    Looking good mate. Wish i had as much time to get in the garage and finish my 4jj1 GQ swap.
    I am far from an expert (i wish i had one on hand some times to ask questions like what im about to say) but i like to look how things are built by oem's vs the 'over engineering' of the after market industry. And also understand that making pressed parts like those spring seats isnt really an option for the after market let alone diy. Hence the use of 3-5mm plate welded up to make brackets to then get welded to a 3-5mm fish plate to get welded to the 2-3mm chassis rail.
    Sorry getting carried away. My observation with your diff conversion jig is i dont believe there are any welds on the factory brackets that touch or cross the seam of the diff tubes.
    This is where i would like the 'expert' to ask but i feel like there is a reason for this.
    From what i could see it is just your lower link brackets that do this but looks like they would be plenty strong enough to cut them a little shorter to avoid crossing over the seam.
    Again not a criticism, you are doing an epic job.

    • @DesignedandBuilt
      @DesignedandBuilt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Benny, wouldn't really make a difference to be honest, barely had to grind over any weld seam and the housing + weld is super thick. The new design of the bracket will be much stronger!

    Question : why not a patrol chassis from the beginning ?

    • @DesignedandBuilt
      @DesignedandBuilt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Inferior chassis mate! The mechanical design and strength is much better on an 80 series.

  • @husq2100
    @husq2100 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great work! I’ll add a few observations and hopefully won’t get labeled a “hater”
    Given the amount of custom work you have already done, why not custom triangulated 4 link or long links at least.
    Centred diffs are a compromise off road, especially if the front is different to the rear.
    While a welding procedure will go a good way to help with distortion, I feel the table is not an accurate way to check. (For example what if it’s already bent?) Machine some pucks for the carrier bearing locations in a cast 3rd and use a true bar to be sure.

    • @husq2100
      @husq2100 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ha! No 4 link due to packaging , I did wonder that 👍

    • @DesignedandBuilt
      @DesignedandBuilt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey mate, some valid points there for sure, you’re probably right that you can realistically only measure off the ends to check if it is completely true. I think the table gives use a good way of measuring the delta before and after welding if it distorts a lot, probably wouldn’t pick up small distortion but gives us a reasonable gauge!
