    With the performance of the Mazda, on top of it being less money, and their focus on luxury feel/interior... I think I'd have to go with the M3

      Can't go wrong with either of these choices, but that said...I traded in my 2016 GTI SE for a 2021 Mazda 3 turbo premium hatch. Other than reduced visibility in the rear, (rearview mirror is near useless) no regrets...Mazda made a great little car.

      I love them both too. If Mazda had a DSG is would be ridiculous. Still lean more on the VW side since I have one but Mazda is quality no doubt about it

    • @jjchockey
      @jjchockey 3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Really depends what you want. It’s like comparing an Audi A3 to the GTI. The GTI is much more performance oriented. Stiffer suspension, sway bars, bigger brakes, quicker steering rack, LSD, and stickier tires. While the A3 and Mazda are quieter, more comfortable, and more luxurious inside. The Mazda 3 Turbo is not a performance variant.

      I'm German and I'll take the Mazda over the GTI anyday. The looks, the quality, the RELIABILITY.. There is no GTI that can match those criteria.
      I've got an 2014 mazda 3 with over 200000miles and never ever had a single thing failing. It runs like on day one.

    • @jbm0866
      @jbm0866 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@Kevin-rf9sx I don't know about Europe, but in the past few years Mazda's entire lineup has either been tops or near the top for reliability among all car makers, so I agreed...and actually voted with my money by swapping a GTI for a Mazda 3 turbo hatch. My GTI wasnt exactly a reliability nightmare to own, but it was probably second most troublesome car that I've ever owned. Having said that, it only left me stranded once when the factory battery decided to suddenly discharge overnight when it was fine the day before, and then a laundry list of other minor annoyances either related to poor design or factory quality control.

    I have a question actually that I hope someone can answer for me :)
    What determines the top speed of a car?

    • @ChrisMah
      @ChrisMah 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Top speed can be dictated by a couple different factors. In most cases it is the point where the car's horsepower is fully consumed by drag (air resistance) and other types of friction. The faster you go the more drag. So a car that is more aerodynamic can typically go faster for a given amount of horsepower.
      In other situations it will be due to electronic speed limiters that manufacturers put in to keep cars from going too fast.
      It can also be due to gearing.
      And finally in some cases it will hit redline in top gear and simply can't go any faster without better gearing.

      There's nothing wrong with using 87 (at least in the GTI). The car is tuned to handle both octanes (unlike many years prior), however, if you want advertised mileage and performance, 91 is the way to go. It may also improve longevity. I however, always stick to 91 in my GTI :)

    I don't know. Maybe the ECU in that GTi has learned to take it easy based on the way the your mom drives it. The fact that she's running regular in it leads me to believe she doesn't care about squeezing out every last ounce of performance. This matchup should be much closer than this - both cars test 0-60 in 6 seconds and 14.5 1/4 mile, and we're not talking about trying to launch a Hellcat here, the GTi isn't going to spin it's tires all the way down the track...anfd I'm saying this as someone who would choose the Mazda over this GTi. Not over a Golf R though...but throw another 50hp and a better transmission in and it 'd be a tough choice..

    The AWD makes a huge diffrence.I have a 2020 Stinger and out of the box I shame many cars that you would think it could not.If you jump 2 car lengths or so out of the gate--another car would need at least 100 HP or so to catch up.I have my videos on here--I raced 500 plus HP cars last drag and none were able to make up the distance off the line--if you have a RWD car and spin in any way off the line--you will need a ton of HP.I can get hellcats out of the gate and in some cases still ahead at the 1/8--but once it hooks up and 700 HP hits the pavement--all I can do is watch the back end get smaller and smaller.NA american muscle cars like a normal cgallenger 392 just does not have the HP to catch a stinger once it gets 2 or 3 car lengths ahead.Also go look at top speed runs--many german--cars are governed to 155--even many AMG and M cars.Many american muscle cars top out in the 160s also--stingers also have and advantage with a 167 mph top end that is governed--but still faster then many cars.

    • @chuckd7423

      The Stinger is pretty quick, but pretty much every auto magazine that has tested them found that the RWD model was quicker than the AWD model, both in 0-60 and 1/4 times. Most also said the RWD steering was much better, and that it was more agile and fun to drive. I've considered buying a Stinger GT, but I live in Florida, so have no need for AWD vehicles, and would opt for the less expensive RWD version.

I ran those times with no launch control,I live in GA and the AWD helps in thunderstorms we have--like the one I just drove in a few minutes ago.BTW I watched videos and every video I looked at with AWD stingers--2 testers had the car in comfort mode while running laps.I have 100 hours of track time and the stingers AWD--once you go thru the computers becomes a weapon--I can enter turns at several MPH faster then RWD cars and mid turn I can punch it and the computer will bolt the car out of a corner.I also have geomet cross drilled and vented rotors on the car paired with the brembo--and a welded straight pipe exhaust--so i have my car set up for the track without affecting the warranty.My 12.7 was .4 sec faster then a RWD 2019 that was in my stinger club when he ran and my trap speed was 3 mph faster--my 1/8th speed was 2 mph faster.The AWD system is only 140 lbs and they put it in a spot to keep the car balanced.

    What's the point of a drag race from stand still between an awd and a fwd?

  • @housepianist
    @housepianist 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    It seems like all the excitement over the Mazda 3 Turbo being faster than a GTI off the line is more about power application than anything "magical". It's all about the drivetrain configurations: AWD vs FWD. Most AWD vehicles are going to get off the line better than FWD or some RWD vehicles so prepping the GTI with premium fuel to do another race was kind of futile in my opinion. And at the end, everyone declares the 3 Turbo as this super hot hatch.
    I'm not taking anything away from the 3 Turbo. It's a great car. But it's the AWD that made it faster, or "better" or however you want to call it. Now if the 3 Turbo had FWD, it would be a different story, and any race between it, and the GTI, would really show who's the hotter hatch. But in this case, it's the AWD of the 3 Turbo that makes it a "faster" performer than the GTI.
    I'm just saying that maybe more should have been said about Mazda's AWD system and how it puts down the traction better and the benefits of all-wheel traction, etc, and how that was an advantage over the GTI than just thinking, "Oh, I'll put premium gas in the GTI" - like that's going to overcome any drivetrain disadvantage. Just seems a little lame. Sorry, just telling you like it is.
    Next time, bring a WRX and maybe even a Golf R to run against the 3 Turbo. It'll be more even then and we can see just how "hot" the Mazda is.

    • @ronaszegi
