5 years into using Samsung Edge devices, I have to confess that is very hard to find the right glass screen protector - actually I can't remember even hearing about a good glass screen protector for SGS6edge(+), the SGS7edge nor the Note 7 (FE). Those first good ones I found about were made for S8s/N8s and S9s/N9s, and some of them were even applied with liquid glue and worked flawlessly. Regardless, most of the GSC for SGS6e-7e etc, especially the cheapest ones, do require smashing on the screen to type a letter or are falling off your screen after 3.14 minutes of usage. Due to the nature of the curved screens, most of the glass protectors do have glue (or double-sided tape) only on their edges, hence, they are quite unuseful. The screen protector Hugh used in the video has none of those issues, protects the screen from scratches, and when paired with a nice case, like a Spigen one, can guarantee a high level of protection. As I own a few Note 7s, I also tend to have few screen protectors which are just the same as those in the video (although mine were pricier, I believe) and I have no complaints towards using them on daily basis.
Pretty sure it wasn't an overheating issue that caused the fires. It was the fact that because of the lack of room around the battery (as demonstrated in your video) and the internal makeup of the battery (samsung had crammed in the internal structure to get the largest capacity they could at the time) any slight knock or drop caused the anode and cathode layers to touch inside the battery at one of the corner causing a short circuit and subsequently swelling and flame. They wanted that bigger number and didn't put enough thought into the safety implications of the design

WOW! Kept my pristine unlocked N7 SIM-less on home WiFi as tablet / cam for years thinking that would prevent the OTA killer, but wrong I was. I gave up a few years ago after unable to find viable downgrade fix for an ATT version. Now its worth the cost of a FE battery. Thanks
My absolute favourite phone of all time. I know it’s just a phone but I was heartbroken when I had to give my original and 2(!) replacement Note7s back. 2 years later, the Note9 has now filled the gap. Favourite device I’ve ever owned!
This was the phone I wanted to upgrade to after they got all the new phone bugs get worked out. It's usually six months or so after a phone is released and in the wild before I think about it. Once this whole thing went down, I didn't even think about upgrading again until February 2020, and I got a Note 10+. The phone being replaced was a Note 5, which I still have, and even use every now and then. I'm glad I didn't just jump right in and buy a Note 7 when it was released though, which I was very seriously thinking about doing and completely disregarding my self imposed rule about not buying a new device at or near launch. I got really close though. It was literally the very next day after I had talked myself into it that the first round of fires started and I hit the breaks on the idea. If I had gone through with it, I would have been caught up in the middle of a huge recall, and without a new Note device for the first time in several years. I forget what phone they were setting people up with in the final recall, but I do remember that it was a Galaxy S that didn't really interest me much at all, so I would have got a refund and gone back to my Note 5.
Yes, having more air in a watertight sealed phone totally equals more "ventilation" I'm sorry but hearing you say that was painful Besides that- Your videos are actually great, and I enjoy watching them. I can tell you put a lot of time and effort into your videos and I'll definitely be watching more
Just in case you didn't know (though I'm sure you do having worked on quite a few Samsungs already, but hey), with the S7/Note7 and up, you CAN actually flash different carrier's firmware onto these, so long as (I believe) it's the same binary. Actually used to do it with my S7, got it unlocked from T-Mobile US, flashed it to G930U so all the carrier junk was gone. Also has the advantage of controlling the bands as the phone supports a variety of frequency bands BUT locks to those supported by the currently installed firmware. The only hard limitation is that the bootloader has to support the firmware you're flashing (which you already know to check for in this case with the binary versions), AND the firmware has to be for the SoC your phone has. Exynos firmware won't work on a Snapdragon and vice versa, so you'd be stuck to US firmware variants. Sounds like this is more of a showpiece though so this is probably completely irrelevant but if you ever wanted to be free of the AT&T junk (and you can find the N930U firmware without the battery limits), it can be done. Also, it won't trip Knox, either. But it also sounds like if you take the wrong firmware with this you're hosed so I'm not sure I'd personally risk it, either.
I have an old S7 edge that my daughter somehow damaged the motherboard inside. I've been thinking about getting it running again depending on cost and trying to figure out if I should root or do something else with it. It wasn't used for 9 months (less than 1 year for sure). I'm debating if I use it as my experimenting device or actually try and breathe life into it and sell it. It it's branded ATT. I could probably unlock it from ATT once booted since it was originally mine from them. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Samsung really has been making some absolutely beautiful phones past few years. From the S7 line, they all just look so premium. I had an S7 edge myself and I had a really good time with it!
I think the note 7, had it not been a high grade explosive, would have been the pinnacle of the smartphone. I absolutely adored mine in the few months that I had it.

