Wow Blur played really well in this set.
Man. I love this set. Generally, you never see such drastic turning points in games or sports, but this set changed the dynamic between these two players so much. Prior to this, it was certainly clear that Armada had a mental edge coupled with better gameplans and understanding of the matchups they would play. And during and after, you see that m2k has a strong and (more importantly) repeatable gamplan that he brought to the table. The win also certainly gave him the confidence going foward. I certainly think this set kicked off the best rivalry in melee for the next two years. Pick any set between these two during that time period, and you are likely to get an immensly tense game 5 classic that goes down to the wire. And we have this set to thank for it.
I hope this success gives M2k a ton more confidence going toward the summer, it would be great to see him perform like this again

M2K has been doing fairly well. Just not as good as the other top 6. For the longest time he's had a problem against Puff with only one win last year and one win this year. I think it's time to retire Fox and either grind out Marth/Sheik vs Puff.
his fox does fine honestly. he has 2 wins this year, and two additional sets that were really close.
It's better for him to improve his Fox gameplan in neutral imho

This set makes every M2K fan happy! A shame he couldn't repeat in Losers. I think M2K should seriously focus on Marth and Sheik 100%. Drop Fox, and stop using Peach vs. ICs. Stop doubting himself and play the game instead of the MU imo
the thing is hbox bodies his marth and shiek, so he needs fox to stand a chance. sucks he needs fox for just one player
noah Twigg Good point but he should reserve Fox specifically for Hbox and use his mains 99% of the other times. I also think his Marth can beat Hbox, he just doesn't believe he can because he doesn't like the MU.

Jason is and always will be my favorite player. So much heart and such incredible skill. Great match for both and looking forward to watching both Armada and Mew2King in the future.
M2k just has to stick with Marth against Peach and keep trying. That's why he won. He didn't just give up and go Sheik or Fox like before.
I think he was crushed after losing to Hbox and really wanted to take the tourney (even though he still could have). Though I think beating him with Marth this time was good because it removed a mind-block from Armada for the next time he uses Marth

i love how m2k hasn't been performing the greatest in most tournaments he enters lately yet in the last two months he 3-0'd the best melee player and 3-0'd the best smash wii u player
and by best i mean #1 ranked at the moment
I remember the day before this set I said in Bizzarro Flame's Twitch chat that I though M2K would win Summit. Someone asked me if I was serious, and I said that M2K was playing amazingly the day before, so yeah. He didn't win the tournament, but this was pretty dang good.

noah Twigg I disagree, go watch his set against Hbox, M2K got absolutely destroyed using Fox, Hbox has a *lot* of experience in the Puff/Fox matchup, I honestly think M2K has more of a chance with Sheik/Marth than Fox. Recently, I see M2K failing with Fox way more than actually succeeding.

Commentary suggestion: During game 1 there was way too much talk about the character matchup, I think that kind of analysis needs to happen before the match. Once the match starts, just talk about the game thats happening.
Armada was really way too patient with his turnip pulls this set. It's usually no issue that he will only pull turnips when his opponents are offstage in certain matchups but I feel like with the way m2k was spacing, Armada was failing to pressure Marth on stage, or even offstage. There are many circumstances where m2k is offstage recovering and he very easily side b-s in an intelligent way to avoid the typical two turnip toss armada throws out. Maybe he was scared of side b but, I feel like there were points he could have drop down nair'd and been okay. Definitely an amazing set, though I wish people would stop freaking out when m2k wins things like he isn't good anymore or something. Nobody acts this surprised when PP gets good wins in his current state which is arguably worse than Jason's.
armada looked pretty bad this set tbh. good for m2k since he definitely outplayed him hard but yikes, armada did not play well. good set to watch tho

Wow I remember when m2k first beat armada in 2013 the commentators were like "three long years of trying to beat armada" until now m2k was never able to beat armada since then.

Chill, obviously a joke. Blur clearly doesn't honestly think he's responsible for m2k's win. As for your second statement though, it is likely there are things that Blur knows that M2K doesn't. M2K doesn't know everything about the game

Blur thinks he actually changed the metagame somehow and the rest of the commentators proceed to taunt him mercilessly for it for the rest of the set. Also, I'm sure M2K doesn't know "everything" about the game, but he most certainly knows more and has more experience than blur. Which is why the other commentators were taunting blur for making such an arrogant statement.

Judging from M2K's popoff, it'd seem extremely challenging to fake this. This was an event where he could focus solely on Melee and attack the "inner demons" he had with more skilled friendly partners and focused matchups.
