I believe this man deserves a noble peace price, after hours of frivolous words of discomfort. The most gentle pull forward and there it was. The battle was fierce and my town did not loose an auto parts shop di to arson . We'll done sir , we'll done.
The will Alfred Nobel made in 1895 was inspired by belief in the community of man. The Peace Prize was to be awarded to the person who had done most for "fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses".😉
This is by far one of the most helpful videos that I've come across! Thank you for posting this! Finally got my fuel line disconnected thanks to your helpful how to video!!!
Great video! Excellent explanation. I used to fight these "quick disconnect" fittings until I learned this detail you showed, to drive them toward each other to "unload" the little barbs a little to gap them away from the lip (shoulder) of the male side, then insert the tool to "flatten" out the barbs, making clearnace so the lip on the male side can then clear the barbs and separate the two as you pull them apart. This video will help a lot of people.
Thank you for not only showing the lions to the water, but also explaining the entire watering hole. All in all, wisdom gained v.s. simply a solution to a single instance. Thank you
Wow, I just explained this exact procedure in the comments to another video showing how to disconnect these fittings. But this guy is exactly correct. Sir, I hope many others find this video and save much frustration. Thank you.
Good tip! Another one is once you have the tool on the line you can wrap the part that slides in the fitting with a few layers of electric tape making its diameter slightly larger. That little extra will help push the tabs further in. I struggled with one for hours pushing as hard as i could and once I wrapped it with tape it popped right off.
Nick, many thanks for this tip. I was fighting with a fuel tank connector and it was winning. Searched YT, say your video, followed your lead, and when the first connector came out, I literally said to my self "What happened?" Success, is what happened! Second connector, same as the first. Got the fuel pump module loose, then it hit me, the smell, it was rancid. Rust in the sock, rust in the tank, and this rust colored blob on the bottom of the fuel tank. I'm getting a new tank, should be a sight easier going back since it will be empty. Thanks again.
Mine was super tuff. Had to cut a block of wood with hole & slot drilled in it. Slipped it over fuel line from tank & strategically placed a quick-grip clamp to pull the two lines together a bit more. Got it. MUCH THANX.
Spot on. My Duramax has a 1/2" and 3/8" on the tube to tell me the size of tool needed. I saw the connection and knew there must be a special way to remove the coupling. Thank you.
Had to come back and say thank you. Was trying to change my fuel filter for over an hour yesterday. Its never been changed so it was rusted bad. After stepping away and letting it sit overnight I found your video. Watched your video and it took 20 minutes and some PB blaster and the new fuel filter is in. Huge thank you for making this video. Your video should come with the tool lol
Thank you Jonathan! Those things can def get rusted bad. Some even fuse together and you need to chop them off. Nightmare. Good luck on your next project 👍
Clear and concise explanation of what should be a very simple procedure, thank you! It’s all about the details when you’re explaining how to do something and you nailed it. I just replaced the Flex-Fuel sensor on my 2000 Chevy S10 only I didn’t have one of those nice release tools (gonna get one though). I used two small screwdrivers and I managed to get both hoses off without ruining the locking rings but it would’ve been a helluvalot easier with the tool. Great video, thank you sir!
Thank you. I bought this tool long ago and I don’t know where it is, but I will find it. I found the tool. Your method worked on my second try. A zero out of 10 my foul language scale.
I know this is 2 years old BUT,,,,,, my 1995 f150 rear tank fuel pump large line would not come off. I actually tried for one week to get it off but it would not... watched this video and realized it was stuck and would not move, I got rough with a pair of channel locks and got the female to move, forced in the metal tool and pulled it free. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU
It's about freeking time I found the right info, I was on the real struggle bus, thank you. update, everything went well, got the new part in, thank you so much
I struggled taking this crap off. I was using two pick tools to separate the line. Managed to do it that way successfully; wish i would’ve caught this video sooner.
I wish I would of come across this video earlier.. The front line came off with a little struggle.. The back one going to tank was a pain 🤬 3 hours later I’m made several Roger Stabach Hail Mary prayer’s 🙏 .. After ripping 3 pairs of disposable gloves , and getting all kinds of dust in my eyes the line finely released.. Thank you Jesus!😂😂 But I like to educate myself. Watching your video explained my struggle and you should me the solution. Thank you 🙏
I wish I'd watched this before dropping the fuel tank from my 1998 Chevy pickup. I just wanted to see why the gauge was stuck on full. I couldn't lfree the lines with the exact tool you used. I ran out of time and patience, so I reinstalled the tank in disgust! Thanks for this important video. 👍
Great advice! When I was originally disassembling my car for the first time it seriously took me hours to get them disconnected. I feel like I remember doing this same trick but it seems like either there wasn’t enough slack in the female like or I couldn’t get to it because it was very difficult to reach.
Just in case anyone else comes across this, if the system is pressurized its hard to slide it forward. Many ways to de-pressurize the rail, but an easy one that works on most GM trucks is to take the cap of the pressure test port on the other side of the fuel rail and depress the schrader valve (like a tire valve stem) to relieve the pressure.
HAVE ALWAYS SUFFERED BECAUSE I WAS EXACLTY DOING WHAT YOU SHOWED NO TO DO,,THAN I DID WHAT YOU SAID,,AND BOOM THEY COME OUT LIKE BUTTER,,THNX FOR VIDEO AND SHARING THIS WITH ALL,,,
thanks for doing this even if it is 3yrs old,I`ve spent 2 days trying to get mine off,,till I put a camera to see clearly and,,I`m missing 2 of the barbs,I did the push in before inserting the tool and still nothing, but I`m glad to see i`m not the only one struggling.
Super useful! 20 other videos to find THIS here. Ours has a built in fuel disconnect that had to be pushed into it and other videos weren’t showing that!
After looking at that video I made my own tool I did a MacGyver and took a Sharpie Top the cap cut it in half and if you needed to put it over it wrap a couple wraps of electrical tape around it if needed to make it thicker and push it in like your putting on about 1/8 of inch then pull back while your pushing the Sharpe cap the same way worked great for me and no cost
Thanyou Sir......best video so far.....I have one on my 2020 Triumph Motorcycle.....had to take it off twice.....been a struggle.....now I see what going on. My manual says use special pliers.....they don't work very well....its a plastic fitting.....I am scared of breaking it. Ordered a set of plastic removers.....very inexpensive
After dealing with this for 6 hours plus. And broke tools in the process. I absolutely hope this works... beyond frustrated. I just hope I can reach both hands that far.
I'm pretty sure you know how much a life saver you are with this heavenly valuable information!!! Thank you, thank you and thank you so much for it!!! 🤩
Other than a friggin commercial interrupting these kinda videos while I'm sweating and getting eaten by mosquitoes....I'm working on the same thing. I hope I get it right this time. Thanks!
I have this problem with a nitrous adapter on my mustang figured I'd have to push in on it a little but I also have the cheap plastic fuel line tool that isn't good at. This video really helped.
Thank you so much. I have more experience in old trucks and working on a 1997 is not fun. After the 70s boom all kinds of problems. Fuel pump is now in the tanks SMH. Wish I could live in the old days forever
Awesome video brother!!..I was struggling with one fuel line for an hour and a half..watched this video on my break of frustration, and it did it!..thanks!
060922 Chevy 2002 Avalanche 1500 developed a fuel leak at Fuel Tank Unit. Discovered really rotten rusted fuel lines too. Really glad to have clicked on this video. first time DIY!!! Two big jobs. I have to say this to take a gas line from equinox took me hours almost the same time to remove the whole engine
I hate gas lines
Three years later and your video is still helping. Thank you kind sir!
As someone who struggled with one of these fittings, I thank you for this helpful tip and giving a detailed explanation of the fitting. It works!
Wow.... Fought with my gas line for an hour. Then found your video and it came off with ease. Thank you for sharing this.
This info is worth it's weight on gold. Thanks
I am prertty sure frustration brought us all here haha.
Thanks for the info
Well the female barbs up against the lips are a common occurrence, I guess...😂🎉😮😢
This is by far one of the most helpful videos that I've come across! Thank you for posting this! Finally got my fuel line disconnected thanks to your helpful how to video!!!
After about half an hour of struggling, this helped my fuel line come out super easy. Thank you!

