I shot some footage at the beach with surfer dudes using the new Osmo Mobile and really loved it compared to the DJI Osmo Mobile 2. It is more compact and versatile. The smoothness on it was really amazing too. All the footage taken on the gimbal was shot using the iPhone XS Max, but you could use any mobile phone from a Google Pixel to a Samsung Note or even an LG phone. All phones are great on this gimbal! No more shaky footage with the DJI Osmo Mobile 3. Google Pixel 3 would be perfect for this. Compared to the DJI Osmo mobile 2 and the original Osmo mobile, I think Osmo Mobile 3 is the best phone gimbal in 2019.

Just got my one yesterday and it's brilliant. The osmo mobile 2 was already good but with the new version DJI fix all the small issues with the two. First is super portable now. Before it was awkward to transported, now it fit any any sling shot bag backpack probably even in jackets with big pockets. It fold and stay fixed no more having to get elastic bands to stop arm to move around. It even more light. On great thing with Osmo mobile is you can charge your mobile while using... well in theory because the placement of your phone would be blocked by the arm on Osmo Mobile 2, with new version not a problem. It now uses usb type-c so that means if your have a new generation phone don't have to bring multiple cables. What else now you have extra button that can track person/object (one tap) recenter (two taps) and best one change rear camera to front camera (3 taps). You also have button to change from portrait mode to landscape, and finally gesture mode great to take group selfies. The Osmo Mobile 2 was good but the 3 is so much better. All the new things make it super easy and practical to use. I have been tested today and it does all that I mention above. Have holidays soon and will be abe to really put it to test but for now I love it.

Definitely consider Crane M2 if you need ONE gimbal for not only smartphone, but also point and shoot, GoPro, and small mirrorless cameras.

Great review! I just purchased the Mobile 3 and I agree that it's an amazing device! Unfortunately, Filmic Pro has not been upgraded very well to accommodate the 3. It has some very basic features but it's kind of disappointing.

I wrote to support that i was very disappointed when updating from Osmo Mobile 2 to Osmo Mobile 3 because Filmic Pro ist not supported. And hurray i got this answer.

Out of the box at the moment you can use the Osmo Mobile 3 for basic stabilization, and it may be possible to start/stop recording from the gimbal. To do so, follow these steps:

2.) In your System Settings, select Bluetooth and connect to the Osmo Mobile 3.
3.) Do NOT turn on the DJI Osmo Mobile toggle in FiLMiC Pro's Hardware settings. If it's on, toggle it off.
4.) In FiLMiC Pro's Settings > Device, scroll all the way to the bottom and toggle "Volume Keys Trigger Recording" ON.
Once you've done this, you should be able to use the record button to start/stop recording.

I tried it out. It works. Record button is better than nothing and helps to tap less on the screen.

I know it's exclusively made for smartphones. But can you have a combo with osmo action camera on this gimbal? Just need to pick one if it can work with the osmo action with out the mimo app for normal motions.

Is it that good, I got the S9 and just picked the ozmo 3 because of the tracking, which works excellent for bts work I'm doing but did wonder if the camera was that much better

Bought it 2 days back.. but there is one issue... My videos look shaky and glitchy. Am using Samsung a51. Is it the issue with the software or the gimbal itself?. I have noticed the glitch only when using the mimo app, but there isn't any glitch using phone camera app but the shakiness is still there.

I just got one of these and after experimenting with taking photos, I am disappointed with the image quality of photos taken with the Mimo app (I haven't experimented with video yet, although I bought it to take videos). Is there a way to use the Iphone 8 plus camera app to take photos with the OM3 instead of with the Mimo app? How about to shoot video?
Whoever is planning on buying this, be prepared with extra power banks. Also, with the phone it's almost a 1100$ setup. I am always very nervous about dropping my phone and losing all my media when I was using the mobile 2 (which I sold). At least this one is collapsible which makes it a little bit more useful I guess.
Waiting for the zhiyun smooth q2. Seems like a much better product than osmo mobile 3. I had the osmo 2 before and it was clunky. The osmo 3 looks clunky as well other than when it’s in its closed state.
Thanks for the video. So far I am happy with my osmo mobile 3 and my phone the iPhone 11 Pro Max. The only thing is that I have to take the phonecover off every time which sucks a bit.

