    Awesome. I got a 2012. I'm about to use this idea to transplant myself from Texas to Oregon. I can't stand living in a big city anymore already in my 30s.

    I've had my 2011 since year one, LOVE IT, and always had an interest in doing something like this. I bought a 98 Ford E350 Club Wagon in 2017 and have spent the last 5 years casually working on converting it to a camper. It's been great, lots of adventures with my son, but I decided to give him the van this year since my circumstances don't allow for road trips in the van any more.
    I've been struggling with letting go of the van, but decided to check out what people were doing with their Fits for camping. That led me here, and immediately after watching your video I bought a cot to try this. Suddenly the option of car camping has become available again. Back to basics.
    Thanks for the inspiration!

    • @mrtwinkie0
      @mrtwinkie0  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's awesome! Yeah, it's definitely basic, but it gets the job done. Keeps you dry and warm and much more comfortable than sleeping on the floor!
      Good on you for givi g your son the van. Hopefully you'll both have amazing adventures in your future.

    Hi Kenneth- I have a 2009 Honda Fit and am hoping to take it camping, but ideally with the hatchback open overnight. I'm wondering if you have ever done this with this car and how it went? Did the car battery handle it ok? That is my main concern. Thanks for the help!

    • @mrtwinkie0
      @mrtwinkie0  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Marie! I've definitely thought about that. I assume your concern is with the light that automatically turns on with the trunk open, correct? If that's the case, all you need to do is trick the car to think that the latch to the trunk is closed. You can do that by taking a screw driver or something that can fit inside the trunk door latch and close it while the trunk is open. This should turn off the light. You'll just need to make sure to open it back up before closing your trunk by pulling on the trunk door lever.

    • @mrtwinkie0
      @mrtwinkie0  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Which one do you like better, the cot or the platform build from your other video?

    • @mrtwinkie0
      @mrtwinkie0  ปีที่แล้ว

      Both have advantages. With the cot, I can have access to my stuff without having to get out of the car. I can also for different size stuff too. The platform fits a fun size mattress and is warmer, especially with 2 people. If I'm going solo, it's the cot all the way. But with a friend, the platform is a must.

    • @mrtwinkie0
      @mrtwinkie0  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It comes down to how permanent you want your setup to be. Mine is only in when I'm camping. Otherwise it's a regular car. Too much effort to always remove the seats. If it were permanent, I'd for sure take the seats out!

    Why did you prefer the cot over the wood platform?

    • @mrtwinkie0
      @mrtwinkie0  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The wood platform I built houses 2 people. For this trip I was riding solo, and having the cot makes things more accessible. My wood platform is pretty high and had a good amount of storage space, but it takes awhile to setup and break down everyday. I also wouldn't be able to fit the bike underneath.