Great video. Thank you for that short explanation. Allowed me to get my fuel pump disconnected in 4 minutes.
This guy rocks! That diagram you drew in the beginning is incredible!
This man is a gift from God.
Good tip! Another one is once you have the tool on the line you can wrap the part that slides in the fitting with a few layers of electric tape making its diameter slightly larger. That little extra will help push the tabs further in. I struggled with one for hours pushing as hard as i could and once I wrapped it with tape it popped right off.
I think that's exactly what's happening to me right now
Same here hopefully this will help

I couldn’t budge the connection. Watch your video and bam! Done. Thank You.
Frickin genius! I was struggling for a good while and no one ever mentioned what you did. Thank you !! Great info.

I finally understand why sometimes it works, and sometimes I'm cursing the heck out of it! I won't forget this trick for sure!

I’ve been spinning wrenches for a while now. I’ve always struggled with those and just assumed everyone else did too. Glad I watched that, thanks.
Great video. The tips on grabbing the back part of the fuel line and pulling from there helped a lot.
Great advice! When I was originally disassembling my car for the first time it seriously took me hours to get them disconnected. I feel like I remember doing this same trick but it seems like either there wasn’t enough slack in the female like or I couldn’t get to it because it was very difficult to reach.

Thanks dude! Wish I saw this when I was changing the stupid rusted fuel pump. Fuel lines on top of gas tank rust so bad from road salt
