Diego Corrales Documentary - A Warrior Remembered

- A look back at the boxing career of Diego 'Chico' Corrales. Unfortunately, I had to cut out a few clips because of rights issues, namely his fight against Robert Garcia and the first Joel Casamayor fight.
- กีฬา
Corrales- Castillo I was the best fight I ever saw live in my entire life back and forth action and the finale was unreal. Corrales coming back in the 10th from getting dropped two times and then stopping Castillo in the same round! Are you kidding me? I still get an adrenaline rush watching that. Never seen anything like that before in a boxing match
You beat me to it. I remember seeing that fight and thinking how unreal it was. At first I thought that stoppage was premature but Castillo seemed happy enough with the fight just being over. During the replay during the ring interviews I realized BOTH of them were nearly out on their feet, Corrales just wanted it more and was able to dig deep and find what he needed to win
Amen. It was the best fighter I ever saw as well.
@@itsnotme3882 yeah bro I was a 21 year old young dude with cornrows recording the fight on my VHS on Showtime I remember world champions Winky Wright, James Toney & Jeff Lacy ringside getting hyped jumping around. That fight was a special type of lit. 🔥🔥🔥🔥
“You better fing get on the inside now” Diego immediately takes him out
I completely agree. I remember watching the fight with my 15 year old nephew. I told him t the time, "You will probably never see a better fight.". It was simply breathtaking
Chico was one of a kind. Thank you for this video, Rich.
My pleasure, Jeff.
So many fantasy fights you get from this Legend. RIP to one of the best left hooks of all time, Mr. Corrales
Diego Corrales is one of the most exciting fighters to ever put on the gloves. If you ever want to introduce someone to boxing just replay the Corrales vs. Castillo fight. It's up there with Hagler/Hearns and Ali/Frasier as one of the most exciting fights of all time!!!
Pryor vs Arguello is up there too with the rest of the fights.
@@dark8prince201Holyfield vs Bowe, Gatti vs Ward, and Barrera vs Morales as well.
Was a big fan of Chico, as a fellow Sacramentan. But when I read about him beating his pregnant wife, all respect was gone.
Had a huge heart in the ring, and none outside of it. It was so distressing to hear so many people pull the whole, "Hey, no one's perfect" defense, because it really illustrated just how we make allowances for athletes/celebrities.
Anyways, good work on the video.
Thank you, Chris.
It is so difficult to reconcile his actions outside the ring and his abusive behavior toward his wife. He came across as vulnerable and decent in his post-fight interviews. A tormented soul for sure.
@@jamescook4116it's not that difficult. He was a lion with a coward's heart. I could care less about his excuses, a man that beats a woman when they have that level of power and talent is scummy low life loser.
I've seen the knockdown comeback dozens of times, but I never appreciated that entire amazing fight or the amazing fighters before now. Truly one of the best!
ONE OF THE GREATEST WARRIORS IN HISTORY, R.I.P CHICO , ❤
Good stuff rich. Look forward to watching this tomorrow. You have a great voice for documentaries and got me into boxing a few years ago now. Love your sympathetic take on boxers careers.
Thank you, Richard, hope you enjoy.
Tough is the understatement of the century for chico...
Rip champ.
Another amazing video Rich. You're one of a kind.
Thank you, B Zanon
I was at the Acelino Freitas fight. One of the most memorable atmospheres to date that I’ve been a part of. The building was MOVING……
R.i.p chico 🥊
I was always a huge fan of Chico's, the man gave us several of the best fights of the decade, win or lose, including one of the greatest fights of all time in the Castillo fight.
Thank you so much for this video Rich, I think this will be one of your most popular videos to date. Good look with it mate.
Thank you, Get Smart, will see how it does.
RIP Diego Corrales. Like every other human, there was the good, the bad, and the ugly part of Diego Corrales. Another great documentary Rich, thank you!
My pleasure, Dividenddream
Most humans don't beat on weaker people because their egos were hurt by being outclassed by another man. He was just a loser with talent, nothing special.
