Generally such weird names happen. Though they are relatively rare. TBH some German long words are also weird.
PS: The funniest missing part of that movie is that questioned person actually lied about his name. What is Franciszek Dolas (read as Francis-ek).
It is the movie trilogy in 3 parts. It is absolutely worth watching.

I am polish, lived & studied on a Polish - German border. When German border patrol was asking stupid question (they knew we were students) where are we going, many polish students claimed they were going to visit Grzegorz Brzęczyszczykiewicz. They must have thought, he was a very popular lad😂

The movie is GOLD mine. All about culture clashes with Germans, Swiss, Hungarians(?), Horvats, Brits, French, Turks... but mostly about clashes of Franek Dolas (that was the name of character he was mocking Germans here) with other Poles.

Komizm tej sceny polegał na tym, że Franek Dolas wymyślił sobie jak najtrudniejsze imię i nazwisko do wymówienia dla Niemca, bo wcale się tak nie nazywał... i miejsce urodzenia też... Mówiąc na dzisiejsze prankował wroga... Nie wiem czy Ci wszyscy obcokrajowcy komentujący tę scenę rozumieją kontekst
Pewnie tak, to nie jest wybitnie skomplikowany humor.
Oczywiście na potrzeby filmu , ale wystarczy ze masz na imię Grzegorz i już 90% Anglików czy Niemców polegnie , a na nazwisko Brzęczek czy żmija lub Żmijewski 😊
Większość ludzi z zagranicy na pewno nie zna kontekstu tego momentu śmiesznej sceny bo tu nie tylko chodzi o celowe utrudnienie dla Niemca Franek nie robił tego tylko dla dowcipu ale to była jakby swego rodzaju walka z wrogiem i oczywiście dodatkowo wiadomo że Niemcy zawsze mieli trudność szczególnie w takich nazwach polskich z resztą nie tylko Niemcy 😊
Dodatkowo to się powtarza jeszcze w czasach średniowiecza jak sprawdzano szpiegów na naszych terenach.... jeżeli oczywiście to prawda 😊

Franek is short for Franciszek, which would not be so easy for German native speaker either. But Dolas is definitely easier.
I jest na podstawie książki "Przygody Kanoniera Dolasa", tam bohater nazywa się Adolf Dolas.
Ta scena nie pochodzi jednak z tej książki. Wzieli ją z książki C.K. Dezerterzy, gdzie Kania przedstawia się w taki sposób tylko innym nazwiskiem na komisji C.K. Armii
Znam krótsze, ale równie piękne dla Niemców polskie nazwisko: Kściuczyk.

The movie title is "How I unleashed second world war" (Jak Rozpętałem Drugą Wojnę Światową) and it has 3 parts. It's without a doubt one of the best Polish comedies and if you find a good translation you'd love it.
This comedy series is very strongly based on national stereotypes popular in Poland. In second part of the series Franek is held in british POW camp commanded by neurotic capitain Peacoock and flegmatic sergeant Hopkins. There is a famous scene of all life in the camp dying completely due to "Five o'clock-tea time" call. All british guards in the camp immediately exchange weapons for teapots.

Actually the German officer (who you said had a strong accent) and Hans (the guy who writes it), were both played by polish actors (Emil Karewicz and Andrzej Herder respectively).

Też mam podobnie długie, skomplikowane nazwisko (dużo sz i rz ). Kiedy przyjechałam na porodówkę w nocy, przyjmowało mnie dwóch młodych lekarzy. Polak i Egipcjanin. Kiedy Egipcjanin usłyszał moje nazwisko powiedział- kolega panią poprowadzi, ja nie umiem tego przeczytać 🤣

One of the best scene from this movie is also, when Franek Dolas (main character ,,Grzegorz" - he was lying on purpose with that name) was climbing bridge and German soldier sit on his hands. The actor playing ss officer was a very good and famous actor in Poland, playing in theatres, Emil Karewicz. He had got wonderful mimic postures, therefore this scene with him struggling to pronounce the name, hiding his face with his hand so he did not feel like he acts stupid before the arrested man is so brilliant. The best part in this movie? This name Grzegorz Brzęczyszczykiewicz was actually made up by the main character to piss off officers🤣🤣. Jak Rozpętałem 2 wojnę światową is full of such gags, misunderstandings and funny dialogues. Franek Dolas - the main character - is a man who means well but ends up messing up collosally everything he tries to do 🤣🤣

Nie wiem skąd pochodzisz, ale mieszkańcy ziem które przed wojną (i w czasie zaborów) należały do Niemiec nie maja z tym problemy. Po wojnie wspólnie się wychowywaliśmy Niemcy , Polacy, Ślązacy, Warmiacy (na Warmie i Mazury przesiedlono również wielu Ukraińców) wszyscy na tzw. ziemiach odzyskanych.