Hey! I wanted to know if you are paying attention to the company, when do you expect the next version to be out? I totally love this gimbal but it doesn't turn 360° like other competitive gimbals like zhiyun smooth q2. I don't wanna trust zhiyun for customer support and since dji is a well know company... I'd prefer to wait. Could you help me out with this?

Heavy Moment lens works flawlessly. No counter weight, Just slice the phone over.

I think you can disable the buttons! But cases sometimes get in the way

Hey Dave, Great video and information. I am a real estate broker and wanted to do a video of a property. I purchased the dji3 put my iPhone 10x to do the property tour but, the camera was all over the place. I had to keep double-clicking the trigger to center the shot. I am not sure what I am, doing wrong.
How is it with the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra?
I have the osmo mobile 2 and use it with my LG v40. I don't use the app for camera stuff. I open the app to connect. Then leave the app and go to the native camera app cause I like to record in 10 bit 1080p 21:9 30fps
Does the tracking work on your V40? I'm thinking of buying it for a film I'm about to make. Hard to get any info about how it works with the V40. Looks awesome...
@@RockWILK if you're buying the v40 for a film you say... I don't know about the tracking as I only used the DJI app to connect the gimbal and get it running. Otherwise I'd go back to the normal camera app

I plan to use the native camera app for pretty much everything, but I need tracking for this film, and so I would really only need the software of any gimbal for tracking. The rest would just be for stabilization and I'll be using all the manual controls and other effects/modes in the V40. I'm looking at this new iSteady X gimbal by Hohem. Looks good and the tracking looks even easier than the Osmo and the Smooth 4. Thanks!!

Being able to power the phone makes this the thing to have...as much as storage on a phone is an issue, battery life kills them as a tool to use.

What about the fact that as soon as you walk or move at all really the optical stabilisation on the phone fights with the gimbal and gives you a ton of shaky horrible footage?
Can you switch the picture around or turn the entire camera around while rolling video so you see yourself instead of what is in front of you?!

@@philamburgey Okay, thank you and I learned something new as I just got this gimbal, however I mean is there a way to to turn the camera around while rolling video, so not rotating it when the video is off!! ON!! It seems so strange to me programmers don't make this function possible. Unless you know a magic trick to do it!? Do they even make a certain phone camera that can do it like Samsung or Motorola! I love my iPhone and I have the 11 Pro Max but this one problem I don't like!!
Yeah my s9 doesn't allow this while filming, so that may be the limitation.

I’m still waiting for a real reply. Everything I’m reading the answer is no. Not even with just the phone. Not to mention the added weight from the lens and case. It sucks because I have it new in a box and afraid to open. The weights really are pushing it. If you do get it add the extra warranty. We might need it.

Max load is 230g, OnePlus 7 pro + moment case + anamorphic lens = 290g? I guess it will work but don't expect smooth footage. I have seen another TH-camr uses iPhone Xs Max + moment case + anamorphic lens, footage looks slightly jittering when he walks

Depends on the quality... under optimum lighting conditions the smartphone cameras are amazing (and even better for gimbal shots) but IF you expect to mess around with Colour and Exposure Correction a Mirrorless Camera - for smaller/lighter lenses - is preferred.
@@TheGeoDaddy true, a DSLR is always better but the lenses also are $$$ Some lenses cost more then a whole new high end phone so i would shoot on the phone as much as possible because a nice mirrorless and lens will sit you back 1k or more

I have the Nikon Z6 filmmakers kit and just bought the iPhone11 and expect yo use both... the iPhone on the Osmo is my BTS and backup camera (like I used to have a small Olympus when I was shooting Nikon F5 (film) for quick shots on a lightweight zoom and having alternate ISO film 400 to cover what I - might - not be getting with my 100 chrome on the F5 (and couldn’t preview ANYTHING!!!)

Heard the motor closest to the camera (phone) gets HOT enuff to shut down the smart device after 15 minutes of use...
I never had it shit down on me in the month that I've used it on a daily basis for hours on end and that's with a Note 10+
Neither have I - just repeating a concern expressed... will say that the Osmo motors are too weak to handle a lightning mic attached (in my case, for an external Shure Mic) the slightest tug threw the motors... picked up the Zhiyun Smooth Motion Q2 and works fine... keeping both!
