What? Chinese are notorious for small carbs. Even Taiwanese have small carbs. Add to that the poor build quality, and you're losing a lot for a few dollars. Replace the carb with a pwk.
Those chinese carbs are not super precise so eventhough the needle adjustment should only affect mid range, if the needle is not sized properly even at full throttle on the mid range lean needle groove, the tip of the needle could still be in the way of the passage at the top of the emulsion tube, restricting some fuel to fully flow. So positioning it for rich mixture at the lowest groove should be something to try.
Remember when Pep Boys sold dirt bikes? I got the Baja "49cc" for Christmas in middle school. I used quotations because it was a 4 speed semi-auto, big enough for a 12 year old and would go like 45-50mph top end.
Part of the learning process also is possibly up jetting the carburetor or down jetting sometimes you need a little bit richer mixture and also the air fuel mixture usually about one and a 1/2 to 2 turns out adjust it with the bike warm and find the sweet spot (where the idol comes up a little) Then back it off about a quarter turn open so you know you're not to lean....
Spring has nothing to do with gas flow and thus, has absolutely no effect on bogging/fuel starvation whatsoever! The spring simply effects how quick, or slow your throttle and slide respond, up n down inside the carb. If its still bogging, you may need to play around with air/fuel mixture and/or jetting sizes. My advice to you young man,, is to learn, before you attempt to teach! 👍

I moved the retaining pin on the needle down so that 3 notched lines were visible on the top of the needle. It runs flawlessly and the torque difference is very noticeable verses the stock carb.

Just bought another pitbike myself and had a similar problem. It’s got a YX140, and I’m pretty sure the guy I bought it from had changed the carb at some point. But from what I’ve learnt, if it’s bogging when you quickly open the throttle, it’s running rich and needs leaning off. If the throttle is hanging when you let off, it’s running lean. But it could be down to a few things. The best thing to do is check for any air leaks around your manifold (spray a bit of carb cleaner or something around it, if the revs change, you’ve got a leak). Then make sure your throttle cable has no kinks and isn’t getting stuck somewhere. If all of that’s fine, try turning your air/fuel screw a 1/4 turn clockwise. It should be on the bottom of the carb. That’ll make you air/fuel mix richer. Also, check the spark plug, that will give you a good indication of how it’s running. In my case, I think the carb I had didn’t have the right jetting. So I bought a genuine Mikuni VM26 (665 Model) from ParkerRacing here in the UK. Works an absolute dream. Wasn’t expecting much of a difference really... But, fucking shit, it proved me wrong! Anyway, nice video man, keep it up!👍🏻
Thanks. Hope you see this, with that being said would you honestly think this is a fun pit bike for someone whos used to riding things with 20x the power of the tao 125 ? Thinking about buying obe

