Great video, Jarrod. I'm personally using the Ryzen 5 2018 model, & compared to the Ryzen 5 2019 model, I am not at all bothered by the performance differences but I do find the slimmer bezels and overall slimmer+lighter body a welcome change specially for those who bring this on the go. Would have preferred they kept the same faux carbon fiber texture on the lid though, but that's just me. 1 question: are the charging bricks the same size & weight for both models?
Yeah not sure of the CPU differences but I think both have the same 560x anyway. The power bricks were the same size/weight/power, I could use them on either machine.
@@JarrodsTech thanks for taking the time to reply, man. Thought the brick was smaller too on the 2019. Another thing if you don't mind: any notable difference between 2018's Dolby Audio vs 2019's Waves Maxx?
I have the 2019 nitro 5, you already know that. But when i first got it, it could game really well without charging no lag spikes or frame drops, now I need it to be plugged in to not lag pls help ;-;
That's weird, you should have always needed to play plugged into AC power for good performance. Gaming on battery power isn't really a thing, batteries simply can't provide enough constant flow of power for good performance. My guess is the battery degraded over time with use and can't output as much to run better, assuming you didn't accidentally enable something like Nvidia battery boost. If you have AC wall power in range, you should always be using it, both for better performance, and to save the battery. The best way to kill the battery is to run through constant discharge/recharge cycles.
i bought the 2019 model with ryzen5, rx560x, 1TBhdd, 256gb SSD for about $551 (INR 39,000). thanks for this video, you helped me making the right choice

