New Google Tag and Settings Variables in GTM (Missing GA4 configuration tag)

- Google has released a new tag template - Google Tag, which replaces the GA4 configuration tag. Also, they introduced two settings variables:
* Event settings variable
* Configuration settings variable
This means that the process of GA4 installation in Google Tag Manager is also changing.
So if you are wondering why is your GA4 configuration tag missing, this video will answer that.

For meta pixel/CAPI integration, should "x-fb-ck-fbp", "x-fb-ck-fbc" be inherited from google tag or should I set these as Event Settings? And is it correct to place "event_id" in Event Settings?

Hi Julius, thanks for the Updated video. I have my site with GA4 configuration, and as i understand and i also see at GA , the data still is being collected properly. Thats good. But now, for future configuration of new events/convertions should i configure Google Tag in GTM? To measure this events/convertions should i follow this new step by step video?
Is there a way to get the new Google Tag in an older container now? I have an older container but I'm trying to connect it to GA4 for the first time today and the legacy connect doesn't work yet the Google Tag isn't yet showing up.

Hey, Thanks for the entire series it's great and helpful. I am migrating the mobile app but cannot see the GTag option for iOS and Android apps. Whoever shows me the GTag configuration for the website, do we need to select something else for Mobile apps in GTM?

One quick thing, even after firing the Google tag again on the custom event, the automatically collected events do not receive the latest values. They are still stuck with the old values. Any thoughts?
Thanks for the clear video. =) I see that just by installing Google Tag code on website, it also gives useful events. Wouldn't that be sufficient compared to using GTM method, which is much more complicated ?

what are the chances that I did your other tutorial and I got this exact error! thank you for the videos, You're have been the most informative, and I very very much enjoyed the tutorials It helps me a lot as I am very green to Google Analytics and always stayed away due to being so complex with setups and reviewing the data! as a PS I would add missing as a keyword "Google analytics: GA4 configuration" or missing Google analytics: GA4 configuration as I searched for exactly that and no videos came up
Do you set the send_page_view parameter to false in the Google Tag and create it as an event on the side?

Shouldn't you refire the Google Tag on all pages + virtual pageviews anyway? That way the inheritance and set vars take precedence, much easier to do event (incl. pageview) tracking. Thanks for the video, haven't dug into this as of yet.
On some websites GA4 will be able to properly track virtual pageviews. But on many sites it won't. So you still need to handle that.
In case of a single page application isn't it possible to just use history change events as a secondary trigger next to the initial load for the Google Tag? This way the values of the variables should be updated every time the URL changes. Or am I missing something here?@@AnalyticsMania
Julius, I appreciate you and all of your efforts and I just have so many questions since I am now completely lost on this whole G Tag thing. First, Google is telling us we don't have to do any configuration b/c it's automatic. But from this video it looks like I have to reconfigure everything from front to back? Is that correct? I don't understand this "update" at all.

I'm sorry, but I watched this video 3 times from start to finish before reaching out & I just watched it again, and I'm still completely confused at to what specific actions I need to take in existing GTM containers, b/c of this update. From all of your actions in this video, it seems as though I'll now need to stop everything I'm working on and completely reconfigure everything from top to bottom for all GA4 events in every single GTM container, of which I don't even understand. It also seems that our data is now completely not viable at all until all of these changes are made to accommodate this Google tag update. Is that correct@@AnalyticsMania?

I was on the article ! Everything is ok now, in GTM I deleted the custom variable (GA4 measure ID), delete some browser plugins. After what, I didn't have to wait long before the event appeared in GA4
Is it better to use a Constant variable instead of the "Google Tag: Configuration Settings" variable? Wondering if this is a newer variable type that would be better to use than Constant.
I can't seem to see engagement rates and engagement scores for content groups, is there a way to resolve this?

What is new setting variable for? just for SPA sites? and what is replacing in regards of the old version of GTM?
I just gave an example of SPA. You can use it for various situations. It's similae to the UA settings variable.
if i'm running google ads campaign should i create the form sent tag as a google ads conversion or google analytics event?
I would create google ads conversion tag
and does that count the forms sent from other channels like social, direct, organic... and see them in analytics? @@AnalyticsMania
For the accounts which have the GA4 config, do we have to change them to google tag Id?
I said it in the video. Config tags will be migrated automatically.
so if i added campaign name and source in the tag configuration, i can read their data in GA4 without needing to attach utms in the campaigns ? If so this would be the greatest thing i have came a cross since long time
With old "configuration" tag, why not set a trigger for "all events". Like that it's updated for any tag using the configuration, isn't? I do that and it works well (NB: of course, my "configuration" does not fired a page_view tag each time, it's set up on a custom event of my SPA)
I don’t see this in GTM yet but I am seeing some bugs related to the old config tag
It's a gradual roll-out. At some point, your old containers will also start seeing this

Where did the user properties go? Do we need to re-configure them at the event level?
Since Google Tag now doesn't support user properties and our Config tags have automatically been transferred to Google Tags...

User properties are in the event settings variable. You can use it in the google tag
I can't understand the point of the Google Tag, what does it do? Cant I just use the event tag to send a page_view event along with all event settings? I used to fire the old config tag on every event anyway..?
Julius, have you noticed that the GA4 DebugView mode is no longer working properly since Google deployed the "Google tag" into GTM?
Working fine for me. However, debugview has been slower than usual lately

I'd like to track navigation bar clicks, but when inspecting my site, I do not see "site-nav_link" in the header... what should I do for click classes instead?
Maybe click id. If that is not available, then learning CSS selectors will be useful. Or ask a developer to add IDs (or other attributes) to the elements you want to track

I'm in the middle of the beginner GTM course currently. The Google Tag is not available yet for me to configure, but also my GA4 config tag has disappeared. What should I do?
GA4 config tag should be available in Tags > Google Analytics > Google Analytics 4 config (legacy)
@@AnalyticsMania It looks like the Configuration Tag disappeared from all of my GA4 event tags as wall. So I'll have to manually go in and update that once I create a new GA4 Config tag?

You are in the server container. You need to go to your web container instead.

What exactly does having "page_category" as a data layer mean in terms of html code? I need to have a .. ? And if so where does one set its value to homepage/articles etc.?

Why google analytics stream automatically creata tag outside of the container? Its really confusing

Don't click finish. Finish means "end debugging"

The Gtag TAG is not available under the Tag types. Why could this be?

If someone wants to test the new release and isn't ready in your current containers create a new container and you will find the new changes.

In your video th-cam.com/video/u_x5lVJMKZ0/w-d-xo.html you tell us that basic installation includes "All Pages" trigger. Here you choose "Initialization -All pages"
No big difference in most cases. But now, Google's recommendation is Initialization.

Sometimes you forget we are following you. Where you are giving instruction, then all of a sudden you go into these 3-5 second speed-mumbling while clicking stuff and I'm left with what the hell just happened? Then I do what the hell I thought you did, and it doesn't work. Example: The 4:29 mark, What the hell kind of instruction is that?
