  • Mustafa Hamsho is a retired Assyrian/Syriac boxer who never won a world title, but fought some big names in his career. Though he was not a winner in all of those fights, he did some things to make every one of his fights interesting and controversial in some regard. The Syrian Slugger racked up a winning record in the late 1970s, defeated Wilford Scypion in 1979 and former world middleweight champion Alan Minter in 1981 to get a shot at then-champion Marvelous Marvin Hagler in October of that year, but showed no respect for the champion during their matchup - or at least for the time it lasted. Hagler methodically used left jabs and right crosses to bust up Hamsho's face (which needed 55 stitches) until the fight was stopped on cuts in the 11th.

Good to hear from hamsho as I'd heard nothing in many years from him. Hamsho was one hell of a tough guy. I remember watching his first fight against marvin....but his style was perfect for marvin and hamsho took a sustained beating in that fight until the stoppage. ...but to be honest I believe Hagler was the greatest middleweight of all time. Hamsho was the first boxer to beat Cruz....and I saw him beat Benitez and Minter....but the Minter fight could of gone either way. I'd of liked to have seen Hamsho v Tony Sibson. Now that would of been a good fight. I grew up watching boxing in the 80s .....what a special time that was. Hagler...Hearns....Leonard...Holmes
    Duran .....what fantastic memories.

That should of said Hamsho was the first boxer to beat Bobby Czyz but my spell checker changed it on me.

Very True Paul , 80's was king of Boxing , fighters fighting each other no scared like nowdays, and of course 15 Rounders, classic. Hamsho VS Sibson, From UK, i believe it would of been a good fight as long as it lasted, i would say Hamsho would of TKO'd Sibson in the later rounds, he cut very easily.Appreciate your comment, stay safe.Do Check out many more Boxing Fights and interviews in our World Liberty TV Boxing Channel @ www.worldlibertytv.org/category/videos/boxing/

Mustafa was one very tough fighter no doubt. Opponents had to "bring it" when they fought Mustafa. Both championship fights against Hagler, however, were TKOs, in the 11th and 3rd round respectively.

Man doing the interview so misinformed, he says he watched Hamshos fights with Hagler then how come he says Hamsho lost the first fight by decision when he actually got stopped in the 11th!! Needs to do his research before his interview.

He was a handsome, rugged tough guy with a lot of heart and determination. Totally out of his depth when he fought Marvin Hagler, but his professionalism, courage and tenacity on that evening, spoke volumes about his character.

Only a Briton would say Minter was robbed in that fight. Minter was among the least talented middleweight champs .lt is more accurate to state Minter gained a gift decision against Antuofermo for the title.

I admire this guy's courage but the fact was that Vito Antuofermo was more durable than Hamsho - - that's why Vito became a Middleweight champion - - don't forget Vito went 15 Rounds with Hagler and retained his Middleweight title - - Hamsho did no such thing !

He lost s close decision to Hagler in the first fight??? He was butchered and stopped in the 11th round. He didn’t win a single round on any of the judges scorecards that night. He was knocked out in the third round in the rematch. Not to take anything away from him because he always fought his heart out but I hate hearing things that are so inaccurate.

He says he saw both of the HaHamsho fights and say the first fight was decision loss, actually Hagler stopped Mustafa both times, I've posted both fights on FB to show it.I worked in the middle east it's sad to see these Muslims from India try be on with Arabs who always look at them as inferior . I remember one of them asking an Arab , when I worked in the middle east "Why did we lose Spain after after taking it "?" The Arab replied "what do you mean us? We Arabs won and lost Spain, you Hindi." Real slap in the face, this happened when I was working in the Middle East.
