    You have to watch this a few times to distinguish which one will be better for you. Its easy to get lost in the shuffle, if you aren't familiar with the both. Even though I know the difference between the M1 and M2 chip, it can be tough to keep up when your talking about pros and cons, in addition to performance. It's a good thing the air wasn't being discussed or I really would have been left in the woods. Thanks for the vid.

    Thanks for the great videos. I'm still in a conundrum on if or what I should upgrade to. I have a late 2018 MBP, with 1TB, 32GB and Vega 20. It's been a treat to use it, but recently, just having FCP and Photoshop open slows it down quite a bit. FCP on it's own seems fine and I only edit mostly 12 min long, 1080 video, with a few GoPro, iPhone 4K B-Roll. It also doesn't handle some effect well, without rendering that section. Processing time is bearable.
    It used to be there was just a couple of choice. Now, with the M1 and M2 MBAir and Pro's, I don't know what to get.
    When I got my MBP, I got it because it was the best of its time, but it doesn't seem like I need to spend that much anymore, for what I need.
    Any recommendation?

    I treated myself to a 14" MBP with the full Pro chip in April. It has been amazing to use. I love everything about it (SD card reader! Yeah), so I'm not sad I didn't wait for the recent M2 MacBooks, or even the next ones, presumably with the upgraded M2 Pro chips. You've got to jump in the water sometimes, and the 14" is such a perfect machine for audio & video production. I'm looking forward to where this Apple silicon project is going to in the future…

    Im glad i got the M1 macbook air. Im not a huge fan of the bulky design. 2020 Macbook air combines sleeks design with amazing performance. The one and only thing that slightly bothers me is the small screen (coming from windows, I used 15.4"), and the M2 is an improvement with smaller bezels. However, I learned to love the small and light design because combined with the crazy battery life, i almost use it like a tablet on the couch, on the desk, lap, bed... My windows laptop used to sit in the same place for weeks because it was heavy and bulky

    Remember the £600-700 extra for the MBP 14 Is 50% the cost of the MBP 13 in the first place! We are not talking a £200 upgrade.

      If you spec the MacBook Pro the way I would get it on apples website using the education discount it comes to 1579$ plus tax. With that you move up to the 16GB of ram and 512gb of storage and it already comes with a 10 core gpu. Buuuut the 14in pro with the same specs but with a higher 14 core gpu comes in at 1849$. So when compared like that you’re looking at a less than 300$ difference and you’re getting an xdr display, all the extra ports, and the better webcam. It’s hard to justify getting the lower pro. It’s all in how you spec it. But yes the bare bones lower pro with 8gb of ram and 256gb of ssd would be a relevant savings

    Guys please help. I got MBP 14, M1pro, 10 core, 32RAM. Pretty formidable beast but😭 it heats up just by watching TH-cam up to 50-60 degrees C. But my wife’s MBP 13 M1 with 16RAM is around 25 -40C. It drives me nuts. It is updated all the time. Do you guys have the same thing with your MBP14 inch?

    Apple is keeping the older chassis air and the 13in pro maybe to clear chassis and parts. Their true budget MacBook is the redesign air, which they will refresh at a lower cost next year.
    Once you spec the 13in pro to 14in base spec, very difficult not to go 14in.

      Same here. I can spec out an M2 MBA and it’s not much cheaper than base 14” M1 MBP. I know I don’t really NEED a MBP, but I could have it for not much more money and increase resale one day. But I love the design of the new M2 MBA.
      I may just hold off until hands on reviews arrive even at the cost of having to wait longer

      @J G that’s what I’m leaning towards as well. Other than design and battery, I can’t really see how the M2 MBA is the better option when spec’d out.
      This is truly Apple’s fault for having such an underperforming base MBA

    I have a hard time choosing, for the last 8 years I used base model
    Of pro and it worked fine for what I needed. Now was thinking to get pro 13 with additional ssd and gb however that will price it very similar to 14… I’m not in videography, computer science etc so not sure I need the capabilities of 14 pro? I’ll mainly use it for my business to have different apps open like zoom and my crm, emails. Maybe one day I’ll get into the world of video making and editing but not now. So not sure what to do, I like to travel a lot and I feel like 14 pro is way thicker than 13 pro with the Touch Bar. Any advice? I feel like I’ll waste 14 pro capabilities, at the same time saw comments about much better quality when it comes to looking at screen all day in 14 pro.