hi what do you think about this laptop Gaming Acer Nitro 5 AN515-42-R5LC AMD Ryzen 5 8GB RAM 1TB DD más 128GB SSD por 833.18 dolares , I will use with camtasia, tia portal, rslogix 5000, some virtual machines .
Not sure what CPU/GPU that has, if it's the AMD one not too sure for vms, probably ok, I know an Intel quad core is fine as I've used one for years no issue with multiple vms.
I have a question which should I get? 2019 Nitro 5 / i5-9300h / GTX 1050 (not Ti) / 256ssd 8gb VS. Asus TUF fx705dt / Ryzen 7 3750h / GTX 1650 / 512ssd 8gb
Jarrod'sTech Thanks for answering! I bought the Nitro 5, however do you think I should keep it or change it for the Asus? I’m looking for using it with MATLAB, AUTOCAD, etc.
I guess depends if what you currently have does the job or not, the nitro definitely has a better CPU, so depends if those would benefit from a better GPU at the expense of lower CPU, I have no experience with those software suites so cannot say.
I have the Nitro AN515-54 model with the i5-9300H and GeForce 1650, it does run a tad hot (for my tastes) but I have never had it go above 85c while gaming after doing some maintenance to it. First I noticed an improvement in boot times when I swapped the slot the m.2 drive was in to the empty slot, and upgraded the ram from 8GB to 16GB. I also removed all of the factory applied thermal paste and used some high quality Gelid GC-Extreme, this dropped temps about 2-3c. I ran a handy little free app called Windows10Debloater to remove some of the Windows 10 and Acer installed bloatware. Right now the laptop is idling between 35 to 40c CPU fan is at 1910 and GPU fan is at 1886 and barely audible this is using the Balance power plan and auto fan control. All in all it's a good little laptop for light to medium gaming at 1080p, the one reviewed in the video can do more thanks to the faster CPU and GPU. You can't really go wrong with this laptop it will work fine in all but the latest game titles running max settings, you will have to turn down settings to get playable frame rates, but with the smaller screen it's not as noticeable.
The Nitro is good, but I’m still kinda disappointed that Acer hasn’t decided to have a 17.3” option for the Nitro. Great review and comparison of both, but the upgrade of the 2019 model isn’t something most people will upgrade to if they already own the 2018 model. I would simply upgrade to the 2019 just for the monitor screen brightness since it’s a noticeable improvement over the 2018 model
I'm honestly not sure, I haven't used it before so I don't know anything about it. I also haven't been able to directly compare the 1050 with 1650 yet so that's difficult to say, sorry.
It's seems easy without going into other characteristics, if Acer Nitro 5 2019 can't board with new 144hz technology screens(with much more smallest response time), - then helios prefer
The difference is, 1. The helios has separated dual heat sink design and much better cooling in terms of dissipation , 2. The design is much sleeker, more worthy of the gaming title 3. It's able to keep things a little more cooler thanks to factory undervolt as well.
Hey Jarrod, would you prefer a Lenovo L340 with i5 9th gen instead of the Asus TUF FX505DT? I can't decide because the TUF laptop have a 120hz display and you can do dual channel in it.
It's hard to say, single channel memory with the L340 would be a downside, not sure how that would compare with the AMD CPU in dual channel. Without testing both configs I could only guess.
Man, I hope for those who own the 2018 model that they can still update them to Windows 11 instead of that the intel i7 8th gen is already too old for that. The 2018 model is also the last of it’s kind to have a wide edge screen border where I do feel nostalgic for because the older laptop designs.
Hi, Jarrod can i ask for your opinion? Should i get the lenovo legion y540 with i7, gtx 1650 and 16 gb ram or acer nitro 5 with i7, gtx 1660 ti and 8 gb ram for the same price?
The Nitro 5 will outperform it by quite a lot, the 1660 Ti is around 50% faster than the 1650, it's a big difference. I've compared those here if you're interested: th-cam.com/video/QhRj0F3b-rk/w-d-xo.html You can always upgrade the RAM later, but you can never upgrade the graphics as it's soldered to the motherboard.
My model is nitro 5 AN515-43 , replace operation system from home edition to Pro. Now windows 10 not show full ram capacity how to fix it, i tried many method from youtube guide but still the same.
I’m looking for a laptop with the GTX 1650. I found a 2019 Nitro 5 with an i5 8300h and an Asus TUF Gaming with a Ryzen 5 3550H. Which of these 2 CPUs is better for gaming and video editing?
The i5 is much better. I have a comparison between the i5-8300H and 3750H on the channel and the i5 still wins, so even larger lead against the Ryzen 5.
I bought a 2018 model with i7 and gtx 1060 and I love it. For me this model have better design and you can upgrade hard drive and ram without lost the warranty and this is cool.
hey guys could you help me decide between the ROG GX701 or the Aero 17, I mostly game but im afraid the gx701 might get too hot and a cooling pad might be useless
I have 2018 model with i5-8300h and gtx 1060. The GPU and CPU temps both reach 95 C at max fan speed and the performance drops too. Is it normal for this laptop or do I need to contact my warranty service?
It's on the higher side, could try clean it out in case of any dust, otherwise try undervolting maybe a cooling pad. The last gen model will get pretty hot though unless you increase fan speed.
@@JarrodsTech Thanks for the reply, I actually got the temps under 75 C by replacing the thermal paste. Although the performance doesn't seem to have been affected much. The CPU and GPU usage both hover in 50-70 range in games like AC Odyssey, Watch Dogs 2, Rainbow six siege, GTA 5. The only game I get 99 GPU usage is Witcher 3.
Nyc video.......sir plz make a comparision video of acer nitro 5 2k19 and asus tuf gaming fx505dd (hdd+ssd variant). And will tthe amd variant is good to buy????
Why is my acer nitro 5 laggy i just got it last week? I have the 2018 version Do i need a SSd? And do i need to upgrade the ram? Because it has 4gb of ram
More RAM will definitely help. If you only have 4gb, my guess is it's running in single channel (1x stick), dual channel (2x sticks) will offer a big improvement in terms of frame times, which basically means less dips in performance, here's a video showing that difference: th-cam.com/video/E_aPaj5QkmM/w-d-xo.html an SSD will greatly help with improving load times and just opening apps, but in games once loaded it won't make a difference to game FPS.
Would you recommend the new Nitro 5 or HP Pavilion Gaming? Both hv similar specs Ryzen 7 3750H and GTX1650.Except Nitro has 120Hz display. I would like the one with better build quality and battery.
Never tested HP so honestly can't say, 120Hz will only really be useful with that spec in less demanding games or lower settings, but still an advantage nonetheless, but yeah without testing I can't comment on things like battery and build quality at this time, sorry.
im in the same boat. bought my laptop last year, have no interest in replacing it any time soon, still watch his vids mostly to see how things are going in the laptop world
How much is a 1660 Ti Y540? Both seem a bit expensive but just comes down to how much things in your country cost. That's 41% more money for the Helios, but the 1660 Ti is around 47% faster than the 1650, so could be worth it if you need the extra gaming performance, I've compared the two here which may help: th-cam.com/video/QhRj0F3b-rk/w-d-xo.html
@@JarrodsTech Well the extra 47% performance seems fair to what 41% that is paid. But yeah it still a bit hurt to know that in my country helios 300 is not $1200. But that is my problem :(. Anyway thanks for the explanantion

