    Many newbies won't know this but the main thing to remember when doing work on your own bike is to have Aerosmith playing in the background!

    What a great design to do the valve shimcs. Not too complex and room to get in. Its a far better bike in the real world to work on yourself and has to be the king of middleweight adventure bikes. Those engines are good for well over 100k miles and is probably the best triple out there and very strong as it seems to share the same crank specs as the daytona 675 but detuned by one third on the bhp but with more low down torque. I had a 1996 daytona 900 and i really loved the torque of that motor. These tiger 800s are far better with a better sprag clutch, more reliable engine. What a great bike.

    Thanks for the video. I now see why this is a hugely expensive job at the dealers £700 in UK (labour and parts, though I guess changing shims would add to this). Not a job I can do though, got to bite the bullet.

    Demonstration video much appreciated! I’m comfortable changing valve shims on a single thumper with a carburetor but This appears slightly above my skill/confidence level - I’m concerned I’ll forget where something goes or inadvertently skip a step. Might have to enlist assistance from a more skilled buddy to help me out. Keep up the informative posts. BTW my local Triumph dealer service department charges $120/hr labor. Thanks again!

    When ever i do the shim change on my bikes and i need an odd shim size that is less than the shim in the bike i get a perfectly flat smooth surface and place a 400-600 grit wet and dry paper on it, spray WD40 and rub the shim in figure 8’s until i get the measurement im after.

    Progress should mean bikes require less maintenance than before. My 91 Nighthawk 750 has hydraulic lifters. The Super Tenere valve check is every 42000km. Even the Ducati Multistrada V4, every 60000km, the Harley Pan america, no valve service, ever. What were Triumph thinking with a 20000km valve check schedule on their latest models? When even a Ducati has 3X less valve checks required, you know you have room for improvement.

    • @BlueADV214
      @BlueADV214  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s interesting that hydraulic lifters aren’t standard. Probably thinking it helps support dealers because most people won’t touch them.

      @@BlueADV214 Most likely, also it weighs slightly more and is not ideal for very high reving bikes (risk of valve float)...but definitely a sacrifice I'd be willing to make! And clearly even Harley has it on their latest RevMax engine so it's not cause Triumph can't do it...they are going backwards, at this rate, the maintenance will soon be in hours instead of km, like on a dirt bike :P

      I will probably do a likes/dislikes video later this year after my next desert trip. I don’t know what the dealership charges for a valve adjustment or the 12k service… but I can tell you what they charged to put new seals on just one of the fork legs… $240.
      So by my math, if they had done seals on both fork legs, I would have paid $500 after tax. If you watch my video on the fork rebuild, you will see how absurd they price is. I can only imagine what the cost would be for a valve adjustment, let alone the entire 12k service.

    Thank you for your videos, they are very informative.
    I am having a hard time getting a feel for the clearance on the exhaust side.
    I am able to insert a 0.330mm and 0.356mm blade on all exhaust valves, but it feels the same.
    #1 exhaust cylinder is the only one I feel confident on my measurement, because is so easy to reach.
    I have used both flat and tapper blades purchased at the local auto part store.
    I am now thinking of getting longer feel gauge blades with narrow point I seen online.
    Any suggestions?

My dealer says, yes, this can be a pain and you risk breaking the coil. How did you find this? I wonder if I might get more of an angle if I lift the cam cover first?

    great video¡¡,I will do the 1st adjustment at 30,000 km (18,000), the adjustment of the camshaft sprockets is to compensate for the stretching of the chain with the kilometers, I think it is a bit silly and possible failure if one of them loosens They...., I will not touch them either. hello great video just a question does your bike have cruise, do not see the stepper motor and i have that on the gt pro not sure if there is room to remove the cam cover without removing the throttle bodies on mine with the stepper motor

    • @BlueADV214
      @BlueADV214  ปีที่แล้ว

      I do have cruise… I don’t think you can get away with not removing the throttle bodies, but will certainly look into it on my next service (2023).
      My general recommendation is to follow the Triumph manual triumphtechnicalinformation.com and not skip anything (at least the first time); shortcuts are often not as a good an idea as they sound. The dealership uses the same manual, so if there was a more efficient way of doing it without unnecessary risk, they will USUALLY just have it reflected in the manual already.

      @aruekca18det 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I already made my decision… going to skip this forever… Never did this with my Suzuki never got a problem after +70K kms. I believe reduced oil change intervals really help dealing with this.

    There is no possible way to measure exhaust valve clearances with stright gap gauge. I ended up doing the service myself, and i assure you, that friction and tension of the straight gap gauge inserted into exhaust valve clearance with some angle, will cause incorrect values result. You need curved gap gauges.
    Also, please remember to oil your o-rings, especially the one in chain tensioner. I just wasted the new one because i didn't do it. That's probably the basic knowledge that every mechanic have, but i guess the audience of this video are people like me, that are not experienced, and missing information like that may result in job failure.

    • @BlueADV214
