  • Beginner's guide to replacing fuel filter. Volvo recommends you replace your fuel filter 120,000 miles. Others have recommended you should replace them every 30,000 miles. What do you think? Please place a comment below. I recommend you replace the fuel while doing a oil change.

    Is it better to do a fuel filter change every 30,000 miles or wait till the scheduled 120,000 miles?

    Thanks for a good guide. For me the problem was opening those tabs. They were stuck, couldn't move them at all with my fingers. I shot alot of wd40 there and tried again, only small movement. Finally I was able to squeeze them with pliers and got it open. I put tape around it afterwards just like you did to prevent this from happening again. Probably too much dirt had gotten there. Also my fuel filter seemed like it was original, it was so rusty. My volvo is 2006 with 220 000km / 137 000miles.

      Ture things tend to get stuck and you loose a lot of leverage close to the ground in a tight space

      Mine is similar to yours and a mechanic recently charged me $400+ to tell me i need this done... along with saying i need a timing kit and problem with crank seal/pulleys.
      And that was when i took it in for a burning smell in the cabin/white smoke/oil coming out the exhaust pipe. The oil level was way too low and once i put a liter of synthetic in the smoke and smell stopped. I got ripped off. And that was after i went to Volvo and ended up leaving when i was told just pay $12000. for a new engine! Fuck that! Not worth it.

      @@DiyProJames , Oh it runs good, and has been kept in very good shape for a USED CAR.. (No tears or cracks inside, no rust outside..) I'd say the Volvo dealer was trying/hoping to RIP me off. Especially for suggesting i should pay 3X the car's worth for the fix that was done by just adding some oil.

    US vehicles should have fuel filters serviced every 24 months; oil & filter every 6 months, air filter every 15,000 miles, batteries every 4 years. The hope is to NEVER get stuck on the road. Exceeding MRS guidelines means trouble-free operations.

      1 in 100 people do any of those things. Batteries should be replaced when they test bad, at $200+ for a quality battery, every 4 years is silly. Creating a maintenence schedule that is tailored to your useage is always the best method. Spending $100s or $1000s of dollars for work not needed is wasteful.

    Is your s60 FWD or AWD? Apparently the filter differs ? I just ordered the exact one you used on Amazon and want to make sure it’s the right one (for my father in law’s 2008 S60 2.5T FWD)

    My 2004 doesn't have it. I believe Volvo started to put outside filters in face-lift models starting 2005.

    You forgot to loosen the valve to release the fuel pressure before doing anything.

    First time car owner, my car shuts off immediately after turning on, could replacing the fuel filter help with that?

    • @DiyProJames
      @DiyProJames  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are so many different things that may cause an engine to stall. So I can't really give you an answer. You have to diagnose one by one and check what's causing the issue. You could have bad idle control valve, bad spark plugs, vacuum leak, malfunctioning maf sensor, dirty fuel injectors, failing fuel pump, etc... The list goes on.. Don't know what you have tried. By the looks of the question you probably have not looked into any of it... It maybe best to take it to a mechanic and get a diagnosis and repair.

      Sorry about that.. Check on the passenger side. About mid point of the passenger rear door. Follow the rear wheel well toward the mid point of the rear passenger door. It's on the outer perimeter and not the interior of the vehicle