Hugh: safer battery
Note 7: Blows up
Thanks
IMO, this is the most beautiful smartphone Samsung has ever manufactured, along with the S7 edge.
The s9 plus is a very good looking phone as well
@@Michael-tm6vs Bezeless display seems boring(there isn't much aesthetic design on screen), not as unique as Samsung's design before the S8
@@jonathanstupidcheesespaghetti I say the s9 looks better, but everyone's different.
@@jonathanstupidcheesespaghetti the note 7 looks very good though.
Hugh Jeffreys: Hey, I fix phones for a living.

polar opposites on the smartphone teardown spectrum
I kinda wish Jerry sent his phones to Hugh for scrap parts if he completely demolished one in a tear-down.

TechRax: okay guys I'm dropping this brand new iPhone 12 Pro Max in lava to see if it survives
yup.
There is something very therapeutic watching these videos.. Keep up the good work!

I'm probably gonna buy one just cause it looks so beautiful

14:20 I bet it was an unsold Note7, then when they heard about the recall, they took it right out of the box and sent that back.
I still have like three pristine note 7 boxes in my house from my purchases. I don't know why I save boxes, but I do.
@@kaussstorm they're probably rare, you should keep them of course

Wow I’ve had these 2 note 7s for about 5 yrs now waiting for this fix perfect for my business line thank you man !!!!!!!!!

It did.

My absolute favourite phone of all time. I know it’s just a phone but I was heartbroken when I had to give my original and 2(!) replacement Note7s back. 2 years later, the Note9 has now filled the gap. Favourite device I’ve ever owned!
Finally, someone who replaced the battery of the Note 7.
I love your videos, you're always so thorough and meticulous. Keep up the great work! ❤
Thanks for your words
The most beautiful Note ever!
Wow. I really enjoyed. Keep doing this.
Yes, having more air in a watertight sealed phone totally equals more "ventilation"
I'm sorry but hearing you say that was painful
Besides that- Your videos are actually great, and I enjoy watching them. I can tell you put a lot of time and effort into your videos and I'll definitely be watching more
the fact that you went went through all these hoops to get such a phone to work, is really great. cheers to you and a new subscriber
I love the look of this phone so much 🖤
That android 6.0 launcher gave me a bit of Nostalgic vibes. Man, I miss 2015.
When you actually want a non genuine battery

apple would be quite disappointed
At least iPhones don’t catch fire as often as the Samsung galaxy note 7
This is impressive....thank you for your hard work...this was extremely helpful....been wanting to do this with mine FOREVER....YOU ARE LEGEND SIR!!!!
All the best with yours
@@HughJeffreys how can buy the software to unlock this note7

Ahh i want to get my hands on a note 7. Ever since it came out i loved it
I think the note 7, had it not been a high grade explosive, would have been the pinnacle of the smartphone. I absolutely adored mine in the few months that I had it.
You could use ADB to remove the software update app
That would have been so much better, But I wonder if there's some way to install the note FE firmware on this device.
Leon Vollebregt you could probably use Odin to flash a custom ROM based on stock, you would need TWRP though
@@joshon360hz Then just use Odin to flash TWRP and install a custom ROM that way. It'd be much better than having to deal with Samsung's crappy TouchWiz.
@@real_jake That is, if any device trees has been created for the device. Not only that, kernel source and blobs. If Android 10, you have a crap ton cherry picking, merging, and modifying to do kernel source wise. You also have to keep in mind the proprietary blobs too. Probably needs tons of patching and kanging.
Cheezy I dislike the bloatware In touchwiz but mby a one ui rom
The Most beautiful phone ever made, imo
Ah, the Note7 - the reason I had to get an iPhone 6plus. I had a note4, traded it in, got the note7, and bam!, exploding phones. It was the best phone I’d ever had. Loved the design and functionality. The only phone that came close to the note7 at the time was the iPhone 6Plus so I went with it.
I forgot how pretty this phone is. I just might have to do a project of my own on one. I miss my Galaxy VR ;(
where do you get your screen protectors? they always seem to apply perfectly and have great quality
There are just glass screen protectors. As long as there is no dust they apply perfectly.
Buy full adhesive screen protector from amazon , alinsea or Colors one its really good

I can tell that this video took quite a long time to make. Appreciate the effort you put in to them.
I think there is a setting in "developer options" to disable automatic software updates, that would be much better than that 3rd party app.
The S4 had a similar case to the note 7.
When you flipped the case on to the screen it highlighted a segmemt that showed the time and notifications
Jaeyk G*59 every Samsung phone has a case like that available for it
