    really an extraordinary day bro. agree with you, apart from sport fishing this species is also very economically valuable for consumption. its delicious meat and vitamin content in it are very beneficial for the body. my respects to you for thinking about preserving this species here, we are almost about to lose this species due to excessive fishing, because this species is very much hunted here and not preserved.

    The problem that I have is with all the bow fisherman that are just over fishing and killing them and not even keeping them, but instead leaving them dead in the water. My question is what is the point of it to just kill shit, all they are doing is making it harder for the people to catch them.

    • @KambotroutFishing
      @KambotroutFishing  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some of them are def doing it just to ruin it for others. Other bowfishers are doing it because they really believe it’s the right thing.
      Motivations aside, they’re ruining the fishing for others.

    • @accordingtoabe2211
      @accordingtoabe2211 ปีที่แล้ว

      def not cool to not keep what you kill, but with that said, its invasive. pretty sure its not even legal to catch and release them, at any size. at least not where im at here in Virginia. im from md but idk what the rules are there. regardless, other organisms will feed on the fish so dont feel too bad about it for that at least. invasive is invasive.

    • @KambotroutFishing
      @KambotroutFishing  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@accordingtoabe2211 Legal requirements on Snakehead vary by state, but in most cases, you’re allowed to release them immediately after catching them back into the waters in which you caught them. That’s the case in MD, DE, and VA (this was in MD).
      It’s usually only illegal to possess live snakehead or to transport live snakehead (which makes good sense in my opinion).
      I often harvest them, but it usually depends on whether or not I have room in the freezer or know someone who wants them.
      They’re the best tasting fish in freshwater and have an excellent meat to body ratio. They’re also easy to filet, so if I need meat or know someone who does, I’ll often keep them.
      With that said, I’ll release them if I don’t have a need to harvest. Many people take an issue with this because they’re labeled as an invasive species, and most fisheries managers do highly encourage their harvest.
      The peer-reviewed and published science thus far has not shown invasive impact. I’ve actually done an interview series with John Odenkirk, a VDGIF fisheries biologist, in which we review the most recent science and legal requirements on the species (link below if you’re interested).
      th-cam.com/video/lceYaOj8P9M/w-d-xo.html
      Still, invasive impact sometimes takes several decades to manifest, so if someone does harvest intensely, I understand their position.
      My personal opinion is that the degree of their impact will depend on the waters involved. In uniformly shallow waters with no established large predatory species (like Blackwater), they’ll likely have more of an impact (though I do think their impact is overblown and the snakehead scapegoated for our own impact).
      In deeper waters though, they’ll likely have less of an impact, especially when those deeper waters have large, established predatory fish.
      For me, they’re an admirable species, excellent parents, and incredible sportfish.
      Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

    • @accordingtoabe2211
      @accordingtoabe2211 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Kambotrout Fishing this is a highly insightful answer! thanks for the time and effort. i do think the impact is more likely in shallower waters if at all, and now that people have caught on to how much fun they are to catch, theyre being controlled more. ive seen researchers tag and release for information on their growth and things, but i just come from a long line of "if you hook it, you cook it."
      so it being labeled as invasive isnt any problem to me, cuz i was gonna eat it anyway!
      thanks for the great content!

    • @KambotroutFishing
      @KambotroutFishing  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks brother. I generally don’t use anything less than 40 pound test braid because of the heavy cover you often find them in. Sometimes you’re reeling in a 10 pound Snakehead +10 pounds of grass.
      If you’re in more open water, you’ll probably be fine, but if you’re fishing heavy cover, I would go up to at least 30 pound braid.

      @@cdcoffren1 in my experience, no, it’s not needed. I run straight braid and have done so in tannic and clear water without issue.

    Awesome fishing, that double up was madness! What kind of water temps did you have that day? Those pads are grown big, had to have been close to 70. Also, I'm sure you've tried them but if you haven't the KVD Poppin' Perch frogs are fantastic as well. The hook up ratio is incredible, such a soft body, it collapses away when bitten so easily.
    Btw, that was definitely not 15 more minutes at the end there, you aren't fooling us, you kept fishing way longer than that haha. But who can blame you when it's that good! My wife knows all to well that I'll be back in an hour means 1.5 minimum when the bite is on lmao
