    When placing back the pump, remember to rotate the pump such way the float all travel doesn't hit inside the tank wall. Be careful if you tap with a hammer to remove the lock rings. Hamer on chisel can cause sparks, be sure to have the car really well ventilated
    Fuel pressure for non turbo is around 55 psi, for turbo 55-60 psi. The genuine pump is Bosch. The pump motor itself may be the same for both tanks and can be removed
    A high fuel pressure is usually indicator of corroded PEM
    Don't keep driving with low gas fuel. The pump sits inside a cup always filled with gasoline, however in warm summer days the gasoline inside this cup will heat up from the pump and if the tank is near empty, the cup cannot disperse the heat and will keep the pump hot which is wearing the pump prematurely. That's how my pump went bad
    A worn pump may cause sudden stalling while driving. On 2001-2004 cars, there is a pump relay on the CEM and this relay may suddenly disengage if the pump gets really hot, which will cut the engine - the car may restart and drive without problems right away. You can actually touch this relay under the dash and feel when it gets really hot which is causing it to disengage.
    The metal gas tank has internal fuel filter to the pump, plus a mesh around the pump cup. It is highly improbable for this filter to clog up, even with high mileage. The plastic tank
    has external fuel filter near the rear left side of the car, near the tank. This filter is very difficult to remove - always release the pressure at the rail - because the green clips get really stuck with dirt/dust and cannot be depressed properly. Spray them weeks in advance with penetrating fluid and work them little by little by pressing many times and by also rotate slightly the lines near the filter
    About the kinked hose under the pump on the plastic tanks, it is possible that once kinked, it will keep doing so every time you lower the pump inside the tank - perhaps try starting the engine before putting the seats back. I don't know how you can prevent the kink once it happens, but try not to put metal collars because the metal will rub inside the tank and who knows, you may get a free fireworks - so to speak. Possibly a plastic collar would help

    Thank you for this magnificent video explaining in full detail, how to remove and replace the fuel pump on BOTH types of tanks, metal and plastic. I watched another video that showed only the plastic tank procedure and did not even mention the fact that there are two types of tanks that you may encounter and you need to know which one you have before beginning the repair or ordering parts. I wish I found this video before I started, it would have saved me a lot of time and frustration.

    Thats why they charge 3 hours labor at $120/hour to replace this pump. Looks like a pain in the ass. i did a pump on a chevy impala and it was not difficult like this one. Damn Volvo!!!
    my son's volvo was running fine and all of a sudden shut off. It would start for a second and turn die. Had it towed to a 5 star yelp shop, and they said it was the fuel pump. The pump is like $422 at this shop. They are installing the original volvo pump, and they are making some good money on it, but i couldn't travel to my son to repair it, which i would have saved alot on the pump, but i also don't have the time to close my shop and travel 4 hours to repair his car. The repair is costing him in total $825 with tax and labor. (just FYI for anyone wanting to know). some shops are charging $1200 -up the dealership probably more than that. Screw the dealership.

    • @Peppermint1
      @Peppermint1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do not work with the connector submerged in gasoline. Be sure to disconnect the car battery then use a transfer back valve hand pump to drain the reservoir into one of those 10 gallons plastic fuel tank. Outside the garage. May also want to read about PEM, that can also cause fuel problems

    Your videos are really good. I had a set of tires put on my 2004 s60, went to start it and all it did was turn over. Would not even try to start. Any easy troubleshooting I can do in the parking lot. I already swapped relays and fuses.

    • @Peppermint1
      @Peppermint1  ปีที่แล้ว

      Does it turn over normally or slower or faster ? If normal, verify for fuel if the gauge is at low, these gauges are not accurate. If it's cranking very fast, the timing belt may have snapped

    Hi. I didn't know how to contact you officially, I need your help once again. I had a P2177 "System too lean off idle bank 1" with symptoms like stalling and reduction in power and hard start. Changed fuel pump, fuel filter, spark plugs, air filter. All symptoms went away except for the hard start only this time, it starts on first or second attempt rather than third or forth attempts previously. What do you think? Could injectors be the next thing? I noticed on the gauge hooked to fuel rail that when car is turned off, needle drops down to zero in about 2 minutes, is that normal for fuel pressure to drop that fast?

    Hey I have a problem with my Volvo s60 2.4 from 2001. Only with warm engine the idle on my car is not static, it goes up and down from 800 to 1000 and sometimes stays close to 800 but I can hear the rpm go slower and faster. I have checked pcv, changed MAF and MAP(runs better when I changed MAF and MAP, wont stall as often when coming to a stoplight or stop), replaced worn hoses and check valves and my ETM was changed in 2016 and has about 30 000 kms in on it, so I dont think its a failing ETM. Also when I do a warm start sometimes the car wont stay running it starts fine but the rpm just instanty lowers to 300-400 sometimes it has power to go to normal idle other times it just stalls. Pressing the brake pedal multiple times when engine off and then holding brake and starting the car wont start 90% the time it just stalls. Any help would be appreciated. THANKS

    Hi, are you sure i can acces to the fuelpump thru the backseats in 2009 model S60? I've heard that you need to take the whole tank off just to replace that pump.

    • @Peppermint1
      @Peppermint1  ปีที่แล้ว

      It should work on the P2 S60 made from 2001-2009. The P2 platform ended in 2009 so maybe you have the later P3 platform model ?

    As usual, excellent videos for us Volvo owners. I have an intermittent high pressure read on my OBD causing misfiring and shuddering. Most of the time, it runs pretty well, though consistently reads rich a bit on both ST and LT Fuel Trim. Every once in a while, the OBD fuel pressure reading jumps to 111 and then the car runs awful. Any thoughts on the intermittent issue while running a bit rich? I maintain the car completely, so any repair is fine by me. I think keeping my Volvo running my be an OCD issue for me! Keeps me young.

    • @Peppermint1
      @Peppermint1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      High fuel pressure is usually caused by corrosion inside the PEM (2003-2009 only).
      I have a video showing locations, clean used one $40 on EBay no programming needed

    • @jeffreykarg5108
      @jeffreykarg5108 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Peppermint1 Thank you. The PEM is in the trunk and looks clean all around. That doesn't mean there is no corrosion inside. I have unplugged and plugged the connectors a few times on the MAFS, FPS and the PEM. I cannot tell if that makes a difference. I have some random non-fuse related issues of some switches that do not work including the trunk open button and rear window locks not operating from the front control panel (only work manually) and the fuel door button doesn't work. But the car is so comfortable I cannot leave it!

    • @Peppermint1
      @Peppermint1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

       @Jeffrey Karg If it's in the trunk it should be fine assuming it's the original one. Can't suggest more, may try the forums (matthews) but high pressure fuel other than faulty PEM or FPS it's not going to get many suggestions

      I did this at the junkyard only to make the tutorial - I did not use that pump. But you are perfectly right, everything must be SPOT CLEAN before starting to remove the access hole cover. On my car I did use a vacuum and a brush to remove any kind of dust or dirt.

      @Peppermint1 great videos please advise, 2008 V70 3.2 FWD, after removing the rear seat base it appears there are 2 rubber covers, 1 on each side with electric, but no access to the fuel pump, is it located further back or is this the kind where the tank has to be lowered?
