So you're saying the GT feels like a "Grand Tourer"....huh. Who would've thought...
Yeah one of the more silly comments for 2024..
Fanboys have overhyped the Type R to oblivion, and Honda have priced it accordingly. 50k for what is still a FWD economy hatch is ludicrous.
Imagine paying 43K for a base mustang GT and you can't even seat people in the rear without cutting their blood circulation. Can't take a turn faster than a FWD economy hatch or even worse stop in a shorter distance.
This is really ludicrous.
They didn't price it accordingly... They did it civically. 😅
Ok. I get what you’re saying, but it is fantastic on track. It’s frightening capable for a front wheel drive car. I still think it’s an overpriced hatchback, but in its market it’s the fastest one, on track. And it’s cool trick is fitting 2 people, a set of slick tires and all tools inside and driving to the stack to swap.
I think I’d rather have an Integra type S.
Everyone knows people with Mustangs aren’t fanboys😂😂😂😂
Comparing a civic type r to another car using drag racing is like taking a road bike against a mountain bike in the forest trails.
This car was not designed to outperform in the straights.
This is what bothers me about many car reviews. Some of these need more specialized reviews rather than hey look how much slower a 4 cylinder car is from an 8 cylinder car. I mean its a no-brainer it's like asking how is a butter knife at cutting a steak or a scalpel at cutting a tree?
@@marcinhernik1270 the type R still gets slapped by a regular GT with PP on a track, i don’t know why yall are coping, it isn’t a good car in anything for the money.
@@oscaraguilera4172umm it is FAR better than the Mustang, MOVE ON
@@Georgewashington-o7m At what? Fuel efficiency and functionality? Which are both things nobody looks for when they buy a sports car. The GT beats it in the straights and track. It doesn't even beat European rivals either. It would be awesome cheap fun if it were cheaper but it's not. Thus it fails at everything except reliability potentially but the poor car was sent to compete in a market it fails at and it costs too much.
@@lidolf8168it’s not beating a type r on any track, what have you been watching😂😂😂. I get it”fanboy”. My brother has a Mustang and it can’t keep up with my 18 year old S2000 if you put a curve in front of him. He still thinks it’s faster than a NASCAR😂😂😂😂
Mustang is a drag King but the Type R is a track King. They both different things well. If it was Darkhorse though they would be closer on a track.

Engines nice but the Civic just drives so much better
That misaligned shift knob on type r is unsettling 😂
i own an 11th gen si with the same shifter setup, and its not as bad as it looks, its just to leave space for the buttons and because of the reverse placement being to the far right and down, it feels totally normal to shift, infact its one of the best shifters ive used!
Both great cars to drive. The civic is too expensive. Not to mention the astronomical adjusted dealership markup prices even before options. But I gotta admit, that power plant is amazing and let’s not forget that as a fwd car, NO TORQUE STEER!!
Oh it has torque steer, but in a very different way than other cars since the ecu does weird shit to make it feel different.
It is NOT to expensive, it is worth EVERY penny and then some
For a 60k Honda, they should have put in red back seats. Looks so ghetto with black seats in back. Honda cut corners.
@@Georgewashington-o7m No. For the 60k it's worth. Go get the integra version for the same price.
@@benjaminmatute9085 lmfao $60k for a Honda Civic with an R logo and turbo, people have certainly lost their minds hahaha
I own a Shelby Gt 500 and a New 2023 Type R and love them both. Different in many good ways! Except for the crazy ADM on the Type R…..
People love to talk about how the mustang is priced at 40k but fail to realize that really there’s a hidden 20k you’ll have to pay for in the future. That is, when it loses traction and crashes into a tree or just breaks down. 😅
This was an interesting comparison but I would love to see a comparison between the Civic type R and the Hyundai Elantra N because they seem to be pretty close and it would be a cool comparison
I'm so glad you actually use the drag strip mode because in that car it makes a huge difference.
