    The corect priming procedure is done by pressing the start button in position 2 without holding the brake and just leave it like that fir 1-2 minutes.
    The car primes itself.
    Than start the engine and leave it running for 3-5 minutes.
    It works better than pressing the start button thre times in a row.
    It’s the volvo procedure that was being shared by a volvo dealer mechanic.
    Same procedure is used after fuel injectors disasamble.
    Another way is filling the bottom cup with clean diesel before screwing it back.
    Thow it can be a little bit hard without spilling it off.
    In other volvo models,it works well cause you have more acces to the fuel filter. Eg xc90

    I use a 32 mm ring spanner and an 18 mm ring spanner for the drain plug, As you have shown the socket can be a bit tight, then don't try to start it straight away, just press the start button with out your foot on the brake so that the pump can fill the filter, do it three times, then start the car, that way it is better for the main diesel pump. :-)

    Many thanks, I was having trouble locating the fuel filter, since the position seems to vary for different Volvo models.

    You should prime the fuel system after filter change by holding the start key without the brake. 2-3 Times much better for the high pressure pump

    I bought a 32mm shallow socket which worked. Be very careful tightening the drain plug, it only has a plastic thread and is easy to strip.

  • @robertasviskupaitis9195
    @robertasviskupaitis9195 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    forgot to prime the new filter with fuel :) That is done by putting the car into ignition poisition without starting 3 times and only start it then. It hurts the pump to run without fuel ;/

    Oh,and another thing to take into consideration at any D5 engine after 2006.
    Make sure that your swirl rod on the swirl flaps actuator is still in its place and has not detached at one of the ends.
    It does not trigger any check engine light.

    • @toneranger
      @toneranger 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers, I noticed by chance changing the steering fluid. Rod has disconnected from the engine side, filthy with thick oil, a leak in there somewhere to, leaking onto the disconnected balljoint

    • @endurocrosser8834
      @endurocrosser8834 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@toneranger
      You have to put the rod back in its place and the oil leak is caused by swirl flaps rubber part that has gone bad.the only way to fix it is to change the entire part.that requires takeing down the plastic admission cover and replacing the the seal as well.

    • @toneranger
      @toneranger 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@endurocrosser8834 thank you, do you know if the injectors need to come out to be able to reach and replace the seal that's spurting the oil over the actuator rod ?

    • @endurocrosser8834
      @endurocrosser8834 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@toneranger
      Yes,the need to come out.
      And also change the injector’s copper rings.

    • @toneranger

      @@endurocrosser8834 that's not a cheap fix I imagine 💰😁

    Next time when you loose your 18mm plug a little bit loose 32mm 1/4 turn. That will give you some air in the filter and everything will drain the proper way, not all over your face

    People talk about changing the "fuel filter" but it seems like V60's have changed the location of the fuel filter, so some have it at the rear like your and some have it under the bonnet, nobody seems to mention this? I've just looked and I don't have a rear one and the service records only mention the replacing of a cannister version that goes at the front.
    Amazon brings up both versions and tells me they are both for my specific car, so it looks like they don't know either

    Hi, my Volvo XC 70 D5 after driving to the destination and switch off, it doesn't start again it just crank. Could it be the fuel filter or the pump? Thanks in advance...

    • @patburnsent
      @patburnsent 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      🔧As long as it's a metric spanner. Imperial spanners do not work on European cars. 🔧

    I agree. Stay away from the main stealer. Learn to do it yourself. The volvo snobs on the volvo forum believe even an independent mechanic isn't fit to look after a volvo. What a bunch of twats

    Perhaps better to just put an oil pan underneath the car. Might be easier than the cut open plastic bottle many TH-camr seem to prefer.

    It is worth to notice that a filter change procedure should be done when the tank level is below 75% otherwise Diesel will leak continuously out of the filter housing.
    Priming is done with ignition on for 1 to 2 minutes.
