I think Darkseid often toys with the people he fights. He knows he's superior, but probably uses the fights for his own amusement since he's already conquered many worlds. It's like self training to stay focused. But when he's had enough, he's had enough. Although, I expected more reality warping.
This isn't even Darkseid true form that was still his avatar. His true form is the omega force, he is a dimensional God who controls his own universe and dimension. He sends his avatar to conquer others. And yes, I think he does this to get amusement which is why he is so arrogant he likes twisting and manipulate others to fight for him.

As much as I liked Thanos, Darkseid is the top terrifying villain; Thanos wanted to erase half the universe's life either for love (in Comics) or by ethics (Movie); meanwhile, Darkseid knows he is the villain and wants the universe to BE enslaved by him. He doesn't want to end the life of other beings, he wants them all to suffer eternally as his soulless slaves.
That's how evil and selfish someone can be.
Even Thanos is smart enough to know Darkseid is unbeatable, he would rather try to gain his trust instead I think

I love this. In terms of raw strength and speed darkseid just bodies thanos on all levels. So him dodging with arms behind his back is great. Of course thanos's big mitton is what makes or breaks the game here weather or not it affects gods in other realities.

"in his universe" and that's where Thanos falls down, darkseid not only exists in the multiverse but has avatars of himself in multiple so you can't really be certain you've killed the real one. With the infinity stones Thanos would win, however if both have their weapons (infinity stones and anti life equation) then darkseid automatically wins. The whole point of the equation is to rule all sentient life by a simple actuation of one's will. In other words Thanos wouldn't even be able to think about the action of clicking his fingers, he'd become a mindless servant to darkseid.

Ok....so it sounds like they made a few characters for the overly lazy nerds. “Oh no, here comes Darkseid. What shall we do? Not even Spider-Man’s webbing or strength of DareDevil can defeat him.” - “No worries, StThomasAquainusMan is here. He’s the all being, master of time, space and dimension. So nothing exists without his consent and nothing is superior to his will.” - “That’s a relief. Now what?” - “I don’t know. Never thought about that.”
I assume that if he could do that he would not have allowed Superman Nor doomsday to defeat him. Yes I know you're going to say those were his avatars. Well my reply is according to the last 50 years of darkseid appearances, his avatars are who Darkseid is, because that's who we get and who we've always gotten. This whole true form dark side thing is straight out of Grant Morrison's wonky mind. But yes, the darkseid that we've always gotten should take out Thanos 7 out of 10 times, depending on Thanos prep. Remember Thanos is possibly the most resourceful and ambitious Warlord in marvel and single-handedly attained the multiverses most infinitely powerful artifacts through sheer will. Darkseid is a new God. Thanos is an eternal, with the devian gene....yet Thanos has only increased all of his eternal and deviant powers and attributes over thousands of years through biological mutation, technology and magic. Mistress death also imbued him with immortality inconceivable cosmic power.
I wouldn't dismiss Thanos so quickly. You even said that your true version of dark side can't leave his home or dimension or Jim Morrison's mind without destroying the multiverse so Thanos would be battling the darkseid that we all know as this other all encompassing one is just hyperbole finally making an appearance falling through the multiverse in final crisis.
When discuss Thor, is it rune King Thor or standard thor. When we talk about Superman, do we talk about Superman prime 1 million or cosmic armor Superman or just Clark Kent Superman. Sure these others exist just like your true form darkside, but when we discuss these characters, unless otherwise specified, we're discussing there standard characters. So enough talking about this true form of a character that we've spent 50 years reading, because one writer decided to have a brain fart and tell us that we've been reading avatars of dark side for the last 50 years, even though he didn't even create him. Actually, Thanos IS a god. Just in his own way. MCU Thanos is painfully nerfed. His comic counterpart actually has cosmic level feats. He only wanted the Gauntlet because more power. He's not satisfied with the power he has. However, it doesn't change the fact that Darkseid still stomps.
