About the war times - have You heard about the Habsburg family (yes, members of the Austrian House of Habsburg), who lived in a castle in a Polish town Żywiec (Germans called this town: Saybush), in southern Poland? It's a unique story of their life (even for a video). Especially about the Archduke Karl Albrecht Habsburg and his wife Alice Habsburg (who was from a Swedish aristocratic family Ankarcrona). They had not a drop of Polish blood, but they chose to be Polish. Their children were raised in love to Poland and spoke Polish. In 1920 the Archduke jooined the Polish Army as an officer and faught in the Polish war against the Bolsheviks Red Army. During the II World War, the Archduke and his wife declared in front of the Germans, when they entered Żywiec, that they are of Polish nationality and refused to sign the German so-called Volksliste. As a consequence, the Archduke was arrested and imprisoned by German Gestapo, and was even tortured by them. He left the German prison blind on one eye and half paralyzed. At the same time, his wife Alice Habsburg chose to join the Polish conspiration and was helping the Polish Home Army, she was for instance delivering secret messages for them, risking her life. And also a son of Archduke was fighting as a Polish soldier in the WW II in the I Armoured Division of General Stanisław Maczek. After the war, the communists took all of their property, they had to emigrate and couldn't come back. But in 1993 their daughter, Princess Maria Christina Habsburg, who for all these years of emigration loved Poland and spoke Polish perfectly, could finally come back to live again in Poland (she was already an old women, on a wheelchair, she never got married and had no children, but she had a very good memory, there were a lot of interesting interviews with her). She received a flat from the town in the former palace, and she died in Żywiec in 2012. People still remember her and her family, she and her family received state decorations from Polish President. By the way, the aunt of the Archduke Karl Albrecht (a sister of his father - Karl Stefan Habsburg, who also lived in Polish Żywiec and is buried there - she was the queen of Spain since 1885). And these Habsburgs established also in Żywiec a famous, still existing since 1856, brewery. So although the Austrian Habsburgs took part in the earlier centuries in the Partitions of Poland, this family was so different and really good for Polish and they were Polish patriots. There's plenty of information, books, documentaries, articles about them, also in Internet in English (also in English version of Wikipedia).

    • @MayaTheDecemberGirl
      @MayaTheDecemberGirl 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

@@yoongistongue4163 Well, during the times of partitions of Poland (1795-1918) they also, as invaders and occupiers, were destroying, e.g. various cultural heritage items, and exploiting the country. For instance, in the royal castle of Wawel in Cracow they made military accomodation for soldiers, resulting in damages. Polish people had to serve for long years in their army, being forced to go to various parts of the world. However, the situation in their partition was still the best, much, much better comparing to Prussian part and especially comparing to the Russian. There was much more freedom and autonomy. As regarding the above mentioned branch of Habsburg family - they were different, honourable people, caring about the region and Polish living there, loving Poland, later also figthing for Poland. And Archduke Karl Albrecht Habsburg and his wife - they lived in Poland also after 1918, so when Poland regained independence, until the end of the WW II and the communist times (they left Poland in 1951).

One of the jokes was changing one letter in the name - Ribbentrop into Ribbentrup - "trup" in Polish means "corpse", so in German it would sound like Ribbentot. On the other side The Polish Post Office in Gdańsk is one of the most dramatic episodes during the Polish-German war in September 1939 - a group of Poles, mostly civilians, fight against German troops trying to defend the office. The survivors were all shot and buried in a mass grave.

Regarding post office in Gdańsk it was one of the first armed clashes of World War II, the defense of the Polish Post Office building in the City of Gdańsk by an organized group of Polish postmen, lasted from morning to evening on September 1, 1939.
First German attack failed; was repelled. During this attempt he was mortally wounded by his commander - SS-Untersturmführer, Alfred Heinrich. At the same time, an attack from the Labor Office was repelled.
Approximately 15:00, the new German attack commander ordered a break in the assault and gave the postmen two hours to surrender. At the same time, a 105 mm howitzer was brought in, and sappers dug a hole under the post office wall, in which they placed a 600-kilogram explosive charge. After the ultimatum expired (at 5 p.m.), the charge was fired, demolishing part of the building's wall, and the German troops, supported by three guns, launched an assault, occupying part of the post office building. At that time, the defense was limited to the basements, where the defenders took shelter from the fire.
Approximately At 6:00 p.m., motor pumps were brought to the post office and the Germans pumped gasoline into the basements, which was then ignited using flamethrowers. As a result of these actions, five postmen were probably burned alive (including Brunon Marszałkowski and Stanisław Rekowski).
At. At 7:00 p.m. the defenders decided to capitulate. Director Dr. Jan Michoń was the first to leave the burning building. Even though he was only carrying a white flag, he was shot by the attackers. The postmaster, Józef Wąsik, who followed him, was burned alive with a flamethrower.
Is the story from the Gdańsk post office at 1st of September 1939.

