I was going to say for the city one. Unless lava was made to be bigger than spikes (and since you still appear to be able to spike jump I'd guess not) then you should just be able to use the dashless route through the first part.
@@solsystem1342 Lava is indeed bigger than spikes, by around 4 times iirc. However, lava has an interesting property that actually means that you can walljump (and climbjump!) off the sides of the lava blocks without dying, which the creator was unaware of when they recoded this and mistook for cornerkicks off the wall below the lava. Not really sure what you mean about the spikejumps though - 'spikejump' is a very misused term in general and is supposed to refer to being pushed or blown into spikes allowing you to jump off the wall behind their hitbox. However many people often call cornerjumps/5jumps/cornerkicks spikejumps when they actually have a different name.
@@shayne3005 Cornerkicks on spiked walls are definitely spikejumps, in fact they're the most pure form of spikejump in my opinion. Madeline's hitbox intersects the spikes' hitbox and Madeline jumps. If that's not a spikejump, nothing is.

Would you be interested in me going through the chapters and working out how many can be removed within human capabilities and/or if you allow TAS? We can even make a follow up video on it if you'd be interested!
This challenge was mainly done for fun, I don't really plan on doing a follow up honestly as I have many more fun projects and games I want to work on. But I'm not holding anyone back from trying to do better on this challenge, I just can't upload the current map because of how buggy some parts still are (like me having to manually tp to the previous room with debug every time I die because the spawn point in that room is technically cheating)
ISsue in Chapter 3 is a common thing when makers make vanilla maps. All vanilla maps select the color and visual behavior of "spinners" on a per-map basis. Becuase your map isn't the vanilla map, it doesn't make those changes
in room 2, you can get past the spikes by climb jumping straight up followed by a climb jump over. the momentum from the first jump is enough to get by without using a dash
I would recommend if you are doing challenges like these in the future, to definitely download the speedrun tool, as it allows you to savestate anywhere in the current room and prevents the repetitive grind of certain boring sections. Otherwise, great video, even though a lot of these cheat platforms didn't have to be used. Also as a fun fact, lava works exactly like normal walls (not ground), and you can do basically any and all tech from it as long as you do it within a certain time window. :)
Very cool challenge idea ! I can see tiny improvements, though they would make things a lot harder. The main idea resides in the fact that lava actually has a wall hitbox, that happens to extend 1 pixel further laterally than the death hitbox, making it possible to actually wall climb or wall jump on lava with high precision. I think a lot of cheating blocks could be avoided using this but hey, it really depends if you're willing to grind pixel perfect placements on the hard rooms (depending on the speed going towards lava the difficulty can vary, because being slower means more frames available for the right pixel, to which we can add the buffer frames)
i got some tips for later use. You can actually wall jump from lava, if you jump before you hit the lava, though it’s pretty precise. You can also execute a ceiling pop. It is a jump under a ceiling achieved by holding on a wall that connects to a ceiling from the bottom of the wall, holding down diagonally towards the direction you want to go, and jumping at the perfect time. Suggest watching a tutorial for both of them.
I'm probably not grandmaster but am fairly experienced with this game (I did do Farewell deathless though so idk), and can already see a few that can be removed. A player much better than me could probably see even more though
The challenge looks extremely hardcore with an extremely cool idea. However not only the challenge is cool, the video with the explanation is awesome too.
1:46 I beat this room without the helper block with 4 deaths ._. edit: You can actually beat it without any helper blocks and got all the berries :) edit2: I did notice that a few screen transitions no longer have lava, so some berries might not have been possible I the older version but even in the old version 2:55 is still possible with a crouch dash into a corner kick to keep the dash from the screen transition
This video is problamatic mostly because you forgot to mention that you can't beat 5A at all because once you enter the mirror and start falling, you touch the floor, and that isn't a cutscene because you can't skip it. You have to beat the b-side to contuie because that section is impossible because the game doesn't consider that falling segment as a cutscene,
this is an awesome video!! It just reminds me of how much fun it is playing through celeste for the first time. The challenge isn't in just executing a difficult series of moves, it's also about figuring out what moves those are in the first place Just beating the level is equally as satisfying as figuring out what you're supposed to do to get there (as if solving a puzzle).
