Excellent presentation of Aaron's life and career. I interviewed Aaron Pryor in 2004. He was having some trouble with nerve damage in his neck at the time, but he was friendly, engaging, lucid, and seemingly at peace. He was studying to become a deacon at a local church at the time. He was a lot of fun to be around on that day. We watched some tapes of a few fights after the interview was completed. What really stood out in the interview was his memory. I was actually nervous about interviewing him because he had been diagnosed with pugilistic dementia several years earlier. He remembered everything, and his speech was clear. It was an honor to interview him. Very good natured, generous with his time, and deep down, despite the trials and tribulations of his life, he was a decent human being who meant well. RIP.

I love the fact that Pryor chose to fight Arguello in Miami with a 99.9% pro-Arguello crowd rabidly cheering for every punch Alexis landed and yelling obscenities at Aaron. It made the win even more satisfying, especially seeing those two black people in the crowd celebrating while the rest of the stadium was in stunned silence.
I saw that fight on replay, on TV. Arguello, always the gentleman, fought valiantly but he was no match for The Hawk (smaller eagles). I always rooted for him more because he was usually the younger AND smaller boxer (I'm only 5'5" and never boxed anyone as short as me... only inter-club fights).
I grew up in Cincinnati and idealized arron, but to see him years later bumming money asking how about a few bucks for the champ. He looked strung out , eyes running, nose running. We each gave him a 20 at the corner of 15th and Elm. It broke my heart to see him like that God bless the man.
I was always struck by the friendship he had with Arguello, even later in life as Arguello went through his own personal and political trials that preceded his death.

Epic doco Rich , at his peak this Lad could really fight to say the least.
Thanks, Paul.
Pryor would have gave any Jr Welterweight and Welterweight champions from the 90’s and now problems with his fight style! The man was just an excellent fighting machine. R.I.P. Champ
Thanks Rich.Absolutely enjoyed this one. I always stood in awe of pryors stamina, ferocity and boxing skills.I knew his early years as a youngster was tough.Sure does put the minor things in life into place.Appreciate your hard work and time.cheers mate.👍🥊🇭🇲🇭🇲
My pleasure, Darryl.
Aaron Pryor vs Sugar Ray Leonard - the great fight we never saw
As pros at 147, Leonard would have demolished Pryor.
Leonard was too big
@@Drjackdempsey9644 Leonard and Pryor signed to fight in 1982 at welterweight but Sugar Ray sustained an eye injury and the bout never materialized. Would have been a great fight.
He had such an awkward style, it was hard for classic boxers to deal with him, other fighters admitted the bottle had a few illegal substances in it,Lewis was banned from boxing, after doing prison time, nobody ever stayed up from Argulaos right hand intill that night,so it makes you think, but ,especially for the second fight,Alexis admitted he was doing to much coke also and not training right,he did his best work at 123,117,good lightweight, welterweight was to much for him,two tremendous fighters, both gone too early. RIP
A MASTER of angles! Training to box for years now, my trainer is always yelling MOVE after you punch! Pryor was constant motion and angles, very awkward at times but this led to his success. He would have KO'd Mancini at lightweight and I believe although eventually losing, he would have given Leonard fits. Which is why Ray never fought him. I have heard the reason Ray fought at light welterweight in the amateurs was to avoid Aaron. Another great one Rich! Keep em coming
Thank you, Brian. So true about Pryor's use of unorthodox angles and creating openings.
....I'm just a casual boxing fan Rich....but loving your 1hr documentaries...
Thank you, Vince. Certain stories need a longer running time.
Aaron Pryor a true legend. A good man.
My fav fighter exciting style and i learned so much from Pryor Rip Aaron Pryor greatest super lightweight
Just imagine Pryor versus Mayweather Jr. In their Primes! Pretty boy is going to have a hell of a time trying to tame this animal that is Aaron Pryor!
Pryor was the greatest finisher in boxing history. A true legend and all time great champion. RIP CHAMP HAWK.
Awesome doco! Thank you
Sure thing, Bololoukama
Great video Rich. Pryor fought like Henry Armstrong who punches were non-stop. His career could have been a little longer had he not take any drugs. Admired Pryor as the fighter in his time. Anyways, keep it up Rich.
Thanks, Scorpio
@@RichtheFightHistorian You're welcome Rich.
With a style like his, he shouldve been a huge draw but he wasnt that fortunate
Young Rich procures a fine pugilistic video.
He was a heck of a good guy too! The Hawk!
No fighter was more exciting to watch than Aaron Pryor. I could see Pryor beating Sugar Ray Leonard back in the early eighties. The first time i watched Pryor fight I was a fan. 🥊
Ashamed to say that I was not aware of Aaron Pyror before watching this great video. What a banger he was! Heart of a lion. Watching made me think of Nigel Benn. The Hawk against Hands of Stone would have been some war. Thanks so much for this.
My pleasure, David.
