- WiiNet is a project that aims to bring some functionality to the Wii's Internet Channel so that you can use it in the modern day. So today, we're going to take it for a test drive.

Hi Michael! First of all I just wanted to thank you on behalf of the team for checking out WiiNet and making this video. I’ve kept up with your content for a while and enjoy your videos. WiiNet was originally just some idea I had for shits and giggles, seeing if I could make the Internet Channel into something more useable in the modern day. The amount of support I got was a lot more than I ever anticipated. I also wanted to mention that the issue you may have encountered with the slowdown on flash games and other content is due to a problem with the channel itself that we wouldn’t be able to fix without pushing out our own version of the channel. Anyways, we hope you enjoyed checking out WiiNet and we’d like to say there’s much more we’d want to do for the future. Cheers!
PS: I should’ve mentioned this but I’m not the service owner anymore. I founded the service and was the first to work on it. My friend soafen, (the one who also wrote an essay in here), did a lot of the heavy lifting and got it to where it is today.

Oh I had theoldnet's Wayback proxy enabled.
The Wii Browser always got slower over time.
Restarting was the only thing that worked.
Love the idea of this page however! It's like Oldnet for Wii.
I'm guessing that's due to memory leaks or fragmentation leaving it with not enough room to properly process pages.
what i find to be quite humorous is that in the usb keyboard games, there is a game called "experimental penguins" which is a really really REALLY early version of club penguin

I always hoped there would be a way of resurrecting the Internet Channel of the Nintendo Wii. Looks like this is it. It's very interesting, with nice classic game ports.

If I remember, that Mii Maker was made before the Wii even released. I guess it was recreated from preview videos and stuff. But it was neat to play around with during the massive hype the Wii had leading up to release.
I would love for the Wii U browser to get another update. The system is much more capable, and should be able to get by with (relatively) minor updates.

I remember being in middle school playing some of these flash games on my Wii!! We were poor and I'd played a ton of flash games on the pc and figured there would probably be ones I could play on the Wii specifically and there were, so the games section of this was very nostalgic for me lol

Some interesting picks in the games section, Experimental Penguins is actually a Club Penguin prototype
Double Wires is conceptually perfect for the Wii, and Pico's School has the same "doesn't fit in" vibe
as MadWorld. Funny to think this was started just because, I'm only more surprised this seems to be
the first, or at least first noteworthy attempt at this so far. So kudos to HighSpeedTurtle and anyone who helped
another great video installment of things I didn't know you could do with the Wii.

I remember using the internet channel at 8yrs old
to watch the original Pokémon series (Indigo League) on TH-cam split into 4 parts.
I more specifically remember getting Rickrolled by vids pretending to be “S01E09 Part 3/4” and thinking “not this stupid dancing guy again” HAHAHA

Unrelated to this video, but to the channel as a whole: I wonder if a deep-dive into how the sample music was selected for various windows releases would make an interesting video. I always enjoyed the music that came with my Dell WinXP desktop, but it always struck me as odd that none of it was remotely well-known, despite covering several genres. I've never come across anyone who's heard of Secondhand Jive or The Like Young or Big Kid. I think The Silos are the only one that's even relatively famous, and _maybe_ Dujeous. I just think it'd be neat to try and uncover why they selected the songs they did.

I used to play that Duck Hunt flash game all the time, but I can't find that specific variant anywhere. Just a website saying it was taken down due to a DMCA from Nintendo. "Game D Dogs" was especially fun.
This is the best way to use the internet.

I remember using the Internet Channel back in the day and watching TH-cam Videos (TH-cam XL) on the Wii which is nice.

This just reminded me that one of the coolest features of old 8-16 bit console emulators on the wii (NES,SNES,Genesis from what I remember) is that they actually allow you to use the wiimote as a light gun for games that support it. Not sure if that feature is talked about much but it's definitely something that makes wii versions of emulators stand out compared to emulating them on anything else (atleast back in the day, but honestly I still feel like that's a stand out feature by today's standards and just another great reason to hook a wii up to a CRT for classic console emulation).

OMG This has the first version of club penguin????? (For those who don't know, club penguin was first tested in 1999 as "experimental penguins", a flash game where you play as a basic penguin on one single location, all you can do is walk and chat

I remember the Mii Maker flash edition being called Mii Maker DS since I was everywhere on the internet as a child.
3:59 It might be lagging because maybe its not remake. It could also be emulated, as there are emulators written for the browser. I remember trying to play GBA games through the web browser on a TV or even an iPhone lagged so much (I never got past the intro screen, which would've probably took 10 minutes to get through), and the Wii browser is way older. Also I'll make sure my websites can work at least partially on the Internet Channel (bc why not)

Having looked at the leaked nintendo files i can confirm that the wii page that display cursor information and stuff is stolen from nintendo because it have the same look as the internal wii sports web pages.

I think around 2009 TH-cam did work completely fine it was just slow. I remember I used to watch videos on it when I couldn't use the computer

that super mario flash version took me back, hoooly! i was with my mom visiting a friend of her's and i was bored as hell by myself and all i had is a shitty pentium dual core computer with me that they had as a family computer, me being the bored as hell mf alone sitting there i decided to waste time somehow and i got a hand of that exact version of super mario flash to work on there and i kinda spent 3 or 4 hours just playing it while my mom was on waffling with her friends xD

When the Wii was out I wasn't that into it compared to previous consoles from Nintendo. But over time, I have gotten to appreciate it more and more.
This reminds me of WiiCade and DSiCade which were similar super neat tailored sites back in the day

hey man first of all i love your content second of all ive got a question i have fully homebrewed wii with almost everything it doesnt have the internet channel tho, is it possible that i can install that through a wad, will it cause issues since there already is a channel for the internet channel on my sys menu (its the channel that redirects you to the wii shop channel) i really want the internet channel since ive made a basic html site that thr browser can open plus i want to be able to use discross and wiinetxyz, is it possible that i can somehow get the internet channel on it without really doing anything crazy?? weirdly when i search this up almost nothing comes up about it just videos explaining how to install wads of wiiware stuff , ive also tried installing the internet channel wad ive got onto the emuNAND in usbloader gx but it just bugs out and locks up my wii so no luck, i can just try winging it and installing the wad onto my actual sys menu but im scared of bricking my wii since i dont have boot2. İ hope that this whole mess makes sense.

we were planning to expand to other consoles like the Wii U, but i still don't personally have one yet in spite of wanting one since they came out 😅

Watching these both amuse and make me sad, the fact I never had a Wii, until recently at least but it's bricked or so I was told, can't get it to boot, the repairing tools online don't ship to where I live, either.
