Searching Dirt South of Sly Park
Scouting the general area south of Sly Park (Jenkinson Lake / Pollock Pines).
Be aware, there are a lot of people that use portions of this area for target practice (shooting); and near Grizzly Flat we were more or less advised by the presumptive land owners near, they did not want us riding through their private road... we simply apologized for being lost and politely asked for directions. It's not exactly clear on the map where private land begins or ends... it's best to be polite and take the advice of the land owners.

    • @BlueADV214
      @BlueADV214 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It should stay in the settings I control it to and stay that way until I change it again; I don’t need or want my bike to think for me. And it seems to be lost somewhere in translation/experience… I’m NOT talking about stopping the engine, I’m talking about turning the ignition off and back on.

  • @markneville5235
    @markneville5235 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Hey matey, You talked about the rider mode needs to be changed when you stop the bike to get it back to what you charged it to , well apparently if you stall the bike in the mode that your in then when you restart it it will stay in that mode , I hope this helps , Mark.

    • @BlueADV214
      @BlueADV214 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I wasn’t talking about stalling the bike. I talked about when the ignition (key) is cycled off/on as well as having to stop the bike to switch between On/Off-Road modes. I’ll admit, you can hold the mode switch down when in an Off-Road mode and set the bike to Road mode, but not the other way around. Disclaimer: I no longer own this bike and may not be aware of any changes to new models.

    There is no possible way to measure exhaust valve clearances with stright gap gauge. I ended up doing the service myself, and i assure you, that friction and tension of the straight gap gauge inserted into exhaust valve clearance with some angle, will cause incorrect values result. You need curved gap gauges. Also, please remember to oil your o-rings, especially the one in chain tensioner. I just wasted the new one because i didn't do it. That's probably the basic knowledge that every mechanic have, but i guess the audience of this video are people like me, that are not experienced, and missing information like that may result in job failure.

    I failed in my attempt. Found out I've got a pretty severe fear of exposure (not so much heights) with the dropoff on one side. Bothered me there like no place else I've ridden. Spent some time trying to overcome it, but ultimately failed to ride to the top.

    Would've been nice if you could have told us where you were at along the trail, like what campground by the lake was that very nice

      Gotta leave some sense of adventure… that campground was at Weber Lake though.

      It’s pretty much section 5 From Truckee to the Buttes. In the route sequence. First Truckee to Verdi Peak, then to Webber Lake. From there to Downieville. Then to the Buttes. Both peaks are optional (expert / advance sections BDR rating). Not bad in small bike. My fav section of 3,4,5.

      How long between trucke and downieville? Roughly

    • @BlueADV214
      @BlueADV214 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Depends on a few factors such as your speed, number of stops, how long you stop…. my ride started around 10am and got to Downieville around 5pm. We would have been there sooner if not for a lost tool bag and a few extra stops.

    Cant thanks you enough, done the valve shims, on to the forks now and then the RAD flush to follow... you vids are so helpful. Question - Triumph Fork Spring Compressor - T3880067 - What is the inside diameter of the tool? Trying to find a cheaper option. Also do you recommend changing the fork bushings at the same time? - 20,000 service here. Thanks

    • @BlueADV214
      @BlueADV214 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sorry, I don't know the diameter of the tool. As to the bushings, they only need to be replaced if worn beyond a certain point... but having to leave the fork apart while you order them isn't ideal, and having them just in case is also sort of a waste when they are so cheap and the fork is already apart. In my opinion, I would just make replacing them a part of the fork refresh, especially if I planned on keeping the motorcycle.

      @@BlueADV214 great thanks - forks not apart yet, so I will order seals and bushes before I strip them.

    When ever i do the shim change on my bikes and i need an odd shim size that is less than the shim in the bike i get a perfectly flat smooth surface and place a 400-600 grit wet and dry paper on it, spray WD40 and rub the shim in figure 8’s until i get the measurement im after.
