    I use my Honda Jazz (same as Fit) for travelling to Rc-events (3-5 days) in Denmark, Norway and Germany. The passenger side is full of (huge) rc-gliders, Lots of stuff I keep in a net under the roof. I sleep at the driver side with the seat pushed forward, a box with rc stuff fills the gap. Thank you for the "dehumidifier" tip. Btw. my age is 71 :-)

    Driving tip, to avoid accidents, not sure if someone already posted this but, never leave any loose items in the driver footwell like shoes, bottles etc, if they become dislodged and move about while driving, they can become stuck behind your brake peddle, it may lead to a crash.
    Happy trails!

    • @j_taylor
      @j_taylor 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      One neat quirk of the Fit is there is no open space under the driver seat; that's where the fuel tank is. Items can't sneak up on you from the floor in the back.

    Dude, thank you so much for showing me your ride/home. I currently have a honda fit and have been itching to travel so I went to carvana for a van, ended up not liking it and exchanging it out for my old car again. I felt pretty defeated until I watched your video. I didnt think you could keep the car tidy enough but you def showed me that it can be done. I appreciate all the info and am looking forward to putting it to use. Safe travel :)

    I have a 2012 Honda Fit and I brag about how much I can actually FIT into it lol a large chaise lounge, a treadmill, and just recently I packed it with 2 desks with storage, 2 tall bedside dressers and a small chaise lounge in ONE trip, it was a tetris situation, but it worked out great! Love that you're doing this with yours! How cool!

    • @Eduardo_Espinoza
      @Eduardo_Espinoza 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I was about to put a treadmill in my mini too:)
      & used to carry piles of dirt in the back for gardening.
      Always wanted a Honda fit but they're super expensive for an old one, even back then, thinking of getting a bigger cheaper fuel efficient reliable car later :)

    I recently purchased a Fit as my first (in my name) car. I just got my associates degree and subsequently a job paying ~40k and my previous car was totaled; I think I may be living out of my car as I work 45 miles away from my home. This tour was quite informative and I can see myself with a similar setup to yours rather soon since rent is still sky high. I just need to learn about implementing an electrical system (just solar + battery) as I think that's very important when living inside a car. Thanks for the video!

  • @quirkykindalife2948
    @quirkykindalife2948 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Thanks for the video. I'm currently building out my fit to camp in and possibly live for a while. I did decide to go with a small platform to deal with the uneven floor and find the extra storage space helpful. Plus I can still sit up. Yay for small cars with lots of headroom.

    Iam 5’7” and the space between the trunk and the forwarded front seats is 5’5” exactly in my honda jazz(fit).What I do when I sleep in my car during car camping is to keep pillow at the trunk side and stretch my extended 2-3 inches legs into the space between the front seats ..that gives me a full length room to sleep comfortably.The only thing is to keep in mind is to park the car in such a way that the trunk side is little elevated to 5-10 degrees .

    Nice car setup. I first really got inspired by the CheapRVLiving youtube channel. I've been debating on the Jackery battery bank that you have. What do you think of it? Would you consider their solar panels too; or is the cigarette lighter plenty easy for charging? Thanks lots!!!

    • @kskategirl
      @kskategirl  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'd recommend the Jackery power bank, when on the road cigarette lighter is enough for charging. Since I have limited space in the car I don't bring the solar panel, but I have the solar panel at home to use incase of power outages.

  • @ElizabethDelRosario

    Hey awesome video, really like your setup. I've got a Honda fit too and was working on a camper build, and really dig the plywood back table you built. By chance do you have the plans/measurements for it you could share?

    • @kskategirl
      @kskategirl  2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      The one I built is 1/2 inch plywood, 15 inches (I should have made this wider) by 46 inches. I don't have any plans, I just matched the curves of the trunk by making a template out of cardboard and tracing that to either side of the board. Keep in mind the measurements would depend on what model year your car is.

      I use a 4 inch memory foam mattress and it eliminates any unevenness in the floor. I've linked the same one I use in the description. I sometimes use a one or two inch inflatable foam mattress when I need to pack light and that is tolerable but noticeably less comfortable.

      The Fit is very fuel efficient. I get 40 mpg in my daily commute (mostly highway). If I stay under 70mph, I get 43 mpg. It would be a little less with the weight of camping gear.
      2019 Fit, manual transmission and driving "gently". The CVT is supposed to be a little better. A lot depends how aggressively you drive.
      I drove and camped across country in a station wagon and absolutely loved having a regular car instead of a van. And this Fit has more interior space than my wagon did!

    Do you have a template for the wood table in the back? Thank you.

    • @kskategirl
      @kskategirl  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The one I built is 1/2 inch plywood, 15 inches (I should have made this wider) by 46 inches. I don't have any plans, I just matched the curves of the trunk by making a template out of cardboard and tracing that to either side of the board. Keep in mind the measurements would depend on what model year your car is.

    can i know how tall are you to fit from the passenger seat to the back when lying down please? 5feet 5?

    • @kskategirl
      @kskategirl  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      5'4". I had a friend who is 5'7" and he was able to fit comfortably. Another friend who is about 5'9" uses his Fit for car camping, but might be a bit small to sleep in long term for someone of that height.

    Thanks for saying how tall you. 5'4 is tiny....so this car would not work for a larger man.

      There are other arrangements that will allow a larger man to stay there: 1- remove the front seat 2- use a cot, it will fit well when the front seat is complete recline to the back, and the back seats have been folded down.
