It always bothered me growing up, watching the Jerry Springer show and Maury, how those shows made a guessing game of these women's transitions. They would ask the audience to essentially guess who they thought was amab, so the cis girls would get the opportunity to feel offended if someone dare imagine that they weren't assigned female at birth furthering the dysphoria of trans women by telling them that their existence is an insult to cis girls. I think it was an irresponsible representation of trans women and I'm so happy to see transgender women coming forward in the media and saying "Enough is enough"

I transitioned 20 years ago, worked hard educating people, speaking on college campuses, radio, TV and in newspapers. When I see these beautiful women, with a real platform for dignified discourse on the issue of gender. I feel like the work I did wasn't wasted. This was an excellent chat. The points they made about transgender 101 questions reminds me of Oscars backstage interview with Jamie Fox and Jenifer Hudson AFTER she won for best supporting role. All of the "journalist" were asking Black actors 101 questions. Jenifer Hudson was asked about her weight. She just won an Oscar, what the heck does that has to do with anything. Another example is Joan Rivers. I appreciate Joan Rivers (may she rest in peace) but every time she had Black guest on her "In The Bed with Joan" online talk show, her questioning and/or response was always centered around race. For God sake, you had Rupaul on your show and all you can think of are transgender 101 questions? Really? He's not even a transgender. You had an opportunity to ask him so many in-depth questions but instead came off offensive and unprofessional as if you didn't do your research. A real journalist would be prepared!

A woman I used to work with has a 6 yr old transgender child. She began at a very young age displaying signs that she was not comfortable with her gender. Her mother is very supportive, but obviously going through a lot. All the changes have been made at home to accomodate the new outward appearance including a name change, but the community they live in is a different story. She says people confront her all the time about "What's going on with her child?" I find this subject very interesting.
I love these two! I've been thinking about the tiresome Trans 101 discussions. They bother me too. But then it clicked. That part about education. I think the rest of America is just not up to speed on the issue. Educate us! There has to be more dialogue on respectful terminology, as well as WHY the talks on transitioning are frustrating. I get it, I truly do. But when you watch that terrible Don Lemon interview, you can see that the mainstream is just beginning to explore this issue. Keep it up. the reason these discussions are so tiring is because that is literally all these women are ever asked. they are such amazing activists, many of them pour their hearts out in front of people they think are listening BECAUSE this is so important to them, they do so much and then they're reduced to their bodies and to their transition again like none of that even matters. trans women are reduced to their bodies already, seen as sex objects (the stereotype of the sleazy, dirty trans woman street walker) or freaks to ogle at (the stereotype of the woman with tree trunk legs, adams apple and a crotch bulge, the "shes a man!" reveal trope, etc. all reducing these women to their bodies.) most people, even children and older people are aware of how to use google - they can look up "what does transitioning mean for trans women/trans men?" "what kind of things do trans people go through?" "how can i talk about these things respectfully?" those sorts of common questions. there is so little value in having this discussion over and over BECAUSE of the availablilty of that information. it's not up to these women to "educate", which im sure to you means "talk over and over about hormones so that they can be gawked at by a studio audience". this is literally exactly what they were saying in the video, the entire time.

Looking at these two trans-women, they're very real. There is absolutely nothing about them that is mannish or hard looking. Yet, when you watch the depictions of trans-women on TV, they are almost always depicted as very hard and brickish looking.
The interest you generate from society is the result of the basic --- changing your sex --- so the spark and curiosity will revolve around that! No on cares about the other facets that make you a person. They should, but they don't. As a black gay man, walking don't the street that is what society sees and that is what sparks the debate. It's not whether I have three degrees from Harvard. It will always be about the basic --- the 101, because of the curiosity.

The bible has noble transgender figures in it, the old testament and the new testament. EUNUCHS are Transgender individuals and not all of them were castrated against their will. In Matthew 19:12, it also mentions how some Eunuchs are born as such in their mother's womb(hermaphrodites) and there are those that made themselves Eunuchs(transsexuals/genderqueers). The bible even depicts angels(genderless or both genders) as being transgender or both women and men in Revelations 9:8.

