Nespresso VertuoPlus Deluxe VS Vertuo Evoluo | Is Hot Coffee Too Much To Ask For?

- 1-year update: I am still loving my VertuoPlus Deluxe machine overall. Unfortunately, I did have to send the machine in for repair (the machine was leaking coffee when brewing), but I had a really great experience with Nespresso customer service and haven't had any issues since.
The only minor thing I would change about this machine is to add a sensor that detects when the water tank needs to be refilled prior to brewing. This is a feature I became accustomed to while using Keurigs. Not a huge deal, but I've forgotten to look at the water tank a few times when it needed to be filled and the machine just tries to brew coffee anyway, which I think is odd.

Hey thanks for the video. I just wanted to add my experience for people who may be worried about the Evoluo. I seen your video after buying and was worried I made the wrong choice. I brewed a 230mL cup of coffee and held my digital thermometer directly beneath the spout as it poured. It got hotter as the coffee continue to brew and peaked at 167F. After it finished pouring I immediately stirred the coffee and measured the temp of the final brew. It was 152F, the cup was hot to the touch, and the coffee remained too hot to drink for a few minutes. It was probably 5 minutes before I could drink it without having to take small sips. The machine did go through the cleaning cycle before this experiment but the water that came out during the cleaning wasn't very hot so I don't know that it would have made a significant difference. I can do the same test tomorrow on a cold machine and report back my results. For now I'm definitely happy with it. I bought the Evoluo instead of the VertuoPlus because I preferred it's appearance. The lack of a motor should also make it more reliable in the long run, less parts to break. Running hot tap water through mugs before brewing will make them retain temperature much longer as well.
UPDATE: Tried it again this morning on a cold Evoluo machine. With no warm up after brewing 230mL and stirring the temperature was 158F. Too hot too drink immediately. Much much warmer than what you found with your machine. I won't even bother prewarming my mugs with this machine. Either they updated the thermal block since your video or you had a bad machine is my guess.

Thank you for this super helpful comparison. I did notice the machine on the left brewed a darker looking coffee than the other. I thought it would be hotter because of this distinction, but your thermometer reading cleared that up.

Nice review!!! Thanks for doing this. As you said, it's hard to find good comparisons, and I love that you actually measured the temperatures!!! We have the Evoluo, and we've been satisfied. As you say, you can drink the coffee immediately. We use heavier mugs, and I always pre-heat my mug by filling it with hot water from my sink before I use it. I do this no matter what what I brew coffee, and it helps a lot.

Thanks for the video! I too love hot coffee all year long and was disappointed when I tried the Breville model and had lukewarm coffee. Glad you found one that works for you and might have convinced me to give the VertuoPlus a try!

@@shetriedthat5658 Drinking a cup now...:) love all the coffee it makes..and white chocolate Mocha, my wife gets Fontanna white chocolate that comes in a big bottle just like star bucks use, and we use a double espresso when making them with a little hot milk and it's really like star bucks or better...yum

Thank you for detailed description. I like the smaller size on the black one because I have limited counter space and just like you I do not want to wait to have a cup of coffee. I have a Keurig Smart plus coffee pot and I’m looking for an espresso maker as well because sometimes I just want something really strong that I can’t get for my Keurig. I like my coffee to be hot because I used to French vanilla creamer as well liquid

I won't bore you with the details of the rest of the inconvenience, multiple calls to Nespresso, etc. Anyway, as a replacement I have opted to get the Vertuo Deluxe which I will pick up in two days so your video has convince me that I made the right choice.

I’m about to purchase one here for Black Friday, I think I’m definitely going to go with the Evolvuo because I’ll primarily be using it for iced drinks and if the temp is indeed lower, it’ll help with it not getting too watery from my ice melting. I HATE my Keurig for being too hot. Also, aesthetically it looks more premium and is going to look nicer on my new coffee cart I am building.The Plus looks like a lot like my Ninja drip machine and it looks “not as premium”, but they’re both gorgeous ❤️

Oh and another thing that will help a lot with temperature is if you run some hot water into your mug first to warm it up before you brew your coffee. You'd be surprised how much heat the cup can soak away from the coffee after w few minutes, but I see you tested right after it finished so probably not a factor.
The one on the right seemed to have more consistent flow in the beginning and better foam.
Great review! I was really happy you focused on the brew temperature. Too many reviews talk about arbitrary things like noise and size. In the end, most coffee drinkers care more about the coffee, which alludes more to temperature than aesthetics. I'd buy a hunk of steel if it made the best coffee rather than a sleek design with mediocre performance. For me, temperature is in my top three or two categories for a coffee maker. To be sure, until Nespresso makes a better design, I only use the VertuoPlus - mainly because of the temperature aspect of the machine (it's the hottest). I'm going to be asking for my third VertuoPlus for Christmas this year in Piano Black. To be sure, I'm getting a third - not because they break - but because I want one in my "Man Cave" - along with one in the upstairs kitchen (my wife stole one to bring to work). Haha...

@@shetriedthat5658 Wise choice. Their latest model, Vertuo Next, doesn't impress me; it's for those who want a small footprint and colder coffee, apparently. Also, the Vertuo Next has Bluetooth connectivity for "updates" - alluding to gimmicks like pour-over coffee and potential recipes (I've never cared about those) in the future. All I want is HOT, black, straight-up coffee. Cool looking machine, but the VertuoPlus is the Nespresso standard that has yet to be topped. The extra brew time via the VertuoPlus (that many reviewers complain about) is the difference, temperature-wise, I'm assuming. Nespresso is using the same technology with a longer run-time to make it hotter. What's five seconds? People are WAY too much in a hurry if they need those five seconds. Haha... \m/\m/ Merry Christmas!

Wow that temperature difference. Even after immediately testing the plus you’d think the thermometer would retain some of the heat.

Are you serious? I'm so mad. I litereally got the Vertuo Evoluo because it was stated that there were problems with heat in the earlier ones and that this model addressed tha issue and made hotter cups..
Lol. Yup. “Hotter” yes, “hot”, not in my opinion. The coffee from the original one is practically iced coffee, so it’s not tough to improve on that design. The evoluo was tolerable, but I’m just programmed to expect HOT coffee. Of course, it is all subjective.

Luis Mendoza hi Luis and thanks for commenting! I read a lot about the leaks for the Vertuo Plus (so I was scared) but I haven’t had any issues at all. I think the key is to ensure your machine is level with the water tank (you’ll see what I mean) and be gentle when you move the water tank. Let me know if you have any other questions! I love this machine so much I wish it had merch. Lol.

Luis Mendoza Happy to help! aesthetics are totally subjective, but I actually like the look of the delonghi better (the one with the flat top). I still love my machine, but now I see they released the vertuo next, which looks really slick. If I were buying now, I’d go for that one. FYI: nespresso is having a 30% off sale right now.
So this machine helps creates the billions of empty pods to pollute the landfills.
How do you change the cup size on the Evoluo?
