The purpose of the canister is this: It collects fumes evaporating from the fuel tank (while the car is parked) and condenses them back into gasoline. The car then sucks this excess fuel out of the canister and burns it while running. This eliminates the old problem of walking into your garage and smelling gas fumes from your parked car. In the old days, your fuel tank was vented to the outside, and the gas vapor could be detected after the car was parked a while. Now it is vented into that canister, and reused. so the smell is eliminated. That hose is designed to flow the fumes and/or condensed fuel from the canister into the engine, so that it does not overflow. It often has a "purge valve" in the middle of the hose; such a valve is designed to purge the canister for only the first 5 minutes of when the car is started.
Another cause of a vacuum leak is the purge valve may not be closing properly. That's on the hose that you pointed to, where the elbow tends to crack and cause a vacuum leak. Sometimes it gets clogged with carbon granules from the carbon canister. I guess the valve shouldn't be open while idle. (That seems to be part of the problem I'm having, currently)
@@phatboitex2cali Somewhere in there. Twas on a hose coming from that black canister. But, my problem was actually the capacitors in the ECU. If you check the trouble codes, it'll give you an issue for the maf sensor, coolant temp sensor, throttle position sensor, intake temp sensor, etc.. All those at the same time. It probably means that the capacitors are bad, and not those devices. Capacitors that regulate the reference voltage for those components.
I wish people would start and run the car to document the symptoms. I happen to have the same model, and it's surging and dying from time to time. It'd be really helpful for comparison.
You said the air filter looks good. Well you are looking at the back side of it in the video. Of course the back side of the filter will look clean. The front side is where it gets dirty, Really bad call on that one.
Had a recent problem with sudden prolific smoke. Its rare but it was caused by the transmission vacuum modulator sticking. It was attached to the exhaust and when it stuck open it sucked transmission fluid back up into the fuel mixture. It was pink fluid.
That issue is because the vacuum diaphragm was leaking inside that vacuum modulator. The valve is basically an on/off switch to tell the transmission you are putting a load on the transmission and react accordingly
great video ! looking for some advice on my 2000 ford 2.5l. i have a lean code, checked for vacuum leaks with a smoke machine. there was smoke coming out of the idle air control valve's(IAC) top/breaher cap/vent (not sure want its called), and on the Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR valve) vents holes . wanted to know if that was normal?
It is the fuel canister. It collects the fuel that is evaporating from your gas tank, and recirculates it into the engine to be burnt. This is to prevent the car from always smelling like gas fumes because fuel is always evaporating from the tank.
@@joelrivera6781 so i had just a misfire p0301 on my scanner replaced ignition coil with wires and plugs. That fixed it with having 140k miles.. that should help you
I have an 01 limited edition Ford ranger edge. 3.0, V6, 5speed 2wd.,that I'm trying to restore and parts have Ben hard to come by. If anyone has any feed back on where I can look for parts ( engine, body parts among other things )would be very helpful. Thank you.

Happen yesterday , my idle air control valve had a slither of a leaf stuck inside, also if you disconnect the wire it leads you to the problem.
Anyone know if this is an issue with the manual versions?
Would the idle control valve cause the truck to seam like you have a stuck choke

Where are the two connection points? From airbox (lower left, engine bay, as you look at it) to throttle body? If so, that's the intake tube.

It dose not idle at all you take your foot of gas pedal it diesò
got a 2001 3.0 shakes alot and has gotten worse, happens at a stop or low speeds below 10 mph
