    The UI has changed a little for setting up internal traffic rules: In GA4 Go to Data Streams - Under Google Tag is 'Configure tag settings' - 'Show all' - Define internal traffic

      Data filters are used to stop that the traffic from ending up in your GA data

      I was looking for "Show All" like 10 minutes :).. So for all others it's a blue "Show All" drop down button at the right side of the "Settings" :DDDD Thanks man! Found it :)

    I followed the steps you have explained but it doesn't filter out the traffic for me...
    Could it be that filtering out internal traffic is not applicable for data sent through Measurement Protocol?

    Is the 2nd option involves adding variable in GTM container then update all the tags that we have in the container? Is the 1st option involves excluding the ip addresses in the data stream? If we use 2nd option, doesn't need to do option 1? Thanks.

    I have a client who wants to see internal vs external - is that possible if you filter internal traffic? In UA, I'd create a separate view. Not sure in GA4.

    7-11-2022: Google changed the settings. It's now: Datastream > Tag settings > (click 'show more') Define internal traffic. You're welcome 😉👍

    Hi. Do you need the extra developer filter if you're excluding it via Tag Manager? Or can you just have the internal traffic type in GA4 and then, the filter in GTM?

    Hi Benjamin, One question how to exclude in GA4 for example all the IPS from a country? how to put all the IPS in GA4? thanks in advance

      It's not possible in GA4. You would need to do this before data is collected. Maybe you could adjust your trigger in GTM to prevent your tags from firing.

    If you have a dynamic IP address couldn't you use Google's Analytics Opt Out Extention if you use Chrome?

      Agree, using that for UA and it works, it seems to be working in GA4 as well but harder to verify

    Will this work to remove real time event count? I done the setup but still see the real time event count increasing for my own internal traffic.

      Apparently the owner of this channel never help his audience directly when they have a question. Did you figure out why you still see the data in live preview because that's also my issue.

      Hey there! Just select 'Configure Tag Settings' instead. (Google are rolling out changes for 'Google Tag' which replaces the 'Global Site Tag'.)

I can see the headers options 'Configuration', 'Histroy' and 'Admin' at the top of the page, plus all thier subsequent options, but I can't see anything that resembles an option to exclude an IP Address. Could you please point us in the right direction? Many thanks in advance :)

    Thanks for the tutorial. My public IP address is an IPv6 address. It changes all the time. How does this work then?

      You’ll need to enter the range for a dynamic (changing IP address) whether it’s IPv6 or IPv4.

    I selected the data stream, but when I scrolled down, there was no option for "More Tagging Settings" Why won't that show up?

    On all of my accounts the 'more tagging settings' has disappeared so I can't define internal traffic as I used to! Very strange

    Huh? I don’t understand. Most of us have one IP address so why do we need to follow the 2nd rule? And what’s so important about debug I could care less to see my own traffic

    If you have a dynamic IP the right method is to create a cookie with GTM and then exclude visits when the cookie is set.

      This isn’t the best option. You need to identify the range and enter it in GA4 as I’ve covered.

      It is a bit more involved than Universal Analytics, but if you follow the steps I cover you’ll be fine. (Pause and rewatch if needed.)
