Chapter 6 has part of Chapter 8 since Badeline says “I could dig deeper. I could drag us down to the center of the earth.” and that's what she does, she literally takes you to the center of the earth
That's partly why I like it so much, you can choose when to stop when it gets to challenging, or if you want to keep getting better you can play harder and harder chapters!
And D sides are not even close to where celeste mods stop. The community uses a special ranking system to determine the difficulties of maps, and there are two difficulties harder than the D sides. D sides are expert (aside from 9D), and there’s grandmaster and grandmaster +1 above it. I absolutely love this game.
maybe true, but I think there are different skillsets for celeste compared to getting over it as a very inconsistent person, the short but hard rooms of celeste are much easier than long rooms that are not as tough (e.g. farewell final, 7D final, maybe getting over it). even very long rooms become much easier with savestate practice. celeste feels like a rhythm game to me
In ch 6, the lava being there is a reference to the fact that in the main story (a side) badeline states something along the lines of “I could just keep digging to the center of the earth”
You can do it! If you make it to farewell you have the skills to beat it! (Trust me as someone who died... a lot). Like I'm pretty sure it was at least 5000 (That's way above the average I think)

The "getting over it" section is not that bad. You get your dash back when you go through a screen transition, allowing you to immediately dash back up to the screen you just fell from.
awesome video! I've spent well over 500 hours now in these maps... to see them in a well edited format after all this time is jarring to say the least LOL but it was very nostalgic. Reminded me what it was like to go through these maps for the first time way back in the day. I'd also like to say that I've played a lot of various extremely hard platforming challenges and I think it's worth noting that I don't think there is a single map out there you'll find better than 9D. So much love was put into it. The creator of the maps herself actually went and did all of the segments of the map deathless to look for things to change and improve upon. It is quite possibly the greatest work of art platforming as a whole may ever see. And so few people will ever fully see it. I hope one day you decide to check it out.

Alrighty firstly, majorly underrated channel, secondly, holy crap, this is insanely impressive! I’ve beaten all of Celeste, but I feel this would truly destroy me if I attempted it. Major props to ya! Personally, I would love to see chapter 8 and 9 D-sides, but only do what you can mentally take! Amazing video, can’t wait to see more!
I beat the D-sides a while back so here are my stats for comparison 1D: 986 Deaths 2:22:44 2D: 1264 Deaths 3:22:32 (2 hours on the final room) 3D: 710 Deaths 2:30:05 (this level has been majorly nerfed since this video was released) 4D: 2045 Deaths 6:22:09 (some time/deaths were from repeating the first few rooms) 5D: 1478 Deaths 5:55:27 6D: 4724 Deaths 11:49:20 (I hate feathers I hate bumpers I hate feathers I hate bumpers) 7D: 11879 Deaths 32:40:51 (12 hours on final checkpoint and 1 death at the last input of flag 2) 8D: 2824 Deaths 7:59:52 (definitely easier than the last 2 and a lot of time was spent trying to get the moon berry) Final Goodbye: 24967 Deaths 68:14:12 (14 hours on the final room with no savestates, it took nearly 3 months to beat the final room and nearly 10 months to beat the whole level, still 10/10)
8D was my least favourite chapter by a long shot imo. I thought it was harder than 6D by a lot because so many of the rooms felt near impossible to do because of how damn inconsistent they were. The feather room near the end made me want to quit the entire chapter honestly.
Love seeing more Celeste modded content on youtube, entertaining video and good job on finishing the d sides ! (Also i would totally recommend playing through 9d at some point, its one of the coolest and most beautiful journeys you can take in modded celeste and i think could make for a very awesome video)
Yo it's the man himself! I've admittedly not looked at 8D or 9D at all but I'll keep it in mind. I've just heard horror stories of people taking 200 hours to beat 9D. Bet this looked like chump change compared to the stuff you've beaten haha

This probably won’t be happening considering how this video is 7 months old, but if you do ever plan on completing 9 D side, it is 2 and a half hours long, making it 5 times longer than normal farewell.
as someone super active in celeste modding, this was actually super entertaining to watch, great job on this :3c massive congrats on taking down the monster that is 7d, i remember exactly how i felt when beating it for the very first time 2 years ago just like parrot said, if you are ever convinced to do 9d, be prepared for one of if not the Longest, hardest, and greatest journeys you can take in Celeste :3