    I’m guessing most people who would choose the 13” MB Pro over the M1 or M2 Air would not be happy with 8gb of ram.
    If you bump up the M2 MB Pro’s ram to 16gb and SSD to 512gb, you’re spending $1700.
    An extra $300 would get you the base model 14” Pro with 16/512, a larger brighter and much better display, ports galore, better speakers, way better cooling system, and performance that on most ways is as good or better.

    Great video! I really like seeing the new laptops and workstations Apple are putting out.
    For college (new freshman at Texas A&M engineering), I recently got a Lenovo P1 gen 4 Thinkpad (11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-11800H @ 2.30GHz, 32 gigs of ram and 1 TB storage) due to a couple classes down the road where I would need a beefy enough workstation for CAD and the other programs (pursuing electrical engineering).
    While I absolutely love Apple, and have a 13 inch MacBook Pro from I want to say 2017, I knew that as fast as it is, 8 gigs of ram was not enough (according to device requirements from the school website). That and the fact that most of the work programs that can be ran on OS are not optimized, it breaks my heart to not be able to use it.
    Even the previous MacBook pros with the intel processors were recommended on the device list for engineering students, so I was definitely debating going with one of these. It just sucks that windows makes it so hard for these laptops to put out their best performance, and also that much of the programs for school just won't run the same or as well on a MacBook. I hope that one day, optimization will not even matter, because MacBooks are just the better machines for many things. And I LOVE my ThinkPad. Best typing IMO, and incredibly fast and reliable. I just really love apple as well and wish that it was easier to use them as a student.

    • @charliegundlach8388
      @charliegundlach8388 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kateleenveano9254 I’m not an expert but I asked upperclassmen and computer science majors love apple as long as you know what apps you are going to use. So yes if you won’t struggle without windows, go for it. Windows makes students’ lives easier so think about that before you buy. A lot of school applications use windows or are just easier to install there, and may not be on Mac Operating System. If you run windows on Mac you can do that too.

      Personally I bought the MBP 13 M1 as I know what heat can do to a Laptop or PC. I know they are throttled when they get hot but I don’t want a MacBook Air getting hot in my lap or table. I know you have to push it really hard for this, however my MBP 13 was reduced last year and I preferred the spec to the MBA M1.
      Heat = slowly killing the device. That’s how I look at it.
      You choose depending on what you use it for. (Web and emails it’s not going to get even warm)

    • @rebeccareilly7819
      @rebeccareilly7819 ปีที่แล้ว

      If cost isn’t a concern and you just want it to last, I’d go for the M2. At some point, MacOS updates will most likely stop supporting the M1 Air before ceasing support of the M2.

  • @loughrey101
    @loughrey101 ปีที่แล้ว +28

    I see a lot of TH-camrs going on about the single core advantage of the M2 over the M1 Pro but really 9% faster is very minor in real world conditions. It's really not a reason to choose the M2 over the M1 Pro, even if you do a lot of single core tasks. You'll only see the difference in synthetic benchmarks, but it's too small to notice in real world use. GPU is were the M2 is at but against the M1 Pro, it's not even close. The M1 Pro also has double the memory bandwidth which is far more important than that minor CPU single-core advantage.
    The biggest advantage with the M2 is definitely the media engine but who would buy a consumer laptop if they work with 8K or 4K 120hz videos? Waiting for the M2 Pro would be better for that kind of hardware video professional.