@@carlosespinosa602 Shake your head? At what point did I say the pitbike I bought was an Apollo Z40? I said the engine was a YX140. Which is a common 140cc pitbike engine. If the bike came with a Nibbi carb that had no major problems, obviously I wouldn’t remove it… But it didn’t. It came with a bad Chinese VM26 copy. Hence why I bought the genuine Mikuni VM26 tuned for that specific engine from Parker Racing. Maybe try comprehending a word of what I posted instead of talking shit.
@ExoticMoTioN that plastic gasket is to thermally isolate the carb from the heat of the engine, its so close that it would cause the fuel to vaporize in the float bowl more than without it. that foam air filter will filter better and flow better if you use proper foam filter oil or spray. you should also be swapping the Chinese spark plugs out for genuine NGK plugs. adjusting the valve lash after an hour or so of running.
What do you do with the old air filter? Do you detach the line it's hanging from and tape the line to the side of the bike, or is there a way to detach the whole line?
The two o rings on the manifold to carb aren’t supposed to be together that’s why you have rev hang when you release the throttle to idle. Air is getting past the carb and into the engine so it won’t run right at high rpms because your fuel air fuel mixture is now off no amount of tuning will fix this until you flip around that spacer simple issue but greatly effects the performance of the bike
My sons 70cc Apollo had the same exact thing when I took off the carb. Didnt notice till reassembly. I was like "Wait, wtf am I missing here?" Realized it was a china problem not me.
hey so do i need to change the carb or no? cause i am gettin gmy first dirt bike and i dont know if to leave it as is or if to get some better parts? , idk id be very grateful for some guidance on how to make my dirt bike better . tahnks
There may be a brass cover over the pilot screw, drill that out carefully as not to hit the screw, open that up 2 1/2 out and you’ll be in the ballpark
The line that you took off is supposed to lead the fuel somewhere else when you fall over or crash, instead of it getting on the hot motor and may catch fire. Most bikes do not have these but they should.
@@officialsl1m309 yeah, but if for some reason there's a nick/crack in the boot of the spark plug cable. It could have a small arc grounding out and u not know it. Therefore making a recipe for disaster! It may be unlikely. But if it can happen, it's definitely reason for concern. Especially if the bikes rode by kids. Ijs
I'd also buy after market exhausts the stock ones have teo catalytic converters which restricts power, u dont have to replace the stock carb you just need ajust the idle screw and re jet the carb also getting the head port and polished will give it more torque
I spent quite some time on my son's PZ 27 carb, for bogging at WOT cleaned the carb, no change, drilled out all the brass covers to access the adjustment screws and adjust it properly and... no change, checked the spark plug, all good, changed main jet from bigger to smaller, no change...Tried to adjust the float level and throttle needle adjustment and still no change... I think those carbs are built lean in order to pass modern emission tests on a 70's technology. I noticed a suction air sound at the main air jet when pulling the throttle, my next step, look into drilling the main air jet to feed more air to the emulsion tube. Will keep you posted.
You should have mentioned to be very careful when putting the intake manifold back on, as not to thread the bolts into the cylinder head. Don't over tighten and use a torque wrench if possible. The alloy is very soft. I have made this mistake before.
That pink tube you removed is a drain just like the one on the bottom of the carb. The drain on the side helps to keep your carb from flooding the engine when you lay the bike down or flip it over, removing that tube wont hurt anything but its gonna dump gas all over your carb & engine if you lay it down/flip it over. The drain on the bottom makes sure the carburator bowl doesnt get overfilled while normal riding.
Dude, lemme just say I love your videos! Been watching for about 3 days now and I really enjoy your vids. Planning on purchasing an Apollo, and the fact that you that you included the carb in the description is awesome. Been looking for one and couldn’t find a carb that’s worth buying. getting the needle in the throttle slide adjusted to the best position along with jetting the carb for vest performance is a must. it takes alot of tries to get it perfect but its worth it.
Put a light film of grease on the o ring for your carburetor heat spacer to help it stay in place better. The black plastic spacer is made of plastic to help keep the carburetor from heating up.