9d is so worth doing, it's like an actual journey (and will take you as long as all the other d sides combined) but it is probably my favourite ever celeste mod
I think the reason it gets fired in chapter 6 is because Badeline (the dark version of madline) jokingly says she can make things worse and dig the figurative hole deeper taking her and Madeline to the figurative center of the earth the d side takes this literally
If u ever plan to play Celeste again, I highly suggest to beat a map called Waterbear Mountain. It starts with a summit section which isn’t quite as difficult as 7D, but then it goes into a chapter 9 section which is a bit more difficult than 7D while not being absolutely insane. The map is easily my favorite mod in all of Celeste. It’s also not as difficult or long as 9D so it could serve as a really good preparation if u ever plan to do 9D (the completion video for every room in 9D is 2 hours and a half btw lol. Waterbear is only about an hour).
six months later: I've done 1D through 8D and a bit of 9D, though Monika released a new 3D between Evan's 3D clear and the video's release, and it's a *lot* easier (its golden is as hard as Raspberry Roots golden while 3Dark / old 3D compares to Mango Mesa, and Monika's confirmed that it wasn't *supposed* to just be a random difficulty spike at any point) I was still probably underprepared for it; these are Expert (except maybe the hardest parts of 7D and 9D might be GM) so I ended up taking 15 hours on 7D...

The D-Sides were indeed my first mod, but I had gotten most golden strawberries in the base game so it's not like I was completely unprepared. I'm actually in the middle of my playthrough through the 2020 Spring Collab on twitch right now and am thoroughly enjoying it :)

Come on,you NEED to do chapter 8 and 9,9 is the best chapter,with the best level design,the most original stuff,new mod only mecchanics,and even story! As someone who has seen and played a lot of Celeste, both vanilla and with mods, Monika’s D-Sides contains some of the hardest stuff in Celeste mods period. Congratulations on conquering the Summit of this dreadful mountain. Fun Fact: There’s a couple mods that change 7D, being 1D7D, which make’s enough changes to the level to make it possible to beat with only one dash, and D7D1, which like how Etselec reverses base Celeste, reverses 7D while keeping the changes to make it possible with 1 dash. As you can expect, both of these mods are absolutely insane. In fact D7D1 contains the single hardest room in all of modded Celeste that is possible.
@@EvanBreaksGames bad idea. I have seen some that made it in around 150-60 hours at that one screen,and it's not a fun one. It takes sub-pixel precision and in some parts it's just luck.
@EvanBreaksGamess haha yeah. it's also fun as hell to speed run. Celeste is like the only pure platformer that I consistently play. I've always loved Mario rom hacks (I write asm for the community) and maker, but I have never been able to get a hang of the physics of those games. Meanwhile, I've beat and speedran some of the hardest Celeste mods (maybe its keyboard vs controller dunno)... go figure. Great video, mate.
I recently played through the D sides for the first time myself and I really loved this video. I can tell a lot of work was put into making this. You're really underrated and I hope this video blows up so people can see your other content too because it's really great, keep up the good work! (also I know this has been said a lot already but you should really try 9D out lol)
amazing video. this actually inspired (i think that is the right word) me to go ahead and beat the d sides. it took around 35 hours but i did end up beating 7d. great mod and gg.

Celeste is kinda funny in how people find various stages of difficulty to settle for. Personally, I am fine having beat the full game + Farewell, gotten all C sides and a few goldens as well (C side goldens don't count in my book, C sides are more or less single stage deathless anyway). Then you have the people who do 202 berries. Then you have the ones who do D sides, like Evan. I am comfortable saying that Evan is probably a better gamer than I ever could have been. Hats off to you Evan. Then you have Eenox, who did 7D GOLDEN. Yeah............... He did that.......
Stumbled this on my recommendations and I was entertained til the end. I finished Celeste and it has been one of my favorite gsmes ever. I complege B sides but stuck at C side chapter 4. Makes me want to play the game again. Congrats man!

Going through the B, C, and D sides slowly change Celeste from a fun challenge into Getting Over It.