Story of Poczta Polska (Post Office)
Before the WW2 Gdańsk / Danzig hold a status of Free City (free State) but was dominated by german majority and regarded by II Reich as regular german harbour city. Poles however, had some internationally guaranteed liberties and offices in the city. One of them was Polish Post Office which become one of main resistance points on Sep. 1st. Today Poczta Gdańska is a symbol resistance (and museum).
The story of defenders is sad and shaws how proper closure may take decades.
The postmen defended the building all day long, then surrendered. They were subsequently charged and executed as illegal partisans (criminals), when in fact they were defending an official Polish outpost and should be protected as prisoners of war. That was not even war crime but a court crime. Germany reversed the sentence and rehabilitated the victims only in 1997 (the prosecutor and judge never took responsibility, they were denazified and then lived in Germany as lawyers).
I mention this story only to show why our Polish-German relations are still sometimes bittersweet and from what level they have evolved to the point where we can laugh together. ❤

Is it even possible that You have never heard about it yet? Not only Polish people know it very well, but also people from many other countries - for instance Finnish (as I've seen at one TH-cam channel, they know even more details about this pact than we do, although Polish know history quite well). Agent Kloss is a reference to an old Polish show "Stawka większa niz zycie" about WW2, Kloss was guy who was a Polish spy pretending to be a German soldier.
Also, the song "siekiera motyka" is a real song popular in the times of Nazi occupation.

The Post Office in Gdańsk was Polish, but it was not in Poland, because at the time Gdańsk was Wolne Miasto Gdańsk (Freie Stadt Danzig), so not Polish and not German and why the Germans wanted to take the Post Office? Because by the law it was Polish land, like an embassy, so there were armed Polish postmen guarding the Post Office.
Heroic fight took place there against SS soldiers and after the surrender the Germans treated the prisoners as spies and shot, although the law stated that they defended Polish soil, so could not be treated as spies but as soldiers.

When Goring said Grzyb (Mushroom), he had in mind two things:
    1. The impolite way to speak about older people. The full term is Stary Grzyb, which means literally The Old Mushroom. In the scene, it was shortened to Grzyb. Even if you tell only the 2nd word, every Pole will understand it.
    2. The name of the back then Marshal of Poland, Edward Rydz-Śmigły (he had a double surname). The word Rydz is the name of a Red Pine Mushroom in Polish.

That's why when Poland capitulated some cities still were fighting, because Germans destroyed most of the post offices (or at least the most important ones, like the one in Gdańsk). It's similar with trains. Germans they blew up the railway tracks so there cannot be can't communication (I hope I explained it correctly)

    Hello.
If you want to understand what this joke about the Post Office in Gdańsk was about, you need to look at the history of the defense of the Gdańsk Post Office in 1939. and as for the names, they are specially misspelled a bit for greater laughs. For example, the original surname RIBENTROP was changed to RIBENTRUP in the joke. In Polish, "TRUP" means DEAD BODY.
Just for your better understanding of this joke.
    Kind regards

The man act Herman Goring is Marek Perepeczko is unfortunately died - around 10 years ago heart attack - very good actor and years before body builder and sportsmen too.
That sitcom today sims funny - but many years ago then was not very welcome by public opinion
I think cause - cheap , stupid - witch this laugh in back , that time it was copy of US shows style and polish people commonly dont wanted accept that yet - but 13 posterunek - 13 station police
( bad lucky - No13 police station ) - was not yet very hopeless , some episodes and scenes are funny and made inteligent , some art scenes looking very well today .

You are talking about the acting and the quick change of mood and facial expressions of Cezary Pazura. Yes, of course, you will notice this in all comedy films with his participation. I would compare him to Jimmi Carry in this respect. I watched the 13th Precinct as a child, but now, as an adult, I understand the irony towards Hitler and his companions. Maybe I even missed this episode because I don't remember much😊