Thank you for recording this in 30, and not 24fps 👍
The mustang has no competition for the price.
Umm there is PLENTY, and this Honda is one of them

Camaro better
I picked up a 2024 mustang GT with the performance pack for 53k. Definitely has better handling and brakes with that option. Lower than there 60k mentioned.
These comparison always brings out the fan boys. You don't need to talk down another car to bring yours up.
That’s not what they are doing. It only happens in this comment section.
EXACTLY
Facts buy what you like drive what you want it doesnt matter unless you tryna have the fastest 😂 tx2k will still beat you in a drag race or street
I would rather have the Mustang for $45,000 but if the civic was more like $35,000 my answer would be different,
I like them both overall
The 195hp 2001 Integra Type-R was $26,000. $26,000 in 2001 equals $44,500 today accounting for inflation. That was for a NA 1.8 liter with none of the fancy computer screen BS that people "need" these days. In 2001 people thought that $26K was too much for the Type-R, but when you built a Type-R out of a GSR or base model you would quickly find that $26K was a bargain for the R-spec Integra. Today those 20+yr old ITR's are very collectable and command very high resale prices. I suspect the new Type-R's will age well too.
Still love that type R, small little tune, let em run again.
Amazing machine in the Honda Type R.
The Civic is a great car and all, but when you put it up against a Mustang, it really shows how Honda priced it too high. The CTR was known for cheap speed but it isn't cheap anymore and really should have topped off at a good $5k less.
The CTR was never known for cheap speed, that's the mustang.
Lol ford is cheap speed, are you serious?
Mustang is made for straight line speed ...the civic is made for corners. Two completely different purposes..
Probably bc the civic stock was made for a different reasons
Remember when a wise TFL employee said "We're not scientists. We're car guys". 😂 True and I'm enjoying the entertainment value here.
I love my mustang. I use it to drive to work. It would be nice if ford made a sedan like the ford crown Victoria. I'll just have to buy used to use as a town car.
Needs a lap battle to even things out. The FWD civic typeR is especially made for lap times. But we all know this.
@@noirrain6005 yeah thats true!
Mustang would chew it up on the track too, and that's the base Mustang, take on a PP or a Dark Horse and total embarrassment is your future.
@@BigTimeRushFan2112 umm no it wouldn't, the mustang would have ZERO chance against the Honda
@@Georgewashington-o7m LOL. Put down the bottle and go sleep it off fan boi.

Wow the coyote sounds amazing now! I don’t think you even need any aftermarket exhaust equipment. The Civic is worth every penny, but I don’t know if it’s because I’m getting old, but the four door hatch looks kinda ugly. I’d probably get the Si.
That finish line cam….. the sound from that yote is awesome
Apples vs Oranges
The Mustang has 50% more horsepower while *not* being 50% heavier. And is somehow priced in a similar ballpark...
Now, would AWD have somewhat equalized this situation? Perhaps, but it's just more weight, complexity and cost. Transverse platforms just don't have much of a place in this price range.
Mustangs are quick in the high speed range, it would still smoke the civic even if it has AWD. Put some fat slicks on the Mustang GT and they’re one of the fastest cars on the street.

What a time to live in, both Americans and Japanese are making some of the most epic cars they've ever produced!
This isn’t a fair comparison, the civic isn’t made for straight line drag styled races. No car with non-rice wings that aggressive are.
This car is designed for the twisties.
Obviously. With that, TFL has always done fun mashups for giggles. I wouldn't get up set over a video like this.
Technically = big screen is the dumbest thing ever. If they do the same thing and the screen is appropriately sized who cares about the screen size. You aren’t watching movies. Software and implementation are way more important to me
Mustang all day 🤩
Nah
I bought a 2021 GT 3 months ago with 30k miles for $30k out the door. The S650 is basically a face lifted S550. So if you’re looking to get the cheapest best bang for buck Mustang the s550s are the way to go right now especially since prices dropped after the release of the S650.
