip ons and was pretty happy with it then got the cams and now it’s stupid loud…I just recently met a girl that rides a SG and she has the full v&h system head pipe to slip ons with out a cam and hers was super loud so again it’s based on your budget and what you want to spend they’re both good systems
Great video. Thank you. I have the zombies in my 4" BAM sticks. I replaced V&H monster ovals because after lowering my bike 1", those wider monster ovals scraped too easily. The BAM sticks with zombies are easily 30% louder than the V&H Ovals. I'm actually going to swap out for the medium baffles to see if I can tone it down just a bit. Question, how many miles did you have when you pulled those baffles out. I'm just concerned about getting those zombies "baked in" and then having a hard time yanking them out. Thanks again....
I had maybe 100 miles on the bike when I pulled the baffles....I would highly advise against pulling the baffles I lost so much performance when I pulled mine it wasn’t worth it for the little bit of decibels I gained
@@KalvinEddie I bought a 2016 Springfield last month, that already had a stage 2 cam upgrade with Tabs. It has medium baffles in now and has a nice low end rumble, without being crazy loud. It came with Zombie baffles too, which the previous owner said to only put them in if you want to piss off your neighbors. He said you could just run the Zombie on one side to get a mix of the medium and Zombie. I’m not sure if that would be good performance wise. I thought about putting Zombies on both sides to check it out but honestly like how it sounds now. It’s my first “big” bike and I’m loving it. I did have a KZ900 back in the day.
Thanks for the review. I was thinking about pulling my zombie baffles out to make my m8 louder but after watching this video and your update I decided to keep then on as well. Do you have after market headers or stock?
No I left it as is after I put the baffles back in.....beginning of this year I put an S&S 475g cam chest kit in and that really gave me a bump in power and decibels

I threw a S&S 475 cam in mine and it made the bike ridiculously loud lol something to think about if you’re looking for volume

Zero baffles = Little to none back pressure and way too hot on the valves!
You’re supposed to cut the baffles down so you still have back pressure.
Did you try to remove the packing from the baffles and put them back in? This may give you the volume you're looking for while maintaining some back pressure to preserve torque (although the baffles are practically straight pipes, so not sure).

Haven’t had the bike dynoed but when I removed the baffles I lost a lot of torque...noticed that right away so I put the baffles back in
Those are not Zombie baffles. Zombies are not wrapped in fiberglass because there is no need for it. Looks like louvered baffles not Zombies to me.

Stock headers on the bike
I have a 2019 RGU with bam sticks and zombie baffles/ fulsac head pipe and tts tuner. Sounds really good. Loud but not too loud. Very deep tone.
All he had to do to start was remove the end caps.
damn @ 2:10 @nattylight and @dcshoes need to pay me lol

Lol ok well that’s what I ordered and these are what tab sent me they’re loud as fuck and I love them thanks for watching 👍🏻
Dyno it gonna burn your engine up .
I had it dynod after I put the cam in it only kept the baffles out for a ride then put them back
Nothing abnormal about the tape.
Is it a perforated, a louver, or straight pipe for a baffle with all that stuff around it? What’s under the masking tape…
It’s like a fiberglass packing it’s a straight pipe if I remember right