This movie is a fantastic comedy, with VERY well known actors reprising their roles from other Polish WW II movies. The First actor playing a German officer is Emil Karewicz, who played a LEGENDARY role of the Hermann Brunner - an SS officer (and nemesis of Kloss - the main character) in the Polish TV series "More than Life at Stake" (or"Stake Higher than Life'); here he is playing essentially the same role. The SS-man using the typing machine is Andrzej Herder, who played the Kloss' batman also in "More than Life art Stake"; so, in effect, playing the same role here. In fact, they both very well may have played the SAME CHARACTERS. At the beginning of the movie a German general is played by an actor who played essentially the same role in another WW II movie. and so on. It's worth noting that Emil Karewicz playing German officer was in real life partisant and later solder taking part in Battle of Berlin.
When my father was in the GDR and lost his passport, he said that it was similar to how he reported it to the German police, only in his case the policeman told my father to write down our surname.
I point out the excellent Easter egg contained in the scene. The actor who played SS Untersturmführer in this scene was Emil Karewicz, who also played Obersturmführer Hermann Brunner, the main protagonist in the series "Higher Than Life Stakes".
It’s one of my favourite polish movies . Sure you should watch this ! Its so funny 😂 old but good I saw it milion times

We love this movie, it has 3 parts and allows you to laugh out of serious content. Even prison camps! The main character is a nice trickster, trying to cope with a war situation on all fronts. It is worth purchasing access to the film with subtitles
Entire movie is like that
What really bothers me every single time is that English and Germans always try to pronounce every single letter of Polish script. WHY? Just WHY? Do they say every single letter separately? English omit like half and then have multi-letters that form just one sound. What about German script? Do they really read tsch as t-s-c-h? Nope. Why do they expect we say every letter separately? Why is that supposition?
In general in polish language every letter stands for itself and represent single sound. There are anyway several two letter clusters representing single sound. Note also that when a letter is doubled like in the word "zaadresować - to put the address (on a letter)" it should be pronounced as two separate sounds but not as a longer one.
Polish unlike Czech (and English) has no distinciton between short and long vovels. All are considered short.
The only language that takes correspondence letter->sound to the extreme is Turkish. There is silent letter but no two letters - one sound relations.
Yes. Germans have "tsch" and the longes Polish phoneme is written with only three letters: "dzi".
Although Czech alphabet has a lot simpler solutions with additional caron over the letter. The irony is in the English notation of word "Czech" which obviously came directly from the Polish notation.
Usually, we German Speakers say the words as we write them, with the exception of phonemes like "sch", "tsch" or others. What puzzles us is simply the way Polish phonemes are buildt. Especially if you haven't yet learned Polish, have no collection of Phonemes for the Language, you are bound to stumble over those wonderful tongue-and-lip-jerkers. Take in addition that I am hard of hearing and partially deaf, imagine me trying to reproduce that name. It comes out as "Bschentitikiewitz" or "Bschentschitschikiewitz", and that might not even be the proper pronounciation for I simply don't have the according collection of phonemes.

The translation is simple though:
sz = sch
cz = tsch
szcz = schtsch
Brzęczyszczykiewicz = Bschentschyschtschykjewitsch
However for Germans and even English the consonant clusters are not a problem. They are in German and in English, or very similar equivalents. But the vowels will not sound right. Especially the vowel y that does not exist in German or in English and unless you are trained linguist you cannot find the way to say it right. Same for ae (a umlaut) which for Poles is next to impossible (we choose either a or e and stick to that)
@@gliderfan6196 Why thank you kind sir for the explanation. Thought I 've missed something in my transliteration which I simply didn't perceive properly. I do perfectly well know about the problem with German Umlauts. I am Croatian in second generation living in Austria and my mother has acquired German as a second language. She 's been speaking German for about 55 years now, and quite fluently at that, but still on occasion her accent shines throu all the Viennese veneer. She has trouble with the umlauts to this day, so, I won't ever be an ass to someone who cannot pronounce that properly. For me it's simply part of an accent I've grown up with, so no trouble there.

This name and the place name were completely made up. The main character, Franek Dolas (his name), was extremely sarcastic and easygoing. He just wanted to tease the Germans (and it worked).
The movie is called "Jak rozpętałem drugą wojnę światową" and is in 3 parts. If you could watch it with subtitles - please do. The whole movie is just like this scene. That's the famous Polish sense of humor from the 70's. Poles basically had nothing but they still knew how to cope. That era was tough but people somehow united in the time of poverty. All they could have done was to lighten the mood with a good laugh. You know the feeling when something is so ridiculous, that all you can do is laugh. Everything that was happening back then was ridiculous. That's why the comedies from those times are so remarkable. Normally we have slightly shorter names / last names 😅 Here it is exagerated for comedy reasons. But if you want something REALLY hard, try to say "Konstantynopolitańczykowianeczka" (yes, it is a real word, meaning a young Constantinopole girl).