The happy face when the guy driving the Honda gets into the Mustang and starts driving 🤣
Get a beater, and a hyper electric scooter to drag race friends on. Youll have money in your account and the dealers will be forced to drop prices, while consumers are still having fun.
The civic looked like it barely moved
I owned a 2022 Civic-R and as awesome as that car is the 2024 Acura Integra is somehow even better. You all need to get your hands on an Integra and do some videos with it. I just traded in my Type-R for an Integra Type-S and hands down it is better...and has much better seats.
im pretty torn between the two, always wanted the Type-R, what makes you feel that it is hands down better? I did think the back seats being leather helped it be less cheap looking, the front is debatable with the TypeR buckets vs the leather. Aside from that it looked like the Acura was just a toned down TypeR (maybe not as great on the track).
You guys should set up a salom course to demo the handling . When u guys compare specs tommy forgets to give mustang tire size and brake size if your gonna throw specs let's hear it from both sides. Two other considerations with these tests reliability and resale. My bet is that the Honda takes both. Fun video though
Waah, my tires are smaller. Stfu
The Honda is way overpriced and overhyped. A few upgrades in the Mustang would make it corner better than the type r. Keep in mind they’re comparing the top of the line Honda to a base model GT.
@@angelgjr1999keep in mind it’s a 4cyl. VS 8!
Have you checked the resale on GT Mustangs lately? 2017 for 2017 they're at least equal with Mustangs going as high as $36,000. As for reliability and durability, smart money is on an N/A V8 any day. Turbo 4's are not exactly known for durability and low maintenance.
@@francoisrivard893 Honda is known for quality and long lasting engines however. Have not checked the values but be nice if TFL included this in there report was my point
I'm not very knowledgeable about cars, but it seems odd to compare the two. A honda civic type r is obviously meant for someone wants a more powerful daily driver than your traditional sedans or coupes, but also wants to maintain fuel efficiency and comfort. It's powerful, but power isn't the only goal. A mustang is a classical muscle car that's meant to look, feel, and sound powerful, though not as comfortable and spacious as the civic. They're different cars for different purposes.
Now personally the Type R doesn't make sense for me since I would prefer to go all in on comfort or power rather than try to mix the two and get the worst of both worlds so I'd go with the mustang if I hated my neighbors, but a regular civic if I wanted a daily driver.
what some of you ppl don't understand is civics are for TRACK not for the strip if you were to go to a track and you test drove both you would probably take the civic
13.66 a 111mph. It’s crazy what elevation does. I’m at sea level and my 19 gt 10 speed on a street tire went 12.06 @ 119mph
Civic Type R really needs awd for the price. Test the last 2024 Camaro vs that Mustang.
That’s not the point of a CTR. Every single Type R has been FWD. If you need AWD there’s plenty of options like Golf R, WRX, Focus RS and GR Corolla
For the price? this car is cheap
Then it becomes slow in the corners like the competition. Golf R and GR Corolla
No thanks
Fun fact:
All of the car you mentioned with all mighty AWD are slower around a track than the CTR.
Source: Car And Driver Lightning Lap leader board.@@macneill949
it's faster around a track, and in general...... so your opinion is stupid and incorrect@@Marbind
But the civic isn't drag racing lol for 50k it better be good at everything. Let's keep this shit real
Civic: back seat. track readiness and mpg is a positive... Mustang: power and looks. Too different to be compared.
Mustang also sound
You have to completely disable traction control in the type R. It makes a big difference.
I had the previous type r and I now have a mustang gt and on a A or B road the type r would leave the mustang miles behind it has a better chassis better suspension and gearbox but the sound of a v8 on a straight road is very hard to beat . And even though I love both car's equally the mustang puts a bigger smile on my face
Price range is fair enough, but the Civic is at its highest performance spec. Maybe see if Ford has a 2.3 litre Mustang with the performance pack as a $45,000 comparison. THAT might be very close! The civic will still handle a bit better due to 5he weight difference.