If there is still bogging issues down low or up high after adjusting the air mixture screw you can try changing the jets, and then lastly try adjusting the throttle needle up or down.
You are correct. All the stock carbs are junk on these bikes, but unless you're REALLY desperate DO NOT BUY a chinese made Mikuni knock off. It's not much better than the carb you replaced. You can always tell a knock off because a real 26mm Mikuni throttle slide and spring is almost TWICE that size. Just buy a real Mikuni. Better yet, if you really wanna make your bike come alive buy a NIBBI 26mm racing carb and throttle cable with a NIBBI 48mm racing filter. Also a new high performance CDI and spark plug. And 97 octane fuel. ALWAYS 97! People don't make fun of my Chinese pit bike any more. Lol. Btw, I have an Apollo RFZ DB x18 125cc. Edit: You'll also need the intake adapter as the NIBBI carb won't bolt up otherwise...
Hey man your one of the few people on here that seem to know what they are talking about.I have the same bike as you I love it! I had bought a "MIKUNI" carb last fall to put on it because the stock carb couldn't be taken apart easy and was giving me problems overflowing and causing gas to dump onto the engine. I'd like to get the mikuni to work but am having problems with it not going back to idle when I let off the throttle. Not sure if its the manifold (since the bolt holes dont really line up but it sounds like you got around that with the Nibb. can you send me a link to the carb and that adapter you got. Also sorry to ramble on but did you have to do any jetting afterwards? I'm basically at sealevel.
More like it forces the engine to inhale oil contaminated regurgitated exhaust which blew by the rings... this will gum up the carb eventually. I always disconnect the puke tube and let it vent out under my bike.
Been doing alot of research on this bike the past few days. I think I'm going to buy one, I haven't seen any bad info about them other then the carb upgrade.
Got a little Tao Tao ATV for the kids and I gotta say I really love how simple it is to get to everything and how simple the design is. I've seen far more expensive stuff that makes every minor bit of maintenance and repair a complete cluster in terms of being able to get to things.
That hose on air cleaner acts as a pcv valve. Positive crank case ventilation. It clears out the crank case of the oil vapors, and it creates a vacuum that helps the rings on the piston stay against the cylinder wall
Keep up the good work bud, keep learning and above all have fun with the two wheeler. Haters gonna hate, keyboard cowboys. Buying a china bike is fine. Learn to turn wrenches and ride for less than a dime. Chinese 110 $600 new, honda 110 $2500 new or 1,700 used. Yeh the bikes are crap but they get you started. Japan has priced the entry level bike out of reach for the common kid unfortunately.
@@tebibyte2357 Ya I have considered getting them before. But for now I'm just going to install some good filters and a new carb on the Chinese 125 then once I get comfortable enough sell it and pick up a better bike when I feel confident. You actually heard those rubber lines hitting against the bike. The needle did not move. The only other sound made was the spring as he was tightening the throttle cable. It made the same sound when he was removing it.
Bog is when you twist the throttle and it starts to die because its flooding the engine. Your just hitting a flat spot it the power curve. When swapping carbs you can change the power curve. Also you installed the spacer backwards
Well the “knock off” is a real mikuni carb but it didn’t pass Honda standards so they rebuilt it but then it still can’t go to Honda so they sell it for cheaper via third party sellers, it’s actually a great way to save $100
As best I can tell you replace the Chinese mikuni carburetor with a Chinese mikuni carburetor and I think they're the same size what did that accomplish seems like you could have just rejected what you had bogging is generally a fuel mixture issue and is resolved by jetting. I've always been taught lean pop Rich Bog think when the carburetor slide opens and then there's a hole there for the air to suck air into more readily if there's too much fuel it bogs for a second because it's hesitating while it goes the extra air it needs for that rich fuel mixture to burn
im pretty sure that those are the same grade carbs just adjust the air mixture screw if you have a one or change to a bigger jet in the carb if possible.
As someone who has built around 10 different motorized bicycles engine kits never reuse the slide from a different carb it might look the exact same but it might be just a hair smaller which will cause it to be to lean and you will blow the engine up
Cool those are like a 100 bucks... How is it working out lots of cool power? I just got my Communist China bike today. It's the only thing my white privilege job can afford.
We did the exact same thing, never ran worse than with the two NIbbi 26 and 24...( Would even barely turn back on) Rushed to put back the "crappy" carb and trying again to tune it better..More expensive is not always the best solution...
Bro where did you get that type of air filter its exactly what I need , need to run my gas shut of vale air pipe into the filter to get the same effect as my air box
My faith in a CP's advice goes from 8 or 9 to -9 upon seeing the affiliate link associated with the sales pitch, it begins to take on the shape of an infomercial, then there's the midroll ads filtered in to complete the package.
I’d change the air filter with the stock one it’s feeding dirty air into the motor that’s a crank case vent line hooked up to it. And the line you removed from the carb is also a vent line I’d put it back on and just roughy it down with the bowl drain.
What do you do with the old air filter? Do you detach the old air filter and leave the cable hanging, or do you put that cable into where the red transparent cable was (the one he disconnected in the video)
Good video thanks! I got my son a tou tou 125cc atv. Pretty sweet looking atv. I grew up riding yamaha yz250s and cr250fs. I swapped his carb out with not the one you recommended and its doggy. Like boggy. I adjusted the air fuel to dial it in. Just still something is going on. Like a clogged jet maybe.I know the engine has more to it. Thanks for posting. I kinda now want to scoop up one of these dirtbikes to put it through its paces and see if its any good. Back 10 years ago these things would crumble away. Parts fell off fast and they became un usable. Now it seems they have a good product for the $
Sure there fun to play around on but you could by a high quality most recommended a Honda for example they make indestructible 4 strokes and personally I swamped mine in 3 ft mud and cleaned the spark plug off and drained the carb and let the air filter dry and it fired right up
I swapped out the original carb on my 110 cc Tao Tao DB14 with one from Amazon that looked like it. The original did not have an idle adjust screw just an idle air that didn't work right. The new carb did have idle adjust and idle air adjust and that was the only difference. Bolted right up and fired up and worked perfectly out of the box with no adjustmets. So much better than that original cab and it was only $15. Like this guy I used the old air filter because it had the crankcase breather tube and fittings. Kako PZ19 carb.
That line coming out of the side is probably the crankcase vacuum. The line that is connected to the top of your air filter is probably where that line goes on the new carb. You probably have a vacuum leak out of that side port.
5:12 WHAT A MISTAKE! Keep that cap and use it everytime you powerwash your bike. You take the air filter off (clean it nicely, seperately) and stick that cap on the carb so you can wash the bike safely.

Hate when that happens I got this new 22 mm carb for my 110 cc and couldn't figure out the issue lol. I was twisting the F/A mixture the wrong way. Runs perfect now
If bogging top end then it’s too lean. Adjust the needle first. Doesn’t work, then you’ll need to go up a jet until it works. If it never works, that 26mm might be too big or it’s junk.
So he changed the carb from a knockoff to another knockoff? They prob came from the same place. He didn't even tune the carb for the engine. And how wil a different return spring in the carb help with bogging?

