This song is off the In Step meant for AA 12 step program, it refers to the pressures of life that can lead to alcohol and drug addiction but you can still rock out sober. It was written by Bill Carter and his wife Ruth Ellsworth and the mucis by Double Trouble who got writing credits. On June 6, 1990 Crossfire was released and became Stevie Ray's only #1 hit 2 months after his death. STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN WILL ALWAYS BE THE GOAT!

I had second row seats in small concert hall the year before he was taken from us. I have seen many top bands and guitarists since my first concert in 1969 SRV was my favorite.

That thumb pull at the end of the 1st solo ( 03:41 ) is my absolute favourite single note in all music. After 34 years, I still anticipate it with glee, while playing every note of that silky solo (perfectly) in my head.

Hey , Stevie sounds as good live as he does in the studio,he’s amazing. All of SRV’s tunes are off the chain you should play pride and joy, look at little sister, Texas flood, cold shot, couldn’t stand the weather, oh for sure play voodoo child and little wing. These songs are so incredible!!!!!

Man, he was a mean beast. I miss him so much. Gonna see what else you have reacted to and will recommend some. I do love his studio work.
Live: pipeline with his brother jimi
Look up Stevie Ray Vaughan rehearsal, it supposed early in the day and he just rolled outa bed and rips it.
    Studio gems:
    The Sky is Crying
    House is a Rockin
    Rivera Paradise (Instrumental)
    Tightrope
    Cold Shot
    Love Struck Baby
Honestly I think you should go through his studio work like you did AC/DC, it’s all good . The later stuff with keys man Reese is amazing

I saw Stevie in 1989. Lake Compounce, Bristol, CT. Outside, nice day. With the Fab TBirds, but the Fab TBirds didn't play and we got the long set of Stevie. Killer show.

Everything about this was so on point but I also really love the lyrics to this song and the way he delivers them. It's an important message for sure.
Well I bought his first studio album within weeks of it being released and had been listening to that and the second album for at least a few years before I ever got to see him live the first time. So I definitely thought of them in terms of his studio work. And then I got to see him three different times and every time was really just fantastic. And then that helicopter crash happens and then a lot of us were devastated. Just like the Lynyrd Skynyrd plane crash.

Yea. Crossfire, of his last studio album. EPIC. It really shows his skills, which of course fire. Please do more. If you haven't done Tin Pan Alley, I recommend that one . Did you Mary had a little lamb. That is a must do.
    P.I.P Stevie.

Just getting started, but in terms of your theme of checking out some more of the studio work, that entire first album is just incredible. I mean they all are but it was so cool when it came out. I was in college and I immediately bought it and we all try to figure out guitar licks to certain songs and things. A couple of my favorites off of that that I bet you would really dig:
    Testify
    Mary Had a Little Lamb
    Lovestruck Baby

Biz, you need to to do the music video he and Double Trouble made of "Cold Shot"... it's hilarious! The video outrageously spoofs SRV's guitar obsession. Also, the music video for their cover of Stevie Wonder's "Superstition" is very clever, with tongue-in-cheek humor implemented f
with all kinds of superstitions that land the band members and crew in mishaps, with only SRV remaining unscathed! By the way, Wonder himself appears in a cameo at the video's end. SRV and Double Trouble recorded the track at Stevie Wonder's own studio. Wonder was a big SRV fan, and they became good friends. Wonder even sang at Stevie Ray's funeral. Please check out these entertaining music videos with their studio tracks. They are GOLD!

This is SRV’s only #1! Written by Double Trouble and Fort Worth guitarist Bill Carter and his wife, it’s from the last album with Double Trouble released in his lifetime. The last album Stevie ever recorded was with his brother Jimmie, who was considered maybe the best guitarist in Texas until Stevie broke out, and afterwards still probably considered the best rhythm guitarist. It’s called ‘Family Style’ and credited to The Vaughan Brothers. There are no live versions available of these songs, because Stevie was killed after it was recorded but before it was released. “Long Way From Home” is my favorite. With Jimmie’s rhythm and Stevie’s lead guitar, it’s red hot. “Tick Tock” was written by Jimmie and sung by Stevie, a sweet soul song about dreams for the future, before it’s too late. “Telephone Song” is about being on the road missing your girlfriend. Stevie pulls out all his Hendrix wah-wah tricks here. No one ever reacts to this album, and there’s great stuff. Nile Rodgers produced. Thanks!

One of my fav tracks from that album was Hard to Be and esp love the part where Stevie says in the beginning, "Roll and I'll just feel something!" Whether that was taken out of context or not doesn't matter, he was so one with his musical soul and therefore quite capable of winging it.

Theres some footage from Stevie's "Fire and Fury" tour with Jeff Beck that's worth a watch. Two guitar GOATS bur.ning up the stage together, Stevie killed it and his vocals were really gritty too! Song is called "Going Down". Stevie had a big live following but dudnt break through nationally until his guitar work was featured on David Bowie's China Girl album (he stood out on the song "Let's Dance" that got tons of radio play) and Stevie's album Texas Flood came out almost immediately thereafter. The other one that got a lot of radio play and recognition for Stevie was "Pride and Joy", which was a crossover blues/rock hit. From that point, SRV was a rising star and headliner on the national scene, filling large venues and making appearances on TV. There's quite a bit of video footage of him from his various live performances, a few MTV and TV performances in addition to his studio albums. One reason people direct you to the videos is because his stage presence & style are just jaw-dropping and you miss that dimension of Stevie if you're only doing audio.

This is the album he put out after he cleaned up, and right before he died. A masterpiece, and sadly the last antemortem studio release.
Fun track on this one is "Scratch 'n' Sniff." A little love story.
Most powerful track on this album to me is "Tightrope." What you be walkin' when you're addicted. Such a great album. Such a shame he passed shortly after cleaning up. :( Who knows what greatness we could have witnessed in his evolution as a songwriter and lyricist? The lyricism on this album is his best, IMO, as he really went deep during his recovery, and that album is the result.
