Your grand fathers doing well to be doing all that at 90 good for him and so special to have him work with you. Grand fathers are the best
To see something like this come out of a garage is just mind blowing when you think about it. To have access to all the tools needed, let alone possessing the skill set to use them correctly is just such a wonder to watch. You have convinced me that I need to up my game and I've started learning to 3d model so I can get parts cut rather than hacking at them with a grinder. Thanks for the inspiration, you've earned all the praise you receive.
Congrats, I bet it's a great feeling.
Cheers Seth, very cool that you've been inspired to 3D model :)
credit to your grand father helping out! 90 years old and moves quicker than most young tradies. Love the videos, keep it up man 🤟🏼
ha, very fortunate to still have him and especially lucky to have him helping out!
This build is vlowing my mind a bit
Hands down the best aus built 4x4 on TH-cam. Unreal mate

You’ve been meticulous and thoughtful throughout the build…keep it up! Cant wait for the interior fit -out; one word tho…”dynamat” & lots of it. Rock on 🤘
Or 'Carbuilders' and lots of it lol

I love the colorscheme!! I went RAL 1001 with black and red accents. The color of your springs is epic 😍 Im also finishing my build to do my first big trip 😃
Your build looks amazing and I like it more then the Patriot FJ49 😅
Cheers Victor. I have been watching your videos, looks like your unimog gets some good use. What a fantastic rig.
@@DesignedandBuilt thanks! I'm getting there. Diesel heater is the current project. And next week the kildwick composting toilet comes in and somewhere this month 2x 100ah lithium 😁
Looking really good mate not long now it be on the road 👍😁👍 I used the same paint on my 45s in green 4 years ago and it's still looks fresh even now and it's out in the weather all the time I hardly clean it... my new project 47 extra cab I will use the same paint again but I don't know what colour yet
Thats awesome to hear it's going to withstand the test of time!
Mate.... have been watching from the start. This is unreal! Well done mate. Looking forward to the next vid.
Thanks Adam
Love this series. Great to see it coming together after all that hard work. I hope you've already got new project ideas for keeping this channel going once this rig is done, can't wait!
Cheers Teon, thinking something that is easier on the hip pocket like a trailer/canopy! I'll put some videos up of the rig in action as well.
Looks awesome!!! Keep up the great work.
Cheers Aaron.
This rig is unreal dude!! Can't wait to see it finished and driving 🤙🤙
Thank you!!!
Outstanding mate outstanding
Cheers James :)

Excellent colour choice love your detail and work.
Cheers James!
Looks absolutely beautiful..well done
🙌
Looks SO good! Love the color choice!
Thank you !
Looks awesome, job well done 👍its going to look great once finished
Cheers Matt.
Love it mate, doimg such a good Job.if I can be picky 1. Put a bracket on your turbo lines before your drive belt eats them 2. Make sure that airbox is sealed with a rubber seal and proper silastic before u dunk it in water crossing, and make sure u have diff breathers and fabricate up one for the zf. All that aside I love it 😀
Be picky, I can handle suggestions and all of those are good ones. I was just waiting on some P Clips for the line holder. Roger on the airbox and breathers.
Painted my 47 in the same colour i think its the pick of the factory colours. Im undecided on the same colour roof 🤔 though. Definitely looking the goods 👌
I think so as well! Haha yeah the roof is controversial, but I think it will look good once theres some more contrasting bits.
ive watched every ep! and you have done an amazing job in every aspect... it looks amazing
Thank you :)
One of the best car series I've ever seen on TH-cam.
Love the channel and the content I can’t wait for the next project great work 👍👍👍👍👍
Haha thank you, next projects will be slightly smaller scale!
You should drill pin holes in the bottom of tie down points to drain water and stop rush
They already have them mate!
Man this thing looks awesome 🤩
I think I’ll be sad when the build is over, make sure you get some off-road content 👌
Cheers Quintin, we'll film a few adventures for sure!
👍
Mate looking at your video hope once assembled it can fit under the roller door? But looks awesome
No it can't! Slight problem that we'll have to overcome.
How did you fit it out the roller door? Looks tight! Such a great job you should be very proud mate!
You’ll see in the next episode!
Paint the roof white and infra red blocking tint if you dont want to run aircon
I'm running aircon mate!
Terrific episode on the build mate. Very nice. Interested in the tie downs you used. Any specs? WLL etc? Also where'd u get them please. Cheers mate awesome channel
Straight from ebay, rated to 900 kgs each. Thank you!
Looks epic, love the tray, id like to build something like that for my GU. Also where did you get the pipe sander?
You can get them from sydney tools/ total tools etc. They aren't cheap...... You can get cheaper grinder attachments which aren't quite as good but need a variable speed grinder.
Sorry if it's come up before. Where are the intercooler pipe work barbs from? I.e the ridged bits that hold the hose better.
They are from Geordie stainless. If I did it again not sure that I would use it, pretty heavy and I think using a bead roller would be better!
When it comes time for me to drive away in something like this, I'll be on the youtube channel
Bought not Built, because there is no way I could do any of this work.
Haha get out there and give it a go mate!
Hey buddy do u make and sell the tube frame guards as a kit
Hi will you put a roll bar inside front of cab: or will the tray bar be enough
Tray bar will be enough!
What made you go Barra over LS or any other diesel engine. I'm about to do a resto as well and thinking about doing 80 chassis with barra like yours. Any tips?
I go over it in early episodes! I6’s are better than v8s in probably every way except for the exhaust note, they are a much more efficient engine fundamentally. A diesel conversion is big dollars! Barras are cheap reliable power and easy to get parts for.
Will you be doing any sound deadening inside the cab?
Absolutely!
Does it fit out the carport looks tight
Nope :(
Grouse episode once again :)
Cheers Coolen!
I'm super interested to see what this weighs at the end & if your gvm will be determined by the 80 series chassis (2960kg) or end up with more in engineering process.
Cheers
I'm interested as well mate, I think it will be just over 2T with accessories.
@@DesignedandBuilt just for reference a 80 series is 2T tare weight, no accessorys & no fuel so it will be very interesting
Definitely not a straight forward one for the engineer regarding the GVM but never hurts to ask him the question.
The 10% increase seem generally pretty standard but axle loads still apply so weight distribution becomes critical.
However I just got my GQ upgraded from 2800kg to 3300kg simply because I have GU diffs and brakes (and a full hd kit of suspension arms).
If I didn't ask the question I would have only got upgraded to 3080kg.
Thanks for that Benny! Good info
@@DesignedandBuilt
No worries. At the end of the day it's up to the engineer but if you can respectfully and intelligently point them in a direction you never know.
Unfortunately he wasn't willing to budge on the 50mm wheel track increase of the GQ which meant staying with standard offset wheels as the GU diff is 50mm wider than the GQ.
I hope this doesn't cause your build any issue.
Dimes..
How much does the tray weigh you reckon
Somewhere between 150-200kgs
First
I think just over 2T. I'll get it on the scales once its driving!
Too much has gone into this build to use those latches on the access door
Yeah fair, they are average..... I was rushing and wanted to weld on and couldn't source something better.