Great review as always.
Thanks!
the link takes me to a 2019 Nitro 5 with a Quad Core i5 and a 1050 ti, can someone tell me where to get the i7 and 1660 ti Version?
1660 Ti is not sold on Amazon US, so no links.
I bought mine through Best Buy.
Great video as always, keep up the good work.
Also, thumbs up for the Amon Amarth shirt!
Thanks! 🤘
Awesome comparison man, it's very interesting and I enjoyed it very much.

excellent review thanks
Watching this on the old laptop 😕
As long as it still works well and does everything you need then there's nothing wrong with that 😀
The old one is still pretty good
I love Acer products and even your channel is awesome!
Another thing if you don't mind: any notable difference between 2018's Dolby Audio vs 2019's Waves Maxx?

acer nitto 5 2019 gtx 1650 *or* acer nitro 5 2018 gtx 1060? (in gaming test)
Both similar gpus but the 1650 is more modern
But get the 2020 version of acer nitro 5 with a gpu of 1650ti
I have the 2019 version I got mine on my birthday
Same, and then 2020 version came out of nowhere
I got the 2019 1660ti i7 and overclocked the screen to 90hz and it’s great! No problems so far
Nice!
how to overclock?
How do you overclock the refresh rate?
Will you review Acer Nitro 7
I am not sure. I asked for it a few weeks ago but don't think it was available. It's basically just a Nitro 5 with a metal lid from my understanding.
I have the 2019 nitro 5, you already know that. But when i first got it, it could game really well without charging no lag spikes or frame drops, now I need it to be plugged in to not lag pls help ;-;
The best way to kill the battery is to run through constant discharge/recharge cycles.

love the specs but why a 60hz screen in this day and age, should be 144hz as standard now, many thanks for your videos.
my 2018 model has a 144hz screen
I think 144Hz is an option in some regions, this is just what I had.
You can over clock the screen to 90Hz in base models, while the higher end models with 1650 comes with 144hz display in my region
@@normaldude6699 I have the 2019 1650 can overclock to 95 hz only no 144hz :(

Should i buy a
2019 r5 3550h, amd rx 560x
or
2018 i5 8300h, gtx 1050ti
Is the 2018 screen dim or considerable.
I'll use it for some school works and some games like Lol, pubg, etc.
They are both the same price in my area
8300h and 1050 Ti will win by a fair amount. Not sure on the screen to be honest, can't recall if they used different panels with that model.
For reference, even an i5-8300H beats the better 3750H, and a 560X is closer to 1050, so 1050 Ti wins there too.