@@llukizz8402 yeah yeah and still literally everyone knows it. I say its the greatest classic because of its popularity and that its still remembered by many, still played on tv. Like G'n'R, IMO hugely overrated band, still one of greatest rock classics.
Polish names are different, some of them are short and simple, some of them not that much. I personally work with French guys everyday and boy oh boy, they suffer 🤭 🤭🤭Also for villages we have Krzcięcice and Szczebrzeszyn, shorter than Chrząszczyrzewoszyce but still hard to pronounce 😉
But french struggle with any language that is not french 😂

@@IwonaF333I think what Chris meant that French people don't really like to speak any other language than French even though they do understand some English but cause they feel proud of their language and culture so much that they will never accept that English is the most popular language in the world. At least that's my feelings anytime I was there. For some reason it's alright as they try to protect their culture and I understand that but as a foreigner I just try to communicate so sometimes they make it difficult ( at least it was like that some years ago)

This movie is obviously a comedy. The hero mocks the Germans in this scene. As a Pole, I can say that the surname Brzęczyszczykiewicz could be found among only a few Poles. I think that there is no town in Poland - Crząszczyżewoszyce.

I saw somebody mention "Allo, allo" in the comments, so instead of replying to that, i will just say it in a standalone comment: yes, it's very good. They made 7 seasons of it, but unlike many TV series, it does hold up until the very end. It's funny, light-hearted and charming, well worth watching on your own time.

Totally correct, but thats also the reason why german vocabulary (not grammar ) is easy, for example handshoe = glove or toothdoctor, or eyedoctor and so much more like earworm (if a song is stuck in your head) and the cool thing is you can do it als yourself and everybody will know what you mean if you apply certain rules 😊@@gemgreg

@@chris.poland Przetłumaczyłem przez wujka googla i w języku polskim to jest całe zdanie i ma 9 wyrazów. "Ustawa o przeniesieniu zadań w zakresie monitorowania etykietowania wołowiny." To jest masakra, chyba tylko w indonezyjskim są dłuższe wyrazy. W wymowie nie jest takie trudne ale trzeba czytać powoli. Szybko nie da rady bo trzeba składać powoli litery. 😂😂

The German officer is played by a very famous and great Polish actor, Emil Karewicz. By the way, during World War II he was active in the anti-Nazi resistance movement, and then captured Berlin together with the Second Polish Army on the Eastern Front - the Poles provided artillery cover for the Soviet infantry. After capturing Berlin, the Poles raised the Polish flag on the Brandenburg Gate, next to the Soviet flag, but the Soviets took it down (and tried to erase it in historical photos). Then Polish flags appeared all over Berlin. Interestingly, Germans from Berlin also hung them up en masse. It was a kind of manifestation of hostility towards Soviet soldiers who, unlike Poles, behaved like monsters in Berlin towards the civilian population, especially towards women. Generally - already then, Stalin began to hide the participation of Poles in the liberation of Poland or in the capture of Berlin, in order to justify the great plunder of Polish property in 1944-1947 (supposedly "a reward for the USSR for liberation").

Great podcast, this scene is iconic in Polish cinematography. Of course, we "treat" our Polish problems from those times with it (the film is old - 1969), today, from the perspective of friendship between Poles and Germans, it is very funny. And you can compare it to German phrases, for example: Blautkraut bleibt Blaukraut und Brautkleid bleibt Brautkleid or Der Sumpfschlump schlumpft sich durch den Sumpfschlumpf, which is very difficult for Poles to pronounce. :)

Mieszkam w woj. Zachodniopomorskim w miejscowości Łobez czyli dawnych ziemiach Niemieckich i tak naprawdę do początku lat 90' istniało u nas przekonanie że wszystko co było Niemiecki czyli np. pomniki, nagrobki, infrastruktura itd jest złem i trzeba to zniszczyć. Dopiero teraz zaczynamy dbać o wszystko, u mnie w mieście dopiero kilka lat temu odrestaurowano i zagospodarowano piękne wzgórze które za czasów Niemieckich nazywało się wzgórzem Rolanda i zostało stworzone na cześć poległych żołnierzy w 1 wojnie światowej, a wzgórze to i pomniki na nim odsłaniał sam Paul von Hindenburg ! Super że pomagać łamać te bariery - minęło tak wiele czasu że my młodzi nie chcemy już żeby to nas dzieliło.
To jak będziesz starszy to może zrozumiesz , teraz zamilcz Dzieciaku i zabierz się za książki .
the hero of the film wants the German to make as many mistakes as possible, because when he escapes (and he planned to), there is no point in searching because any of the Germans will pronounce and write his name correctly and there is no way of remembering him. A funny scene, but contrary to appearances, a very wise attitude of the film's hero.
It was great :) the best part - trying to pronounce really hard polish names - respect :) we have some examples like most famous "stół z powyłamywanymi nogami" - this is also challenge for Polish :)
