  • In this video I show you how to change the fuel filter on a 2000-2009 Volvo S60. This is a super easy job that takes more time to prepare for than it does to actually do the job. You'll need jack and jack stand (always use 2 devices to support a raised car), 10mm wrench or socket, safety glasses to prevent getting gas in your eyes, and a small pan to catch the gas that will drip out of the filter and gas line.

    Love your Volvo videos, I have the same car and year. Great how you don't leave out the smallest details

      Thank you! This car is now my daughters car, so these videos could also be helpful in letting her keep it going for another 100,000 miles or more. I really, really miss driving this car too. I loved this car and it was hard to turn over those keys.

    Personally I soak the connectors with anti seize, release pressure using Schraeder valve on right side and remove connectors with the filter still bolted on, gives you a free hand. Where a car is used in salty climates, the filter front face corrodes and gums up the connector making it hard to remove and not want to grab the new filter connector. Clean it out with a small brush and wash out with anti seize or WD40. Give it a good tug on the new filter to ensure it’s gripping. Have had two which would not re-attach. These jobs always look so easy on rust free cars from climates which don’t cause a lot of rust. Where I live, I currently have a snow storm outside in April, rust makes every job a headache.

      I totally forgot to relieve the pressure on mine, as you can tell. Totally with ya on the salt. I'm in Michigan. You would think we have salt mines here as much as we use. My Volvos have managed it pretty well, but the Toyota I got for my daughter, holy wow is it hard to get some things to come lose on that thing because of all the corrosion! I only have a couple of minor things left to get right on that car then if anything breaks after that, and it's not a newer part that I can get off easily, I'm just selling it!

    My car got worse after fuel filter replacement? Any idea why? Defective new filter maybe or do I need to bleed the air after replacement?

    • @FloydNashFixItDad
      @FloydNashFixItDad  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question. I don't know if it's possible to insert these the wrong way around, but you may want to check that. Verify the connections are good and you aren't leaking any fuel as well. As far as I know, there is no need to bleed any air out. That should pretty much take care of itself within just a couple of minutes. If nothing else, remove it and make sure you verify the flow direction and maybe can blow thru it to make sure it's not a clogged or defective filter.

    It would be safer and easier if you let the pressure off the system first. That's why there is a valve cover and valve underneath

    • @FloydNashFixItDad
      @FloydNashFixItDad  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Didn't even think about it at the time. I could have released pressure at the shrader valve on the fuel rail too. Learn from my mistakes kiddies!

      @SithRattus 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FloydNashFixItDad we all make mistakes. Its how we learn from them that defines us and what we do. Awesome video, man. Definitely easy and very informative. Gotta do a fuel filter myself as well as front driver side cv axle.

    Hey Floyd, Have you ever change the fuel filter on any 2013 Volvo S60 2.5L T5? If so, can you please share your experience on that? I have spent 4 hours and I haven't been able to locate it!

    • @FloydNashFixItDad
      @FloydNashFixItDad  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Follow the lines where they come out of the fuel tank. IF it's equipped with a filter, it should be somewhere on that line no more than maybe 4 feet or so from the fuel tank near the back of the car. Not all these Volvos actually did have fuel filters though. Yours may not have one.

      If you have a steel tank, then your fuel filter is built in to the tank..and it is not serviceable

    • @FloydNashFixItDad
      @FloydNashFixItDad  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I'll still be the next guy. This car is going to become my daughter's first car and she'll either run it until it dies, crashes it, or if she wants to get rid of it, she knows I want first chance at it. This car is in incredibly good shape and I want to see just how long it will keep going.

    • @FloydNashFixItDad
      @FloydNashFixItDad  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If it has a filter, it would typically be in the rear, just in front of the lower control arm. The left hand drive cars have them on the right. I don't know if the position changes for right hand drive or not.

    How about the tab? Didn't see you bend it back.

    • @FloydNashFixItDad
      @FloydNashFixItDad  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, I didn't bend it back. I had to bend it out of the way to use the factory bracket with the new fuel filter. It's not needed for the new fuel filter.

    • @FloydNashFixItDad

      Great idea. I do something similar with my air filters. I put a square of paper kind of like the oil change places do right on the breather box with the date I changed it. This particular car will go to my daughter and she'll drive it until she destroys it or turns it back over to me. I don't think I'll ever get rid of it.

    If your car was from the north do not attempt this you will regret it! The connections will not come off as east as this and you will be screwed!

      @FloydNashFixItDad  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm from Michigan where we salt our roads. It's usually not that bad. Depends on the history of the car and how well it was taken care of really.