@returnalnocturnal7729 No one cares what you think, though
@@returnalnocturnal7729 You do not have the slightest clue of what you are talking about.
I do not know where you came up with that lame reasoning/story but it is so far from what happened, I have to believe that you made it up.
@@John.Flower.Productionshe was a women beater
Chico was a fighter's fighter. Thanks for the tribute Rich!
My pleasure, Apex.
Great video coverage Rich 🥊🥊💯 RIP to A True Warrior. He'd some epic battles
Thank you, Samuel.
Best historic boxing chanel on here. Hands down Rich. I learn a ton about the sport i love. And i like the way you give these fighters the dignity and respect every single pro fighter and amateurs as well.
Facts
Thank you very much, Matthew
best fight i’ve ever see, can watch the 9/10th 1000 times and still get goosebumps.
Rich what a documentary Diego was one of the very best fighter and proved it over and over. I just wish he would not have done what he did to his wife at the time. To hear him in the ring you couldn't ask for a better guy but home life was different. Anyway you done a wonderful job on this one i will definitely go back and watch it again. Thank you my friend i really loved this one for sure.💯
Thanks, Ron. Yeah, a real head scratcher as he seemed as personable as can be in his interviews/profiles.
Man... about time someone made this video... THANK YOU!
Sure thing, Guy.
Very early in his career I knew him because I trained at the same gym at the same time.
Honestly, I didn't like him at all but I'd still talk to him when I'd see him to be cordial. He was very cocky and arrogant. It's wasn't like he was the baddest guy in the gym either, compared to a lot of us he was tiny and could just be picked up and given a helicopter ride like a little kid.
Maybe being like that is required to be a champ but Rodney Jones, Tony Lopez, Pete Ranzani and many more champs came from that same gym, they were very likable and humble.
Thanks for all the hard work you put into these great videos, this one of my favorite youtube channels.
Interesting to hear that, Dave. Thanks for the share.
@@RichtheFightHistorian
Quite a few really good boxers came out of the Oak Park section of South Sacramento.
Off the top of my head was Pete Ranzani, Loreto Garza . Tony Lopez, Mike Dallas Jr (I trained a lot with Sr who also boxed with moderate success), Willie Jorrin, Rodney Jones and others that had big fights.
The owner was Ernie Guevara , the father of Joe Guevara that had a phenomial start until he faced Carlos Zarate. Joe told me Zarate had tremendous punching power, nothing like he had ever experienced.
They way you described the area as rough was very true. There were gangs, pimps, dealers everywhere, especially near the gym (Capitol Boxing). The PAL (Police Athletic League) also fostered may good boxers, that facility was nearby.
Often the guys from the PAL gym would go to Capitol to train as well and participate in the Saturday gym wars.
Rodney Jones is someone that anyone could be instant friends with, a super nice guy. Same with Tony Lopez, almost all of the guys I met.
My trainer for a few years was Timothy Harris, he lasted 7-8 rounds with Julian Jackson in his prime.(vid on youtube) He had a few title shots vs Nino LaRocca(youtube also) and had won a CA State belt but never had great success. He shot his ex's attorney and is still in prison I believe. I was around right at that time and he was in great distress over money/ child support.
@@RichtheFightHistorian
I think a good idea for videos might be doing profiles on some gyms and the boxers from them. The has beens and the "has nots" something like that.
There's gyms with plenty of stories I'm sure; like Kronk, Capitol, Wild Card,Johnny Tocco's etc.
Would be interesting!
Keep up the great work, I really enjoy your videos.
@@Dave-nv5rv Thank you, Dave. I'll consider that.
@@Dave-nv5rv Interesting tidbits. Thank you for sharing. I was always a fan of Tony Lopez. I also thought Loreto Garza should have gotten a lot more notoriety than he did...Two excellent fighters.

Man I asked Joesph Vincent, and many other channels and I thank god someone finally dropped a video on Chico!