The first cheat block is actually skippable. Normal dashless strats shouldn't work, but due to weird coding jank, you actually can perform walljumps off of lava. Including ones that require the grab. It's insane, but possible. The second one can be solved with another lavagrab. The third one is the same as the second. The fourth one might be able to be saved with a Cpop. I couldn't get it, but I wasn't trying very hard. The fifth one is seemingly frame perfect, but can also be saved, theoretically, with a Cpop. 6 and 7 can be done just with clever routing and by going back onto the platforms that you came from and dodging under Badeline. The eighth is the same as the second. The first room of the second button is not possible as far as I know. The second room of the second button is easily possible just by doing it first. The exit of the second button is easily possible the same way as the second room. The first room of the third button is not possible as far as I know. The fourth room of the third button is possible with a demo dash followed by a Cpop on the books along the left wall. The first button is easily possible as the last button. The first block of the long room is skippable with a corner jump. This is as far as I wanna go. If somebody wants to continue this, including me at a later date, you can.
Chapter 1: - you realize that lava is a climbable surface right? you absolutely can beat the room you got stuck on by 5jumping off the lava, same as what you'd do in a chapter 1 no dash clear. Chapter 2: - the first stuck should be doable with two corner jumps. depending on how proficient you are at corner jumps that's doable. - same applies to the first instance of the badeline chase sequence - you might be able to reach that switch by doing a precise wavedash at the left end of the switch gate and therefore going under the thing then using your dash to reach the touch switch, but i'm not sure how you'd get out of there. If you had replaced the floor with lava instead of placing lava over the floor, you'd then be able to corner kick out I think? - won't ask about the big badeline room Chapter 3: - what if you tried corner kicking the screen transition in that first room? I think you'd still die, but worth checking - second room, lava is a climbable surface. i don't remember the exact hitbox, but I think it's possible to corner jump between the lava and spinners. - you can climb those stairs by neutralling off the lava into corner jump - that demo isn't impossible, especially with how much horizontal space you have to work with when aiming, also, I'm, like, 70% sure you could've just wallbounced over that? - that long room with lava floor looks possible. I think you neutral off the wall to the right, jump off the lava, corner jump off the lava, that's part 1. Don't remember what the rest of the room looks like and footage didn't show. By the time you reach chapter 4, it becomes difficult to see stuff because you gloss over a lot. But yeah, I think there's a lot possible that you missed.
also want to say that i'm not saying this as a criticism or anything. not the best with tone and it's currently, like, 3am where i'm at so especially not good at tone rn. and my main criticism of your run is that you didn't seem to realize that lava is a climbable surface in celeste, which tbf is neither common nor intuitive knowledge.
Some more stuff may be possible with a very precise trick, a lava cornerboost. There’s tutorials that explain how to cornerboost if you’re unsure how to, but if Madeline is on the top 1/4 of the top pixel of the hitbox of a lava block, you can perform a subpixel perfect lava cornerboost. Might make some rooms possible without more cheat blocks, if you’re willing to slam your head against a lava block for a few minutes!
The first cheat block in chapter 1 can be avoided as you can climb the top side of the T shape platform, then jump, and then jump again as soon as you possibly can and move forward.
bro the first time you use a cheat block you say "its completely impossible to get over these spikes without using it(the dash)", but, there is literally a challenge to do 1a dashless in which that jump is performed dashless, like, fr bro
When did I say this? I'm just wrong. The lava kill you before you finish the tech. I literally have no recollection of watching this video, let alone making this comment. -sincerely Uel
Bit of a correction for how jumping off lava works The lava is a tile like every other tile the only difference is that if your 2 hitboxes intersect it wmill kill you So in core you can jump up all of the lava walls as long as your not holding any direction same with a wall bounce
You can actually jump off 1 pixel of Lava :3 so with a bit of precision room 2 should be possible with a corner boost, same way you would beat it for winged golden
Your gaming is insane for me. Like, I wasnt able to figure out myself for, like, 10 minutes, how in chapter 4 you needed to use that block from the side to get over the spikes in almost the start, before the mega wind is starts. Yep. Welp.
