Maybe adjusting the air/fuel after putting the hose on would help

What might work is buying waterproof prefilter/filter wrap media like Outerwears or K&N prefilter type stuff and make it work in the factory location. Anytime you mess with ducting on a carb you change flow/vacuum signal characteristics hence needing different tuning. Try breathing through a straw.

When I first watched this video, I was wandering if it ran ok with the hose. I used a hose like that on a go cart to put the air cleaner up on the roll bar out of the dirt. The 5 hp Briggs would not run with it even with the air cleaner off the top of the hose.

After doing this I noticed the bike won t run right. I think it would need to be re jetted. Since then I just pull the hose off for normal riding , I f we get to a puddle my son can 't avoid I hook the snorkel hose back up. I plan on figuring out to make it run with the full snorkel hooked up.....but not enough time :(