Especially Laverne, she made a film and helped release a trans woman of color from prison named CeCe MacDonald (spelling may be off). Anyways, I really admire these women but you're right. I don't know if we'll know if they give back to charities etc, but they are activists none the less by providing visibility, opportunity models, spreading awareness, and actively aiding those struggling in the trans community. Janet Mock was big on trying to aid Jane Doe, the 16 yr old trans WOC in prison. I hope you're able to see all the good they are doing and still trying to do(:. I think the rest of America is just not up to speed on the issue. Educate us! There has to be more dialogue on respectful terminology, as well as WHY the talks on transitioning are frustrating. I get it, I truly do. But when you watch that terrible Don Lemon interview, you can see that the mainstream is just beginning to explore this issue. Keep it up. Stay in the public eye, be brave, and spread love. From a straight identifying woman, I support you!
the reason these discussions are so tiring is because that is literally all these women are ever asked. they are such amazing activists, many of them pour their hearts out in front of people they think are listening BECAUSE this is so important to them, they do so much and then they're reduced to their bodies and to their transition again like none of that even matters. trans women are reduced to their bodies already, seen as sex objects (the stereotype of the sleazy, dirty trans woman street walker) or freaks to ogle at (the stereotype of the woman with tree trunk legs, adams apple and a crotch bulge, the "shes a man!" reveal trope, etc. all reducing these women to their bodies.) most people, even children and older people are aware of how to use google - they can look up "what does transitioning mean for trans women/trans men?" "what kind of things do trans people go through?" "how can i talk about these things respectfully?" those sorts of common questions. there is so little value in having this discussion over and over BECAUSE of the availablilty of that information. it's not up to these women to "educate", which im sure to you means "talk over and over about hormones so that they can be gawked at by a studio audience". this is literally exactly what they were saying in the video, the entire time.

there are so many judgmental ignorant people, they must have felt so smart and so good about themselves, being negative and being ignorant.
why do non trans people always feel the need to rub it in. i honestly don't know if im female neurologically but i feel female and when i try to live as a man it is extremely uncomfortable. Maybe im neither. Maybe i'm inter sex. i just dont worry about it its confusing. I identify as a woman because thats the most comfortable thing to do and it makes me happy. Looking at these two trans-women, they're very real. There is absolutely nothing about them that is mannish or hard looking. Yet, when you watch the depictions of trans-women on TV, they are almost always depicted as very hard and brickish looking.

The interest you generate from society is the result of the basic --- changing your sex --- so the spark and curiosity will revolve around that! No on cares about the other facets that make you a person. They should, but they don't. As a black gay man, walking don't the street that is what society sees and that is what sparks the debate. It's not whether I have three degrees from Harvard. It will always be about the basic --- the 101, because of the curiosity.

I had to sign an affidavit of identity just the other day that the name used for an oil lease was in fact my name. But I had the documents to prove the that I was in fact the same person. The bible has noble transgender figures in it, the old testament and the new testament. EUNUCHS are Transgender individuals and not all of them were castrated against their will. In Matthew 19:12, it also mentions how some Eunuchs are born as such in their mother's womb(hermaphrodites) and there are those that made themselves Eunuchs(transsexuals/genderqueers). The bible even depicts angels(genderless or both genders) as being transgender or both women and men in Revelations 9:8.

How come you dont see any of these famous trans folk who claim to represent the trans community actually putting time in at support groups. Not just standing behind a mic promoting them selves and their life story. But actually going to street level and helping trans folk. Vickytg23 You're 100% correct, there is a disgusting disproportion of homeless youth who are trans. Activism comes from spreading awareness too which is what Janet Mock and Laverne Cox constantly do. Especially Laverne, she made a film and helped release a trans woman of color from prison named CeCe MacDonald (spelling may be off). Anyways, I really admire these women but you're right. I don't know if we'll know if they give back to charities etc, but they are activists none the less by providing visibility, opportunity models, spreading awareness, and actively aiding those struggling in the trans community. Janet Mock was big on trying to aid Jane Doe, the 16 yr old trans WOC in prison. I hope you're able to see all the good they are doing and still trying to do(:. Hopefully more trans* folk will have the same platform and visibility to promote more changes!