Another brilliantly put together video. Much respect
Thank you, Andy.
Wow a modern documentary with Chico!!!!!!
Superb tribute Rich. They don't make 'em like Diego Corrales too often!!!
Thank you, David.
A brilliant video Rich and great respect to a true warrior. Thanks for sharing!
Sure thing, oncall21
Another classic Rich! I did not have much respect for Corrales because of his domestic violence. Also, he was a master at spitting out his mouthpiece. I think Castillo beats him in their first fight if Corrales does not spit his mouthpiece out twice in the final round. As a boxer, he was a tough warrior. Keep them coming Rich!
Thank you, RE, will do.
Nice documentary! I used to train with Diego at Sac PAL. Miss him.. R.I.P. Chico! 🙏🙌
Best thematic music intros and outros. Great documentary touch. I've watched 3. Haggler, Norton, now this one. Keep going. So many great fighters. I enjoy the hourly format
Thanks, Percy. Will do more with longer segments.
Gone but never forgotten! Its said alot but Chico was must see TV. R.I.P Chico Corrales
Chico Corrales great warrior in the ring. Coward in the real world.
Great video. Thank you for it.
My pleasure, Ignacio
I loved watching Chico fight. He was a throwback fighter. A great fantasy fight for me would have been him versus Alexis Arguello. RIP to Diego and Alexis. Thanks for the memories.
Am from Sacramento ca, this a good documentary on Diego! Thank you rich!
My pleasure, Juan.
BEST CHANNEL ON TH-cam!!!! Thank You
Thank you very much, Tabernacle.
How good is this channel .Thanks Rich.
I always thought Diego had a lot of parallels with Lew Jenkins the Great lightweight champion of the forties!!??
100 %
Thanks, Paul. I'll have to read up more on Jenkins.
@@RichtheFightHistorianMate do yourself a favour. He was a wild wild man!!
The Castillo fight... Wow.

What a fighter. Tragic ending. 🥊🥊🥊
This is why my parents never let me buy a motorcycle. They may have saved my life.
A troubled talent. RIP Chico 🙏
the females in his life had more trouble than he did, inflicted by him.
A REAL ONE !!! He fought anyone and never backed down. RIP 🏆🏆🏆

Passed away to soon.
Great Fighter. A true warrior. RIP Diego and thanks again Rich!!!
I got chills watching this.
Don't have children if you can't afford to give them a better life than you had...With that being said Chico was one of my favorite fighters...He was a true warrior.
Chico was my guy!! I loved Chico like the world loved Arturo Gatti!!
Chico was so much better a fighter than Gatti. His great fights were against a much higher caliber of fighter than Gatti’s. Had the two ever fought it would have been a war, but a quick and decisive win for Corrales.
Corralles-Castillo #1 will go down as one of the BEST fights of the Century! RIP Champ.
One of the greatest fights I’ve ever seen. Slugfest from the beginning.
I guess Corrales learned the mouthpiece trick from Freitas. R.I.P great fighter!
Despite the trouble Diego was the absolute definition of a fighter tru power in his hands and nothing less then 1000% from him grit and pure determination rip u fuckin legend
He was one of my favorites too. CHICO YOU WAS A FIGHTER.
As a fighter he was a gem!
the best as always.
Within the ring Corrales was courage personified.
You never let us down Rich - sincere and grateful thanks as ever for the time and diligence you give to every offering.
Keep going and going Sir !
I appreciate that, Martin, thanks.
I love chico forever!
Blown away !Thank you Rich...made my weekend.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it Clownu8nt
Thanks very much again rich... I know you have no idea how these videos entertain me.. but I really do appreciate the work you put in to showcase many fighters, most unknown to general boxing fans of today, myself included. And this video shows the heart real fighters possess. I look at these fights and take a good look within, because it takes a lot to go round after round, I often wonder if I can do it myself. I feel for these guys like my own flesh and blood, most of whom had very hard lives like myself. Thanks again. Splendid job as always.🫡🫡
Thank you very much, Marlon.