The real accurate price comparison would be the Type-R vs Mustang w/performance package. Some people like the V8 sound and power. Others prefer a turbo 4 cylinder with red seats. I personally would get the Mustang w/PP. But I won’t, don’t worry, I’ll still be driving a shtbox Ford Ranger.
The civic type R needs to be retired. All other manufacturers have caught and surpassed this vehicle, years ago. Price is stupid and not worth it
Your both idiots. You don't understand refine engineering. You just want cheap pos autos that drive straight fast.
When was the type R ever about 0-60 times? You buy RWd if you want to drag race. It's a fwd corner carver.....a track weapon.
@@KC-lg8qf 😅 No you dont buy rwd for drag race you ither buy awd or fwd for drag race.
@@totov7673 AWD maybe..... definitely not fwd. That's ridiculous.
That civic is stock that's why it won't catch up with the mustang it needs to be modified it don't suck
This comes in at 2nd place to the lastest Hoonigan "This vs That."
I love me a good FWD hot hatch but 50k for one hell nah.
What? A 5-liter V8 can accelerate faster than a 2- liter 4 cylinder? Who'd of thought that ?
BTW that 4 cylinder cost more than that v8 😂 junk honda
The type R is an overpriced 4 banger with a manual transmission. With some of these crazy dealer markups you'r looking at almost M2/Dark horse money. Which even if the type R was a little faster around a track (which it isn't) that's so much more car for the money. Besides who's gonna track it except for the select few. Everybody knows the real races happened on the street. Its still a good car, Honda did a good job, but the price should be somewhere in the 30's.
You never had me. You never had your car. 1:57
need to rsce the mustang and type R up and down the ike come summer amd i bet mustang would b back down ordering lunch and probably finished with said lunch lol
The Type R is not for drag racing but hey it does make better MPGs than the stang 😢
The CTR is a track car. They aren't even in the same league.
Most people compare the price of a car to the hp, 0-60 & 1/4 mile time. People talk out of there ass when they have zero experience on how the vehicles perform in the real world. Unintelligible people who base their opinions off TH-cam videos 🤦♂️🤦♀️🤦
I’ll take both
The type R is in G70 3.3t and Stinger Gt territory and those cars 10x better. True awd or rwd.. Way more power and list goes on
Civic has more space way more comfortable and turns without hitting the crowds 😂
I have to say, I wish they had changed the 10 speed. Its good, but when tuned, it gets a little jerky. It doesn't feel as smooth as a 6 or even 8.
The real fantasy is that you definitely can't find the Civic for $45k; I'm guessing getting the Mustang at that price is also impossible.
I feel like a the good thing about the mustang is you can option it out to kinda do anything you need. Where is the type R is kinda you just get the type R package and that's it. Great car but I do like the the Mustang a little bit more for some spirited driving.
Classic American challenge, a straight line
I just can't see why anyone would buy the Civic for the same money.
I thought he was going to do the ecoboost vs type R… this isn’t even a challenge…
Too bad an ex Stig couldn't compare their times on a track where HP, weight, suspension, tires and handling all come together.
Compare the Honda to an ecoboost stang with the performance track pack. That would be fair.
It's fun watching so many opinions that are all convinced they're right, flying around like ping pong balls that end up falling flat, ultimately getting lost in the interwebs, serving no purpose. 😆
Of course the Mustang is faster in a straight line, put them against each other on the Nurburgring stock for stock and the Civic would eventually lap it.
The words “performance” and “front wheel drive” are mutually exclusive….
No lift shift helps about 1 second
Should’ve done Stinger GT Vs Mustang GT
Silly question for any real man. 4 doors or 2? Always 2, 4 is 2 too many to be cool. 4cyl or V8 "I like JDM cars and..." lame. V8 always.