The needle on the slide, does fuel regulation and should be kept with the carb, and simple adjustment could fix the bog with either carb, or possibly a jet change, it will likely have a big when cold, it's just the nature of the beast. And the fuel, so the carb needs to be adjusted to compensate!!

That line attached to the air filter looks like the crankcase breather hose. For emissions they make the fumes from the crankcase go back through the carb and burn up.
You should never give it throttle to start becuase it isn't a 2 stroke, meaning let it start without giving throttle so your not reving it with no oil flow but with a 2 stroke u kinda have to because the oil is in the gas, no hate but it might make your bike last longer!
So anyone following this for your pitbike... This is ok for the smaller cc engines. But does not suffice for a 250. If you have a 250 get your self a 30 mm carb. This one he links is way too small. Also if you want more power don't worry about a new carb. Just open up your fuel screw and delete the other emmisions crap like the egr valve. There's tutorials for that on here as well
Going from a 19mm to 26mm is a big jump..an what can happen is thr fuel can flood the spark ,making it bog...if you turn throttle normally its ok but cracking it fully open can make it bog..
Your fuel line to the new carb has a dip and rise right before the barb in the carb it makes it harder for the carb to get fuel I had the same issue on one of my bikes just cut some line so it slopes down to the carb
After months of battle to fix that bog on the Evoque 150, issue RESOLVED!!!! Was never the carb in the first place... But simply the crappy original TORCH spark plug D8TC!!!!

@@andrewrussell5307 just lead the line down to the bottom of the bike with nothing attached to it.
Adjust the fuel air mixture screw it will quit bogging it's running to lean
Biggest bud ever you’re right but those junk carbs don’t have a mixture screw. Just idle.
mike bayes you can adjust the air/fuel on these carbs

There may be a brass cover over the pilot screw, drill that out carefully as not to hit the screw, open that up 2 1/2 out and you’ll be in the ballpark

Do you know how to remove the governor on a kayo td 125?
@@mikep4811 there shouldn’t be one on that bike, maybe a throttle stop on the grip.
The line that you took off is supposed to lead the fuel somewhere else when you fall over or crash, instead of it getting on the hot motor and may catch fire. Most bikes do not have these but they should.
There’s a chance it could catch fire but it’s a very low chance the petrol will evaporate 9 times out of 10 as its not exposed to a naked flame
Thank you....i have wondered for years about that thing.
@@officialsl1m309 yeah, but if for some reason there's a nick/crack in the boot of the spark plug cable. It could have a small arc grounding out and u not know it. I know, I'm late to comment, but I was hoping someone had pointed this out in the comments
Keep that clear fuel line, run it securely so that if you lay the bike over the gas will run out the bottom of frame
I was a motorcycle mechanic for some years. Had a jr 50 before a pedal bike. Rebuilt 50cc 2 strokes to 450 4 strokes and never paid attention to that
I'd also buy after market exhausts the stock ones have teo catalytic converters which restricts power, u dont have to replace the stock carb you just need ajust the idle screw and re jet the carb also getting the head port and polished will give it more torque
Cast iron head will fix lol

@@robertotorres7600 Because, torque tools will make so you don't overtorque? Sounds like common sense to me.
Been watching for about 3 days now and I really enjoy your vids. getting the needle in the throttle slide adjusted to the best position along with jetting the carb for vest performance is a must. it takes alot of tries to get it perfect but its worth it.
Put a light film of grease on the o ring for your carburetor heat spacer to help it stay in place better. The black plastic spacer is made of plastic to help keep the carburetor from heating up.

the "L pipe" is called intake manifold i think
Tóth Botond technically it cant be a manifold as there is no merging of gasses into a main chamber. But it is the manifold of the bike.
If there is still bogging issues down low or up high after adjusting the air mixture screw you can try changing the jets, and then lastly try adjusting the throttle needle up or down.
The vid is more for showing off her new ear rings and facial blush color. Maybe a trans issue?
The tube from the crankcase reuses emissions from the engine ... Better gas mileage basically. And the "L pipe" is called a manifold. 😉

I say the same thing. These off brand bikes are way easier to work on than a Honda or Yamaha.
That hose on air cleaner acts as a pcv valve. Positive crank case ventilation. It clears out the crank case of the oil vapors, and it creates a vacuum that helps the rings on the piston stay against the cylinder wall

Yeah, he installed the same thing lol
As someone who has built around 10 different motorized bicycles engine kits never reuse the slide from a different carb it might look the exact same but it might be just a hair smaller which will cause it to be to lean and you will blow the engine up