hi what do you think about this laptop Gaming Acer Nitro 5 AN515-42-R5LC AMD Ryzen 5 8GB RAM 1TB DD más 128GB SSD por 833.18 dolares , I will use with camtasia, tia portal, rslogix 5000, some virtual machines .
I've never compared the 1050 and 1650, but I suspect the 1650 will come out ahead, but the Intel CPU in the Nitro will smash the Ryzen 7.
Jarrod'sTech Thanks for answering! I bought the Nitro 5, however do you think I should keep it or change it for the Asus? I’m looking for using it with MATLAB, AUTOCAD, etc.
Overall which is the most worth it between those two? The price is very similar around the $700 U.S.
Thanks, yeah hard to upgrade but if buying today the 2019 is so much nicer.
@@JarrodsTech If I didn't own the 2018 Nitro 5 model, I would definitely get the 2019 model if the Nitro was still a laptop I was aiming for.
Well there is a 17.3 inch option for it now, so that’s good news for Nitro 5 fans.
Hi Jarrod, hopefully you reply.
Is the ps63 any good in comparison to other msi laptops ? If so is the gtx1050 good enough compared to gtx1650.
I'm honestly not sure, I haven't used it before so I don't know anything about it. I also haven't been able to directly compare the 1050 with 1650 yet so that's difficult to say, sorry.
The 2019 nitro 5 1660ti and helios 300 2019 1660ti are alike whats the difference? And which would you prefer?
That's the next comparison video 😉
Helios 300 is lit ....but price is somehow more .......but design of Helios 300 is more good
It's seems easy
without going into other characteristics, if Acer Nitro 5 2019 can't board with new 144hz technology screens(with much more smallest response time), - then helios prefer
The difference is,
1. The helios has separated dual heat sink design and much better cooling in terms of dissipation ,
2. The design is much sleeker, more worthy of the gaming title
Can’t wait till I get my 2019 one
what do u think about Nitro 5 AN515-54-73SS (actually on CPU TEMP) ?? and what kinda cool pad do u suggest for this model ?
I bought acer nitro 5 4mounth ago but I didn't get nitro sense software in it :( how can I get it?please help me:(
Search for your serial number here: www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/support there will be downloads for it there including that software.
Man, I hope for those who own the 2018 model that they can still update them to Windows 11 instead of that the intel i7 8th gen is already too old for that. The 2018 model is also the last of it’s kind to have a wide edge screen border where I do feel nostalgic for because the older laptop designs.
Dell G3 or Acer Nitro 5? Which one will you choose? Im confuse in choosing this too.. I am using it for beginner video editing..
Nitro 5 has higher CPU power limit and better fan control so will perform better
I want to get the new one but I can't find the 1660 ti online. Someone got a link?
Depends where you live, in the US for instance I don't think they sell it with that one.
They only have the 1050ti I believe. But I got mine with the 12gb ram. I love it so far
I ordered the 2018 version. I couldn’t find the 2019 at a better price. But hopefully made the right choice here. I’m hoping to run shenmue 3
Cool hope it goes well
can u do the 2019 vs the 2020 one? the 2020 one looks amazing with dif design and better keyboard
I've compared those here if you're interested: th-cam.com/video/QhRj0F3b-rk/w-d-xo.html
You can always upgrade the RAM later, but you can never upgrade the graphics as it's soldered to the motherboard.
Aren't acer nitro 5 and predator helios 300 2018 have same built and design?
Nice, good to hear!
hey guys could you help me decide between the ROG GX701 or the Aero 17, I mostly game but im afraid the gx701 might get too hot and a cooling pad might be useless
GX701 will probably perform better due to G-Sync, but I haven't compared both with same specs to say for sure.
Is it true that i should buy cooling pad when i use this? I heard some heating issues about this laptop should i buy it?
It can help, I show more results with a cooling pad in the full review linked in the description. Definitely not necessary.
I might compare them in future, there are lots of comparisons on the way.
This video really cemented why the 1660 is objectively much MUCH better than the 1060.
Why is my acer nitro 5 laggy i just got it last week? I have the 2018 version
Do i need a SSd?
And do i need to upgrade the ram? Because it has 4gb of ram
More RAM will definitely help. If you only have 4gb, my guess is it's running in single channel (1x stick), dual channel (2x sticks) will offer a big improvement in terms of frame times, which basically means less dips in performance, here's a video showing that difference: th-cam.com/video/E_aPaj5QkmM/w-d-xo.html an SSD will greatly help with improving load times and just opening apps, but in games once loaded it won't make a difference to game FPS.
Is the all AMD version worth getting for the 2019 model? It's the only version that's available on my country :/
Depends on the price, the 560x is close to a 1050 so you'll need low-med settings for modern higher demanding games.
@@JarrodsTech 560x actually out performs 1050.
2018 model had better looking back panel.
Is there any major heating issue?
Also should consider this over Asus TUF?
Which one would u suggest bro the older one or the new one I'm about to buy a new laptop on coming August
Do you move your hand when you say all these other things behind the camera?????
Yes, it would feel extremely strange to try and talk sitting perfectly still.
Yup.

Helios 300 is 1200. Unless maybe you're not from US and those are not US dollars. Makes a difference in how much more 500 really is.
@@creaturecore13 Well yeah, in my country helios 300 cost around $1700 and that sucks
