  • I finished this K390 knife not to long ago and I just wanted to make a slight comparison to the one I did 3 years ago in Vanax. The Vanax is 60hrc and the K390 is 64hrc.

Thank you. Kitchen knives I believe are out of my depth. It’s good to have some recommendations.

bloody meat will make an excellent patina on carbon steel (dont know about K390 specifically though) gives nice blues purples

Yes, this will be a predominately meat knife. The Patina should come out really nice. I have been using my K390 knife on and off now for more than a couple of months and the patina just looks like a slight oily sheen. Just by seeing how much staining there is on my mom’s knife so far I believe her knife will have a much stronger patina in a shorter time.

Looks amazing. That wood is beautiful ive never heard of it.
How does k390 do with staining? Especially on a cooking knife? Does vinegar work with that steel?
    Your handles look outstanding.

Thank you. Yeah, lignum vitae is a beautiful wood. This one is Argentine Lignum Vitae, it’s super hard, dense and rot resistant, all around my favorite. K390 stains easily but not as easily as 80crv2 (for reference). I’ve been using my K390 for a while now and it just has a light patina but I know I take care of my knives more than my mom takes care of hers.
I don’t know how vinegar will react with this steel. I’m planning on doing another video on this knife after it gets more patina, I’ll probably have a better idea then. This handle did come out nice. I was lucky to find such a beautiful scales for it.

@@totesmalotes my grandfather said if you wanna know how tough your knife is let a woman use it in the kitchen for a few meals. Lol He was full of funny saying like that. It's funny how I remember them out of nowhere.
      Have a good one bro

@@richardhenry1969 this is actually part of the reason I made this knife for my mom. I want to see how it holds up, it’s a good saying. Hope you have a good one too.
