This was a better Old George fight. I like it better when he doesn’t hold back as much. This was kind of exciting. Otherwise I tend to avoid watching Old George because he went too easy.

As a 21 year old I got back home from a night out with my mates to listen to this fight on the radio. It sounded really exciting and as a Brit was obviously happy with the result. Interesting hearing the American commentary. They complimented Honeyghan more than our guys did who didn't give him an earthly, hence why we didn't get it on TV over here. Big upset.

Clancy thought Cooney was a good fighter. Cooney had a glass jaw. Mike Slinks knocked him out in round 5 in 1987 Thst was mostly the end of Cooney. Except big George Foreman knocked him out in 2 rounds in 1990. Cooney could punch but couldn't take a good shot

I don't see why people are dissing the commentary team in the comments, they were on point all night. In the very first round they called that Honeyghan was on top - normally home commentators pretend not to notice if the home guy is shipping the early rounds.

I agree with a lot of folks in the comments section that Seldon took a dive against Tyson in 1996, but against Bowe here in 1991 he got caught with a hard right cross that dumped him to the canvas. He stupidly jumped up after the knockdown waisting precious energy in the process and then got cracked by a solid left hook to the point of the chin which put him down for good. This was not a 'dive fight' like many folks claim. Seldon actually had excellent all round boxing skills including one of the best jabs of any heavyweight in the 1990s. His problem was that he had a weak chin and poor stamina late on in a fight. However, he did give Oliver McCall a difficult fight before being stopped late in that contest and he did manage to score a TKO win over an admittingly old but still useful Tony Tucker in 1995 to secure the WBA belt. Seldon was no bum. He just could not beat the big guns of the sport, that's all. Bowe on the other hand beat Evander Holyfield twice and became the WBA, WBO and IBF champ. However, I always find it fascinating that despite defeating Holyfield twice, he seemed to be totally out of his depth against Andrew Golota - a fighter who was not considered to be great yet one who managed to dominate Bowe in both of their bouts before being disqualified for low blows. Bowe also never fought Ray Mercer, Tommy Morrison, Lennox Lewis, Mike Tyson, George Foreman, Larry Holmes, Michael Moorer and Razor Ruddock. In fact, if you look at Bowe's record, the only really big name on there was Holyfield. I think Bowe was a good fighter and a decent champion but he was not in the league of a Tyson or a Lewis or a Foreman or a Holmes. All four of those guys were better champions. Bowe's career was too short and ended too quickly for him to be considered a great champion.

This the definition of aura, Ricardo was knocked down on match 1 surprising the entire world about it. "Being undefeated doesn't mean invincibility". Ricardo felt loss after it was a draw and later on match 2 he showed level.

You wouldn’t think this was just two years before the Foreman fight in Zaire- but IN those two years Ali fought TWELVE times beating all including Joe Frazier and Ken Norton.
