Obviously there is a skill lacking in you guys to effectively row those gears. I’ve owned my manual 2.5ltr 3 hatch for 2yrs and I’ll keep it for a while. Maaan, you are so lucky in Canada that you got the new gen Forte5 GT. I waited almost 3 years for that to release in the US but Kia only gave us the sedan. I had to go with the Elantra GT Sport instead and although it's got more premium features than the Forte5 and the same powerplant, I really prefer the styling of the Kia more. That, and this new gen is almost like a wagon, but the GT Sport still has plenty of room, esp cargo. And the 1.6T is quick for what it is.

@84jdgregory "for what it is" most compacts in the class are slow slow, have a cvt, sub 1.5l & tuned for fuel economy. I'm speaking in relativity, they're about as "quick" as a Mk6.5-Mk7 GLi which isnt terrible for the class. As far as reliability, that GT Sport was the least reliable car I've ever owned lol. My 1.6t had tons of issues, same for the 7spd DCT, & a bunch of qc problems. I'm in an 2023 A4 Allroad Black Optics S-Line & much more happy with reliability, & quality. That GT Sport fwiw had a ton of bang for your buck tho. I paid $21k otd for it CPO back in the day & the list of premium features was a bargain for that price.

I never said it would compete with the Golf R, the Golf R is also more costly as well. According to the times I have seen for the GTI though, I believe the Elantra N will be faster still. To really fit into the right category of base models equalling golf/elantra/3, gti/elantra gt/3 gt; it would need to be gti clubsport/elantra n/ 3 gt with a mild tune.

Mazda went upmarket so the decision to make at the present price points in 2023 is: Luxurious materials, reliability, and refinement of the Mazda 3 or the fun and greater rear seat and cargo space of the Forte GT. Only one will prevail and it's Kia lol Kia is selling way more cars.
I'm also an American desperately wanting the Forte5 but I ordered a 2023 GT Manual sedan. I think it's wild that somehow the USA isn't a viable market for a near-wagon. Too many bullshit crossovers on the road I guess.

forte gt dct is alway the way to go. manual is not really quick. manual does a 6.7sec to 60 and dct is 6.3; dct would've been quicker if it wasn't for the transmission delay from a dig. probably want to protect transmission life or else it would have been under 6 secs.

If you think the mazda wasnt driven well, the Forte was driven worse.
Lesson here: turbo cars are not to be driven like NA cars.
The forte makes peak torque at 1500 rpms, so no need to launch the shit out of it, just give it a little rev..
Neither are WRXs that can handle aggressive launches at take off (fwd).
Forte being turbo, you dont redline it, ideal shifts happen between 5900-6100 rpms, redlining it means it was put outside its powerband briefly with every shift.
This was horrible for both, but mainly for the turbo car.