9d is so worth doing, it's like an actual journey (and will take you as long as all the other d sides combined) but it is probably my favourite ever celeste mod

I think the reason it gets fired in chapter 6 is because Badeline (the dark version of madline) jokingly says she can make things worse and dig the figurative hole deeper taking her and Madeline to the figurative center of the earth the d side takes this literally
If u ever plan to play Celeste again, I highly suggest to beat a map called Waterbear Mountain. It starts with a summit section which isn’t quite as difficult as 7D, but then it goes into a chapter 9 section which is a bit more difficult than 7D while not being absolutely insane. The map is easily my favorite mod in all of Celeste. It’s also not as difficult or long as 9D so it could serve as a really good preparation if u ever plan to do 9D (the completion video for every room in 9D is 2 hours and a half btw lol. Waterbear is only about an hour).

I never got all the golden strawberries, but I'd definitely recommend beating chapter 9 before trying the D-Sides
six months later: I've done 1D through 8D and a bit of 9D, though Monika released a new 3D between Evan's 3D clear and the video's release, and it's a *lot* easier (its golden is as hard as Raspberry Roots golden while 3Dark / old 3D compares to Mango Mesa, and Monika's confirmed that it wasn't *supposed* to just be a random difficulty spike at any point)
I was still probably underprepared for it; these are Expert (except maybe the hardest parts of 7D and 9D might be GM) so I ended up taking 15 hours on 7D...

curious to know if you've beaten any other celeste mods before trying out d-sides, since (as you probably know now) they are _very_ difficult if you haven't familiarized yourself with the game's physics
if you're looking for some more mod recommendations, either chill and easy or hard and nightmarish, i'd recommend watching parrot dash's video on it (looks like he commented on your video as well, parrot if you're reading this hi lol), but the mod i'd recommend the most would be the celeste 2020 spring collab if you haven't played it
congrats again on beating 7d, i remember it took me >24h to beat it for the first time, haha
The D-Sides were indeed my first mod, but I had gotten most golden strawberries in the base game so it's not like I was completely unprepared.

As someone who has seen and played a lot of Celeste, both vanilla and with mods, Monika’s D-Sides contains some of the hardest stuff in Celeste mods period. Congratulations on conquering the Summit of this dreadful mountain.
Fun Fact: There’s a couple mods that change 7D, being 1D7D, which make’s enough changes to the level to make it possible to beat with only one dash, and D7D1, which like how Etselec reverses base Celeste, reverses 7D while keeping the changes to make it possible with 1 dash. As you can expect, both of these mods are absolutely insane. In fact D7D1 contains the single hardest room in all of modded Celeste that is possible.
Very interesting, I'll definitely have to check those out sometime (just to watch not play haha)

@@EvanBreaksGames bad idea. I have seen some that made it in around 150-60 hours at that one screen,and it's not a fun one. It takes sub-pixel precision and in some parts it's just luck.

I love Celeste. It goes from the hardest game that anyone can beat with some patience to pure brutality. And the fantastic mod scene adds so much.

@EvanBreaksGamess haha yeah. it's also fun as hell to speed run. Celeste is like the only pure platformer that I consistently play. I've always loved Mario rom hacks (I write asm for the community) and maker, but I have never been able to get a hang of the physics of those games. Meanwhile, I've beat and speedran some of the hardest Celeste mods (maybe its keyboard vs controller dunno)... go figure. Great video, mate.
I recently played through the D sides for the first time myself and I really loved this video. I can tell a lot of work was put into making this. You're really underrated and I hope this video blows up so people can see your other content too because it's really great, keep up the good work! (also I know this has been said a lot already but you should really try 9D out lol)

Celeste is kinda funny in how people find various stages of difficulty to settle for. Personally, I am fine having beat the full game + Farewell, gotten all C sides and a few goldens as well (C side goldens don't count in my book, C sides are more or less single stage deathless anyway). Then you have the people who do 202 berries. Then you have the ones who do D sides, like Evan. I am comfortable saying that Evan is probably a better gamer than I ever could have been. Hats off to you Evan. Then you have Eenox, who did 7D GOLDEN. Yeah............... He did that.......

Stumbled this on my recommendations and I was entertained til the end. I finished Celeste and it has been one of my favorite gsmes ever. I complege B sides but stuck at C side chapter 4. Makes me want to play the game again. Congrats man!
