    As a 21 year old I got back home from a night out with my mates to listen to this fight on the radio. It sounded really exciting and as a Brit was obviously happy with the result. Interesting hearing the American commentary. They complimented Honeyghan more than our guys did who didn't give him an earthly, hence why we didn't get it on TV over here. Big upset.

    Lloyd starched ( and I mean starched ) Gianfranco Rosi leading in to this fight. Never seen an Italian Fight crowd go so immediately quiet as Rosi hung over the bottom rope
    No one really paid attention to that result but maybe they should have
    The Curry win, remains, along with Stracy’s win over Napoles, the best overseas victory of any British Fighter
    Lloyd was an absolute Beast here

    I don't see why people are dissing the commentary team in the comments, they were on point all night. In the very first round they called that Honeyghan was on top - normally home commentators pretend not to notice if the home guy is shipping the early rounds.

    Don Curry was well known in his time in the UK and the Republic of Ireland but because some of the best middleweights ever were fighting at that time...Hagler, Duran, and Hearns and the 1976 Olympic champion Leonard. The last time Hagler ever fought was against Leonard who had retired with a detached retina but somebody offered Leonard a fight with Hagler with a guaranteed win. Hagler and Tyson were the most fearsome fighters ever. Hagler sometimes found out 2 weeks before where he was fighting. Joe Frazier told Hagler "You've got 3 strikes against you, you're black, you're a southpaw and you're good". His first break was against Willie "the Worm" Monroe on 2 weeks notice who was trained by Frazier. He wasn't on the namby pamby Olympic team. He was a fighter and was robbed in his last fight and never got a rematch. Marvelous Hagler. One Judge gave the fight 115 - 113 for Hagler another 115-113 to Leonard and Judge JoJo Guerra scored it 118-110 for Leonard. YoYo Guerra is still alive seemingly. Where would be nice to know.

      you miss the point......curry was p4p & seemingly invincible, yet ragamuffin upset the world....his style beat the best fighter of his generation. Breland, Starling are of no consequence.....like turpin's win over SRR, this was in the back yard of the champion & one of the greatest wins for a british fighter. I can think of very few upsets that are as shocking as this......srr vs turpin, tyson vs douglas, ali vs spinks, ali vs liston, tarver vs jones maybe.

      Oh really..you mean the moochie whovlost twice to curry,lost to bumphus and lost to blocker...all 3 who honey beat. And breland eh? Jorge vaca destroyed him...lloyd sent vaca to the floor with 1 punch like he'd eaten a bad plate pf enchilladas he couldnt breathe like he had a burito stuck in his throat....by the time honeyghan fought moochie and breland he was totally finished physically,mentally and spiritually...he fought and beat a very long line of fighters rosi ,mittee,shufford,curry,bumphus,blocker,hatcher,vaca twice inc 2 robbery and yung kil cheung...after basically 10 world title level fights his hands were gone and his party lifestyle finished him

      @Geokinkladze I know Hagler only fought at middleweight but I don't get your point. Are you saying he should have lost weight to fight Duran at a lower weight? He fought Hands of Stone Duran at middleweight and Hagler won. Duran beat SRL at lightweight or welterweight (I don't remember) so are you saying Duran would have beaten Hagler at these weights. That was the Golden era of boxing in my opinion. I respected Duran, and Hearns but not detached retina boy. I think he was more suited to Ballet. Ah, Georgie Kinkladze, Aguero, Tevez were great. Anyhow what do you mean Hagler wouldn't budge for Duran. I have to watch that fight again. It was 1983.

    • @Geokinkladze
      @Geokinkladze หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@pittameatdish7589 Hagler refused to fight at any other weight than middle. He never impressed against Duran. Personally I credit Leonard for at least going toe to toe with Duran in their first fight, showed courage. He didn't dance against Hearns either. All the other kings fought at different weights in order to make fights happen.

    • @pittameatdish7589
      @pittameatdish7589 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Geokinkladze but it's easier to put on weight as you get older so most fighters goes up in weight. Ali won the Olympics as a light heavyweight before becoming "The Greatest" at heavyweight. Would you expect him to go back down to light heavyweight or cruiserweight in his 30s. Manny Pacquiao went up through the weights. Some say he had to put lead on his person to make the weight for his first professional fight and he kept going up. Usyk won at Cruiserweight and now he's going to fight Dubois and looks like he'll make short work of him but I can't see him dropping weight now to fight a cruiserweight. It's just nature. Hagler could have dropped to welterweight to fight Duran but he'd be weaker. Why accommate your opponent by weakening yourself. Muscle weighs twice as much as fat they say. Even a person who never stepped into a ring knows it's harder to lose weight as you age than it is put on weight. There are exceptions but most boxers that win Championships at different weights usually go up in weights. Look at Hearns and the weights he fought at and he's 6ft 1in. The contender doesn't pick the right ring size or gloves. Hagler was just a natural middleweight and held the title for 7 years or something. So you think he should have dropped to welterweight to fight Duran. I wouldn't do it.