Also there is a mod that the mayday man made and you can actually beat all of the rooms and get all the berries but it require insane tricks like a wave dash into a cpop in places like the 2nd to last badeline chase (it was done with a tas but with enough attempts i was able to do it) the mod is still in development though and chapter 3 may need changing in some places he said
I think almost all of the blocks (I have only seen chapter 1 and 2) can be done by doing cpops (a subpixel perfect tech) and even more spikejumps, also, you are able to do even more horizontal momentum after climbing, the easier option is to climb jump Up and then jump to the direction of the spikes while holding grab and falling from the previous jump (is kinda complicsted) but gg anyways, this are some exp and gm techs
Ok, you did not need a cheat block in room 2 of Forsaken City. I have experience with doing dashless 1A, and it is actually possible to get through that spike gap without dashing. Grab the left side of the block the spikes are on, jump straight up, and right as madelines feet hit the ground, jump again, that should get enough altitude to clear the spikes. Good luck :)
2:08 neutral wall jump to corner spike jump, it's not that bad, i made a bunch of them in my first mod, you can clear 6 tiles this way even. that's only 5 tiles here.
If you do another Celeste "is it possible" challenge, it might help to have the Speedrun Tool mod so you can save state different areas. I think most people use the save states to practice difficult segments of a room before clearing it from the start, but use it however you feel
for the part of the summit where there's downwind, you can actually jump on the lava cause funny downwind effect, thereby removing all cheat blocks. it's tas only tho
I dont think thats possible. The only reason why wind-spikes are a thing, is because the death hitbox get ignored until madeline lands on the ground. Spikes have a transparent hitbox, you couldnt jump of off the spikes themselves. But for lava? I could be wrong, but as far as I know, lava acts like a wall, but not like a floor. And with no actual ground to touch, it would be impossible to do wind-spikes
I might be wrong here but can't you just corner jump for city room 2 and some other places? It's your challenge so honestly you do you, it's still sick
I'm curious if the b sides require more or less cheat blocks? Since they unlock the next chapter and actually don't require as many rooms as you'd think in 5b's case because of strats like bub's drop.
15:03 wouldn't an extended hyper off the zipper, neutrals up to the top, and then a late wallbounce off the top wall and late horizontal dash be enough? I'm not sure about this though Also, pleaaase release this as a mod, it seems pretty fun especially with a few dialog modifications (kind of like what the etseleC mod does)
A few clarifications because I'm sure I'll get comments about these:
-When you see floor not being lava, it's intended like for example:
at 1:55 there is a door that I unlocked in that spot
and 12:40 is part of a floating island spanning across 3 rooms
-I really tried my best to not place unnecessary blocks, however I'd not be surprised if a more skilled player finds a clever strat to cut some out
-Because spawn points often messed up (they're usually placed on the floor) I made myself spawn in the room before, right next to the screen transition so I have to re-enter and retry. Otherwise I could've abused my deaths and respawns to skip hard sections
-The map was custom made and isn't available for download, since a lot of things are wonky and broken still
-Last but not least, this was made for fun, and the goal of the video was to be an enjoyable watch :)
If you could release the completely broken map I think someone would be able to go into ahorn or lönn and patch it up
at 15:03 you can save a dash in that room by hypering over to the wall and doing some neutrals to get up, then you've saved a dash for the exit.

- what if you tried corner kicking the screen transition in that first room? I think you'd still die, but worth checking
- second room, lava is a climbable surface. i don't remember the exact hitbox, but I think it's possible to corner jump between the lava and spinners.

you're very underrated and make amazing content, keep it up :)
This video was super entertaining! I'm super glad i stumbled across this video and I hope i stumble across some more! :D
I need this map right now, my monkey brain sees a bunch of ways to save blocks
you can save like 50% of cheat blocks
Goddamn how are you this underrated you've got some awesome video ideas.
6:26 that was not a corner jump
That thumbnail is *chef kiss.
All of chapter 1 can be done dashless. You can save your dash in room 2. -sincerely Uel
When did I say this? I'm just wrong. The lava kill you before you finish the tech. I literally have no recollection of watching this video, let alone making this comment. -sincerely Uel
Bit of a correction for how jumping off lava works
The lava is a tile like every other tile the only difference is that if your 2 hitboxes intersect it wmill kill you
So in core you can jump up all of the lava walls as long as your not holding any direction same with a wall bounce
1:59 , that jump is possible if you do 2 walljump quickly
Would you look at that, Checkpoint 1 of the Summit is actually the final challenge this time
You can actually jump off 1 pixel of Lava :3 so with a bit of precision room 2 should be possible with a corner boost, same way you would beat it for winged golden
Dang, youre really showing off with all these Expanded Techniques~
This video is just right
Good job, Ben
10:00 So, in this alternate world does Theo just... die here?
in room 2, 1:46, it is possible to skip across the spikes without a dash. Watch how chapter 1 dashless room 2 get across.
