Also Mango as Apollo Creed makes too much sense. He’s Mr. America, crowd favorite, doesn’t take the first encounter against an unknown seriously but still barely wins, then goes try hard for the rematch but loses. Just. Like. Apollo.
Both. Mango is from North America like Rocky. Armada is from Europe like Drago. Armada is the foreign underdog like Rocky. Mango is the crowd favorite from the hometown, like Drago.

Back in the days of the 5 gods, I remember people used to say we needed a player with Mango's reads and creativity, Armada's consistency and punish game, Hungrybox's spacing and mastery of his own character, Mew2king's edge game and ability to 0 to death off of one mistake and PP's pressure and mental game, and I think we have a player like that now.

Mango is far too inconsistent to be considered better than armada. Armada is definitely the GOAT. God only mango could lose and still have people saying he is better.

Mango is probably the only player that when he loses has the most people saying he wasn't playing his best, while if Mango does beat the other player it's "mango at his best can't be beaten". It's just as valid to say the other player didn't play their best.
Was he playing at his best at Genesis 3? If he was, then he just got beaten by Armada, so your statement is false, and if he weren't, then when is he playing his best? The next time he beats Armada and wins a tournament? Also keep in mind that while Armada is really consistent, that does not mean that if/when mango does beat him (or anyone else for that matter) that they HAVE to be at their peak, so it becomes "proof that mango peak > their peak". For example, Armada flubbed and SD'd in this grand final. Everyone likes to talk about how if mango didn't SD in the 2nd game of the 2nd set, he might've taken the tournament, but at the same token, if Armada didn't flub, he could've won without a bracket reset.
Yes, mango is a great player, but I seriously don't get this "at his best he can't be beaten" mentality. Not for him, not for leffen or any other of the gods. It just seems incredibly silly.
Y'all both have good points. Its true I'm fan boying, but I'm also just trying to make the point that consistency isn't the only way of proclaiming who is the GOAT. Mang0 is the GOAT because it is self-proclaimed rofl, "you cant do it like me". The highest level of melee I've seen is when Mang0 is peaking, but that's kind of just my opinion. Also I love armada, they are the 2 supreme beings of melee imo.

Anthony B except this was a Fox ditto for two games and then it was Fox Peach.
I understand that this was literally the match everyone had been waiting for since the second Genesis and it was definitely hype and still just might be one of the best sets EVER, but the Evo Grands set this year was absolutely insane. I don't think there's ever been as many moments where the winner of the set could have literally been either player ever.
The Evo Grand Finals were definitely incredible, especially live, however, each player's approach was rather unbairable to watch.

That Fox play by Mango. Holy crap. Incredibly exciting to look at.
Great matches! After Mang0 was sent to loser's bracket, something inside him fired up and pushed him to greatness. I had not seen him play like that in years. Luck was also slightly in his favor too, but Mang0 was pushing the pace in every single match and was looking for the win at all costs, so in a way he crafted it. He played beautifully against Armada in the first set, but I think that playing at such a high-level so long and consistently took a toll on him.
At the same time, it is incredible how consistent Armanda was throughout the whole tournament. He beat everyone he faced convincingly and managed to overcome his loss against a legendary Mang0 and stop his crazy winning streak. His mental toughness is unparalleled. He is great at adapting to the situation, and I think that's what gave him the edge at the end. I think that anybody else would have probably fallen prey to Mang0.
2016 will be a great year for Melee. I can't wait to see more. Congrats to both!

I wish I was there in the venue. Stream was crazy but to see Mang0 play the way he played in person would've been something special especially with the hype in the building. He wanted Genesis 3. He was no buster this time. Side note: Samox was a cameraman.

Greatest set of all time
This is one of the sickest sets I've ever seen, but the Mang0 bias annoyed the hell out of me. I doubt that had Armada been down on FD, the commentators would've been chanting for him to 'Bring it back'. I understand the popularity of Mang0, I really do, I just wish it wasn't so prevalent amongst commentators. Gets real old knowing who you're 'supposed' to be rooting for
It was very clearly a joke and a call-back to their commentary at Genesis 1, where that type of thing was much more common and acceptable back then.
Although i appreciate shout casters sharing their knowledge about the game and the match ups but honestly id really just like to here them talk about the actual gameplay between the players more. Whole stocks went by while they are explaining the different stages of a fox duo
Of course, last set had to be the classic Armada's Peach vs Mango's Fox. Extremely close set, with these two it really comes down to who makes even the smallest mistake. Always epic sets with these two.
I'm more of an Armada fan, so I was hoping he'd meditate and bring it back in the second set.

You know, Armada is truly scary. you look at the matches and you see Mango going crazy, on fire and dominating, and yet.. whenever you look at the stocks below you see an even match. whatever lead Mango got over Armada, Armada just calmly got back at him and even gets a lead for himself in the process.
Like i don't know if it's just me but in this matches you always see Armada on the defense, being pressured and yet the game is always even. i just find that to be so scary and respect worthy lol.
