This stuff warms my heart. I still have my Wii and will never part with it. Me and my sister have all sorts of weird Miis and save data on there. This made me want to hook mine up again. So many hours of fun happened on that thing and the whole vibe of the menu and the look of it is so nostalgic. Easily one of the greatest game consoles ever.

The flashing screen likely stopped as soon as the capacitor “reformed” and was able to be capacitive again. This can happen when electronics hasn’t seen any voltage for years.
Just to touch on the whole "every wii turned into a netflix box" thing. It was the first way for the average consumer to easily stream netflix on random old analog televisions. Everyone already had a wii, many people had a netflix subscription for DVD's already. It was the perfect app for the target demographic at the perfect time for a services that was becoming a household name.

I actually installed a chip in mine that bypassed the copyright chip in it. It allowed any burned disc to be played. It wasn't too difficult to install either.
Dont even need a chip. You can softmod one and run games either off burned media or portable hard-drive. You cal even run GameCube games off a drive. Something that was thought for the longest time to be impossible.

I did a dumpster dive in 2021 at a local GameStop and found 22 Wii's and 4 WiiU's. All of which worked and passed recert just fine. They were in great shape. Just tossed. They quickly became junk consoles about a year after release.

i think a lot of the wii's ended up being netflix machines because it was something a lot of people had and it was when netflix started going more digital instead of getting dvd's in the mail and having a netflix channel just fit right in.

I know this happened before, but for when the play time for a game says over 24 hours, I think what happens is that the Wii logs the play time when you leave the game. I was thinking maybe someone maybe accidentally left it on for over a day.

My childhood wii was subject to so many lunchtime with Smosh videos and Ian Is Bored videos throughout the night.
FYI, when you hear the small bits rattling around on the inside. Most likely, these are pieces of the broken flap hinges. The ends snap off and fall inside.
I love my original wii. It plays my GameCube games,(later versions don’t). I put homebrew on my system and EVERY cart I own from Sega and Nintendo back to master system genesis NES Super NES All are there… I packed up al my classic consoles in boxes and are stashed away and everything I loved for decades is now in one box…. Not what Nintendo intended but when they removed store on the Wii platform, this was the next best option…. Plus it plays legit dvd with no problem. It’s an all around entertainment box. At least now that it’s been modded that is.
In some modded wii's you should try to press the power and reset bottons at the same time, to access the priiloader menu, its a faster way to access some features on the console

Older Wii’s can be modded to play burned games both Wii and GameCube as well as DVD movies. Newer models will need an external DVD drive to play burned Wii and DVD movies. GameCube support was never added for external DVD drives.

Most durable console I ever had was my ps2, we used it to prop up a broken futon frame and put like 600lbs on top of it and it still works 20+ years later

Yeah. My modded Wii was an early model firmware 4.2. Still have it. It can play DVDs but I didn't want to use it much to wear out the laser.