But i think he placed the spikes on top of the lava, so it's 1 block higher.
This video is absolutely awesome! I hope you get lots of views!
with lava blocks you can jump off the side of them so if you just dont touch it you can jump over it like how you do in chapter 1 dashless
so much dedication, wow (cool video btw)
Your gaming is insane for me. Like, I wasnt able to figure out myself for, like, 10 minutes, how in chapter 4 you needed to use that block from the side to get over the spikes in almost the start, before the mega wind is starts. Yep. Welp.
Also there is a mod that the mayday man made and you can actually beat all of the rooms and get all the berries but it require insane tricks like a wave dash into a cpop in places like the 2nd to last badeline chase (it was done with a tas but with enough attempts i was able to do it) the mod is still in development though and chapter 3 may need changing in some places he said
in 15:03 you have to wave dash to get in the wall then use the dash to get in the wall, jump and reach the exit
Room 2 is actually possible, with a welltimed spikejump you can make it over the gap without using a dash
Good luck :)
my guess is exactly 100 cheat blocks for all chapters including farewell.
YOU DIDNT NEED THE CHEAT BLOCK IN ROOM 2 CHAPTER 1!!!!!!!!
2:08 neutral wall jump to corner spike jump, it's not that bad, i made a bunch of them in my first mod, you can clear 6 tiles this way even. that's only 5 tiles here.
this is needed to be a map tbh, i want to try it without the blocks
I would love to see a tas or something with the same goal. I am sure that it could save a few of these
If you do another Celeste "is it possible" challenge, it might help to have the Speedrun Tool mod so you can save state different areas.
@DarkCoreX i've done two jumps in a row, there seems to be some rythm
Hello Star Core
1:59 if you climb and jump, then jump imediately you can get past here ez without cheating.
would love to see you try the b and c sides like this
Your content is so good :)
Room number two is acctully possible Because you can grab on the top then jump twiceand grab on to the edge and dash
Same challenge but B sides would be like: nothing changes
dude this challenge looks kinda fun but also annoying
6:28 Or you can use the water, Mr. Genius. 6:42 Can’t you just dash out of the room?
Btw you can just jump off the lava sides if you are close enough to it
Ben that was so so cool ur so skilled
2:26 you can use corner jump to save dash
capter 1 can be beten by never tuching the ground so you dident need that block
I got so annoyed by room 2 YOU CAN WALL JUMP OFF OF THE LAVA.
That’s about twice as good as my normal run
1:24 you weren't jumping off the floor
you can just straight up wall jump off lava
Of course it’s possible! It’s Celeste!
I might be wrong here but can't you just corner jump for city room 2 and some other places? It's your challenge so honestly you do you, it's still sick
Also you can neutral jump up a lava wall
Just found out about channel, great video!
Little question: can a demo dash be performed diagonally?
Obviously for an use like passing thru spikes not Just Messing around
Hold on doesn't dashless get past that obstacle in that second city room without a dash?
Chapter 3 chase, more like 3B
This looks really hard
Average strawberry jam beginer map
I'm curious if the b sides require more or less cheat blocks? Since they unlock the next chapter and actually don't require as many rooms as you'd think in 5b's case because of strats like bub's drop.
15:03 wouldn't an extended hyper off the zipper, neutrals up to the top, and then a late wallbounce off the top wall and late horizontal dash be enough? I'm not sure about this though
Also, pleaaase release this as a mod, it seems pretty fun especially with a few dialog modifications (kind of like what the etseleC mod does)
Is the dashless strat not possible in room 2 or does the lava get in the way
less deaths than my farewell completion
Make this a mod where you can get all berries too
why has this guy only got 2K subs
So,now you need to beat 8C 74 times😈
erm actually bars are the floor because lonn says so (idk if you menrioned that i didnt watch the start)
next is US election d-side without touching the ground