It’s crazy how Diego could give great interviews right after getting knocked out
Great viewing 👌
This was a Bad man! One of the best left hooks in the game!
His wife would testify to that
@@vinniedixon1140 I can't speak on his personal life . Didn't know him.
Such a troubled soul.... but a truly gutsy warlord. Rip chico
The greatest fight since Bobby Chacon vs. Bazooka Limon.
Rest in Love Chico. He was a heck of a warrior
YES!!! R.I.P Chico my favorite fighter of all time win or lose.
He was wildly popular just about everywhere else except his hometown of Sacramento. It’s a great fight town with a pretty storied history but they never embraced Diego. He never boxed there once he became a world class fighter. I think it was because when he beat up his wife that made the front page of the Sacramento Bee . However when he won a fight it was buried in the sports section..He was well known there but not necessarily in a good way..
What a warrior rest in peace Chico.🥊
Just a clean classy fighter I mean class in and out of the ring.may the lord have mercy on your soul may you rest in peace in eternal peace forever. And may the lord give your family the strength to endure this terrible tragedy. Paz y amor por vida
no quit in that man.
What's the name of the song in the beginning?
'Unstoppable' by Beacon Light
@@RichtheFightHistorian Thanks
THIS MAN WILL ALLLLLWAYS BE REMEMBERED FOR THAT FIGHT, ALLLLLWAYS. HE SHOWED HE HAD A LOT OF HEART IN THAT 10TH ROUND. BEATEN & BATTERED, HE STILL HAD ENOUGH IN THE TANK TO COME OUT VICTORIOUS.
Fearless fighter. Not a style that promoted any kind of longevity
He was very good and very was so many great fighters at his weight class and he had good size height good power he need to remember as a good fighter and get more respect
I got to give to him warrior 💯
Floyd Mayweather gave Chico his flowers. That was a great fight and Diego Corrales was definitely one of the top guys in his division back then. He had a good Long reach and KO power in both hands, that's what I like to see.
RIP Champ. Thanks Rich!
Sure thing, Mehdi.
Corrales vs castillo 1 was greatest stoppage in boxing history 👊
It seemed like a fast 10 count in the second Castillo fight.
Super fight!
A Classic
I loved the guy..
I grew up with Chico and boxed with him in Sacramento.
RIP Chico 🙏
RIP CHICO !! 🥊🙏💯
As a fighter Diego was incredible, aggressive, powerful with a huge heart and was pretty much always in exciting fights.
It seemed his approach to boxing and life meant he was destined to die young tho.
Great docu, thanks Rich!
Thank you, Andrew.
If you know anything about Tony Weeks, then you know he’s Always the ref that 🛑 fights for the fighters sake.
Rest easy Chico
" Diego { " Chico " } Corrales, (of) Sacramento~California.. One Bad Dude ! "
RIP Chico
Sure you have a few fight like that you’ll never be the same
He was amazing 🥲 he had the heart of a lion 🦁 he won’t be forgotten
A man that beats on a woman because his ego was hurt for being beaten by a better warrior doesn't have the heart of a lion. He has the heart of a weasel
@@returnalnocturnal7729 u are entitled to your opinion but let the man rest he paid the ultimate price in the end so why do we still judge people once they gone
15:18 I hate to see someone win a fight by means other than beating their opponent but Mayweather should have been disqualified.
I agree when they said they brought Diego ex and put her in the front how dirty is that. Mayweather was a great fighter but to me he must have been woried that he might get beat. Great documentary though
That was a calculated callus tactical maneuver before and after the dayz of Jay Edgar Hoover . 😂 🎉
Courtesy of lil fraud Floyd ... Sigmund Freud ?! 🤔
He was a warrior..
There's fights that fighter's leave a part of them in the ring Ali vs Frazier 3 Pryor vs Alexas their first fight he shouldve took almost a yr off to recover.
Such a classy fighter
